AAA travel said if I bought the Disney insurance (I always do) and was turned away at the gate with Covid, I would be covered by Disney insurance for food and hotels because my trip was “interrupted.”
I was thinking that because I never got on the ship it would not be covered.
Anybody able to attest to the AAA declaration? Doesn’t pass the common sense test for me.
Also she said, I would not be able to rent a car to drive home if we had Covid. But since we are all 3x vaccinated and symptoms could be most likely, mild or asymptomatic. Would that be a thing also? We would like to ride out the 10-14 days at home if possible. With 5 drivers going until we got home.

I would ask them to show me where in the policy that is. Travel agents are notorious for not understanding travel insurance. You can get searchable pdf here.

She said I should call Disney, but this was her understanding. Although I figured this was discussed here, but I just wasn’t finding the right thread. Didn’t want to waste DCL phones/time on what someone here made a thread for already asked and answered question. I’m going to hold out for a few hours before I call. They have enough to do without me bugging them. Maybe someone gets off work later that knows the answers.

But from the first bullet, it seems like yes?? Upto $10,000???

If you scroll down the page and choose the state you live in it will open a pdf policy for that state.

I think you are referring to the first item under “other covered events” that contains “quarantine.” I think the challenge would be proving you were in face placed under quarantine. DCL does not quarantine you when they deny boarding, they just send you on your way. So it would be up to Florida to quarantine you—I can’t tell if there is mandatory quarantine in Florida or if it is just recommended/voluntary self-quarantine. Maybe some of the Floridians here can answer that.

Pre-covid my husband got noro on the ship and was quarantined by DCL. Doctor told him to quarantine and the ship staff called him periodically to make sure he wasn’t leaving the room. Still, when we got back, we submitted the claim under DCL insurance and showed all the paperwork we got from the ship’s doctor, and our claim was denied because we could only prove based on the paperwork that he was sick with gastrointestinal illness, not that he was actually quarantined. Which makes me skeptical insurance would pay out in the scenario described as you would need to prove not only a positive test, but thay you were quarantined.

My understanding is the DCL-offered insurance offers what DCL considered to be mandatory when they first restarted cruising (and required insurance coverage for anyone unvaccinated). How that translates to covering essentially "trip interruption" for being denied embarkation -- questionable. DCL-offered insurance only covers those parts of your trip that are purchased from DCL, which for most of us is just the cruise itself and maybe transfers. I don't see that coverage extending to hotel and/or transportation if you never set foot on the ship; from their standpoint your trip was cancelled and you were made whole by the cruiseline refund. Personally, I'd be looking into third-party coverage where you can more easily tailor the plan to fit what you want.

That’s how I figured they would see it. You never set foot on the ship, so you never took a trip, so the insurance is not available to us.
I also believe that that if that actually happened to one of our DISboard members here we would’ve already heard about the fact that they were denied because of Covid and were put up in X hotel.
So that’s why I called AAA to try and purchase that type of insurance which she was trying to talk me out of purchasing because I already had it.

Regarding the bolded, if you're not able to rent a car if you have COVID, are you going to lie about it when they ask you? The point is - they don't want the germs in the vehicle.

I think [but am not certain] it might be covered under the "TRIP DELAY" portion of DCL's Vacation Protection Plan if you have to go into quarantine [depends on state of FL rules and ability to get documentation to prove it]:

I chose the option here https://www.archinsurancesolutions.com/coverage/disney/cruise of For Vacation Protection Purchases on/after May 17, 2021: and "other" ; coverage may be different for your date/state, so check.

Also:

“Travel Arrangement(s)” means: (a) transportation; (b) accommodations; and (c) other specified services arranged by
Your Travel Supplier for Your Trip.

“Travel Supplier” means Disney Cruise Line.

So does that mean:

If you arrange your ground transfers from airport to port through DCL + the cruise, then your "travel arrangements" start when you board the ground transfer bus and therefore trip interruptuon and delay coverage starts then ??

If you get to the port on your own does trip interruption and delay coverage only begin when you "depart" on the cruise, and when does "depart" officially start ? when you check in at the port ? when you board the ship ? Is the testing at the port considered "other specified services arranged by your travel supplier for your trip" and therefore a travel arrangement and therefore once it starts you are considered to have "departed" ?

All questions for DCL to answer.

Personally, though we get DCL coverage for the CFAR coverage, we get a separate policy to cover emergency medical, trip cancelation and trip interruption as DCL's is IMO inadequate for those purposes.

If you test positive, you are contagious and can infect others. That is all that matters.

Better a rental car than an uber/taxi though. They can’t exactly camp out at the port or walk home—they have to go somewhere!
My understanding is cruise lines have protocols for transporting people who test positive and quarantining them.

DCL provides transportation to Orlando - my understanding is it can be wherever you choose: airport, hotel or other. They do not provide transport home nor do they cover quarantine costs.

I believe another adult in the party can rent the vehicle as long as the exposure is disclosed when returning it so the vehicle can be appropriately aired/cleaned.

Ah, that is different than other lines then.

I would strongly recommend private travel insurance. Covers a lot more than Disney and we've had excellent responses for questions, changes and cover when we had a cancelled flight and had to book a new flight on a different airlines last minutes (at substantially more) to make our cruise. All additional expenses were covered without questions! We use private travel insurance through our USAA membership.

We are coming from 4 different houses so I figured eventually the others could get it 3 days later or because of 3x shots maybe not at all.

Since the five of us are coming from four different households I’m sure one or more of us will be able to do that. That’s the plan that seems both frugal and safest for my 70’s+ parents to be near their doctor's the quickest. Even is they are not the ones that have it.

I’m disappointed but not surprised that you infer that I would choose to lie. Why would you ask that?

4 households will come together for this trip of 5 adults. Chances are there could be A positive in the group. But since we would use contactless car rental and surface Covid can usually be addressed with time and cleaning. We plan to follow what Disney recommends/offers should that become a problem.

Anybody interested….
One rental place ask that you hold on to a car and return it after 10 days from onset of Covid. “You should call and tell them where the car will be parked.”
