Can someone please explain Disney Infinity to me? I know it is a video game for Wii, Xbox, etc. But what is the game ... what is the objective ... what is the storybook vs. the toybox? What are the figures and the power discs for?

It seems like it can get pretty expensive if you have to keep buying figures, etc.

Also, we would get the version for Wii. Experiences with this version??? I read somewhere only one person can play - does this make a huge difference?

Thanks.

I'll take a shot at explaining it. We bought it for our 5 year old. Toybox mode is an open mode where they can build anything they want (or have unlocked) using the build mode, similar to taking toys out of a toybox and stacking them or building anything with it. Anything in the toybox can be used together, whether it is from a different "story" or not. The other mode uses the world icons to play. The starter set comes with three worlds plus toybox. The incredibles world, pirates world, and monsters University world. As it sounds those are three different worlds to play in and unlock items. The unlocked items become available in the toybox and can be used there as well, either in the prebuilt world or in one that they build themselves.

As far as ages, who knows? I got a kick out of playing it a few times and could probably spend some major time setting up some incredible feats in the toybox section, but busy being a dad and can't play all day due to jobs and other responsibilities.

As to expensive, yes, it can be. Doesn't have to be, but the other figures make it possible to unlock other items. It is a money pit, just like Skylanders.

As for the Wii version, we thought about it, but the initial reviews were so poor, we opted to buy a used xbox 360 and the xbox360 starter set. Looks and plays great on that.

Here is the Disney Infinity youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/disneyinfinity

It has more videos and probably does a better job explaining it than I can. Even has how to videos for making new creations in the toybox.

Just picked it up at WalMart for $37. That was the starter pack and then I bought 2 additional "players". For $37 it's worth it for Christmas...IMO pixiedust:

Has anyone had issues with on of your power discs not working?

I haven't had issues with the power discs, but in our starter set, mr incredible was never recognized by the base. Then, two days after Christmas, the game froze. After restarting, the xbox could no longer read the disc......no matter what I did. So we exchanged the game for a new one, and all is well so far.

Before the game froze, I had contacted Disney infinity support and asked them if they could do an exchange for mr. Incredible. I heard back a few days later that they would do something for me. So if you have a disc that isn't working and you can't exchange it locally, contact Disney infinity right off their website and ask about replacement. It's worth a shot.

Got the Infinity for Christmas and has frozen a few times already! Wondering if it was the Xbox or the game. Maybe I need to bring it back for a new infinity starter set.

We've got everything for it (my fiance decided he needed it all... :rolleyes2)

Never had an issue with power disks (outside of a little lag time while switching them) or characters. I love playing the playset levels, but the toybox mode is lost on me. I don't have the time or dedication to make something cool.

Also, someone on these boards clued me in to an AWESOME easter egg for anyone who has the game and a magicband. You unlock something (I'm not going to spoil it!) if you put your magicband on the play set in toy box mode!

Ours only froze once. Tried to start the game, it would say the disc was unreadable, needed cleaned. Even after cleaning, it still wouldn't load. All other xbox games worked just fine. That's how we knew we just needed a new starter set.

The second day we played Infinity when we started the XBOX it said there was an update that needed to download and install. We have not had any issues with freezing, so make sure that your Xbox has is connected and can download the update.

We're soon to be on our third starter set for the Xbox 360. Our first one we played with twice and then the disc was unreadable and the second one doesn't even start, I'm about to lose my mind with this game, and I added three additional players so I can no longer return the entire thing or I'll be out additional money with the extra pieces, so off to Target I go again to try to return it and see if the third's time the charm.
