We have planned to go to Disney next summer. I have just recently found out that I am pregnant and due in April. This means taking a baby between 2-4 months old the hottest time of the year. Has anyone done this? Will we be completely insane to do it? If you've done it, do you have any tips/suggestions. Our other option is to wait and go the last week of December. I'm a little afraid of the crowds at that time of year.

I personally wouldn't want to travel anywhere with a two-month old, but some people do it. I would reschedule my trip for the following year, when it would be easier on both me and the baby. But that's just me.

You may change your mind about going *after* the baby comes, and still have time to re-arrange your plans.

We go every Aug. for the past 5 years. Honestly I would be worried about a 2-4 month old in that heat. Even for adults its intense and you have to drink a lot in order to not get dehydrated. An infant can get dehydrated a lot faster than an adult. My daughter was 7 our first year and we though she was drinking enough but by the end of our first day she was so sick and vomiting from heat and dehydration. we ended up in the e,ergency room. She was fine after a couple hours but it was scary. As disappointing as it is, if I were you and can wait I think I would wait.

I am a travel loving mom, but it ticks me off to see a baby that young (2 months) at an amusement park in the heat of summer. They are not having a good time, I can promise you that. I have taken both my kids at 13 months and they both had fun, but needed naps and quiet cool places much more often than the adults did. I used feeding times to visit the Baby Center and cool off. I would not take a baby less than 10 to 12 months.

Now, that I have been all negative, let me just say that Thanksgiving is a great and much cooler time of the year to go. The baby would be 8 months then. The place is decorated for Christmas with lots of pretty lights...

There's actually some of us that live here in this heat that have babies! LOL!
My middle daughter was 4weeks when we took her and it was probably the easiest she's ever been. As long as you take it easy and hydrate and don't have high expectations of seeing it all you'll be fine. Good luck!

Oh I just now read that post....ticks you off? What if they were at a local playground in fl? Geez....the baby would not be "having a good time" anywhere. And actually up north is having a hotter summer than us this year.....the mornings here have been around 76 lately.

We took DD to a family vacation at Cedar Point and then drove to OBX at 2 months (it was August). It was just ok and we stayed in a house both times. Then when she was 5 months we went to Universal for a week. HUGE difference. It was Nov, those 2 -3 months have so many changes, including she could sit much better.

If you do not have to go in summer then wait until fall if possible. Just my 2 cents...

I would not take an infant that young during the Summer. Our "rule" is 6 mo and that is off season.
The week after Christmas is insane busy but it would at least be a safer choice for your baby. Could you adjust the times and choose Mid-January? Cool and low crowds.

Last August I saw quite a few couples carrying around small babies at WDW wearing only their diaper. No onesie, no creeper, just a diaper. Not only did it seem unhygienic (especially at the restaurant table) , I was worried for those babies out in the heat not knowing if they were hydrated or had sunscreen or whatever. Just didin't seem like a good idea.

We took my daughter (and 2 sons 17 and 11) over 4th of July this year. She was 6 months old. What we did was go as early in the morning as we could and stayed until about lunch and went back to the hotel. It was hot but we didn't just stand outside in the heat the whole time! I can assure you my little girl had a wonderful time and I'm so happy we took her. Definitely use the baby care centers and expect to go much slower than you are used to.

We went in July with our not quite 4 month old. I'm a teacher so the times we can go are limited. We had a great trip.

I was not worried about much of anything in the time leading up to the trip except the heat and it turned out not to be a huge deal.

We got to the parks generally around 11 AM after she woke up and ate and left around 6-7. We only spent 3 days in the parks. 1 in Epcot and 2 in MK. I would not hesitate to do it again!

In the morning we put a little sunscreen on her legs and arms (I know it's not recommended until 6 months, but we picked the safest block we could find and I'd rather have her use sunblock than get a burn and pedi ok'd it) and she wore a hat and sunglasses. We kept her in the stroller when it was especially sunny and had a fan going on her. We mostly carried her around in a Beco and she did great!

There's a ton of places to get out of the heat and sun. We spent almost 2 hours in the aquarium in Epcot, riding Nemo and watching the fish.

Just make sure you offer to feed the baby more often and keep yourself hydrated if you're breastfeeding.

We used the baby care center in MK, but I also fed her on the TTC, in Philharmagic and Hall of Presidents.

As long as you're willing to take it at the baby's pace and not go commando, you'll be fine. I think we rode maybe 10 rides the whole time we were there, but we had a blast taking our daughter. She did enjoy it! She liked the characters, especially the princesses, and the parade.

I'd be happy to answer any questions.
