Disney in September

We’ve gone twice in September & have another trip planned for this year. It is definitely HOT. But, this forces us to take breaks & enjoy the pools. We seem to eat less too. Lol. In my experience, it’s cheaper, less crowded & hasn’t been ‘rainy.’ We’ve also gone in early December & mid-February. September has the ‘worst’ weather, as far as heat, but we love the price & crowd levels. Last September we arrived just a few days after the hurricane & it was unusually quiet, so I assume a lot of people had re-scheduled their trip. But it was nice!

September is my favorite time to go. Four of our last trips have been shortly after Labor Day. The crowds seem less and we've only had a few passing showers, no major rain days. I also love that MK is already decorated for fall. We live with humidity, so it didn't really affect my family.

Also, if you have any plans to visit a beach, Clearwater Beach was 86 degrees when we were there. The water felt so nice!

It can be hot in September, but the crowds though are generally very low and if you can brave rainy weather...you're gonna have a good time. We splurged on expensive Disney plastic rain ponchos and kept cheap flip flops with us at all times, that way when the downpours would start, we'd put our dry shoes and socks in the backpack and use the flip flops that way we could move about the parks and ride rides while everyone else chickened out. I remember we were able to walk on at Test Track, Space Mountain, and a few others while people left the parks.

Halloween/Fall/F&W time at Disney is fun (not as good as Disneyland decorations, but still fun to look at.)

We always go in September. It's hot and humid and it rains a lot. We live in Houston so last year we went through Harvey right before our trip to WDW and....... ran smack into Irma. Yay, two hurricanes. We were locked down to the resort for 2 days but added days onto the end and it was the. best. trip. ever. Lots of activities and characters at the resort, plenty of food and drinks. It was awesome. Not to mention the parks were ghost towns before and after the storm. GO!! You can deal with whatever weather there is.

We have visited Disneyworld 3 times same dates in September 2010, 2014 and 2017 during Irma. It was crazy hot, crazy busy and we will not return for September again. That being said... It's Disney and you will find your magic! Pool time, dinning time and lots of air conditioning. Some people love the heat perhaps that's you. It will be wonderful. There is no wrong time to visit. Disneyworld is busy all year round do not listen to the hype about the best time to go. Just go! Enjoy!

We've been there four times during the last week of September . It has always been hot and humid. The last time was overkill! It's way too humid! Our shirts had "salt marks"! It was unreal! We were soaked by the time we got to the bus! The afternoon thunderstorms blocked us from using the resort pools to cool off. ( they measure the lightening strikes within a certain number of miles and restrain guests from using the pool until it moves away a certain distance). So, we were only able to use the pools twice in seven days. So disappointing. The humidity drained the energy out of us. We made the best of the trip. But, from now on we go when the weather isn't so humid. It seems to have gotten worse over the years. If September is your choice, in your park bag remember to pack some washcloths in a baggie to cool down( frogtogs didn't work and felt like a burden around our necks), wear hats, wear sunscreen & lipscreen, and carry little cordless fans with rechargeable batteries. These all helped to ease the pain. Don't forget to stay hydrated. We carried refillable bottles and got cups of ice water at quick service restaurants. I hope you have a nice trip.

We really enjoyed our September 2010 and September 2016 trips. We are going again this September. Can't wait!

I’m also going in September for the first time and I’m definitely nervous about rain and the possibility of a hurricane! We only have 3 full days and I don’t want to lose any time due to weather! I’ve had great luck with weather on all of our May/June trips and one August trip with torrential downpours of rain all day. We lost 3 of our 6 days that trip, it was miserable!

We went the last 2 Septembers. Sept 2016 was one of best trips we have had - we went Labor Day week, it barely rained, it wasn't crazy hot/humid, crowds were wonderful and so low! Sept 2017 was a whole different experience - we went the same week, it rained a lot more, the heat was BRUTAL! F&W started earlier than normal, so it felt more crowded in Epcot at least... and we had to cut our trip 3 days short because of the hurricane. Our flight home was cancelled and we had to rent a car and drive 19 hours home. We were so disappointed. We decided not to do Sept this year because of that.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've been to WDW plenty of times in September, both as a CM and numerous trips as it's my favourite time of year to visit. I like it because it's still hot without it being as bad as in the middle of summer and you can go to MNSSHP and F&W if you'd like. Also the crowds aren't too bad and I've always been lucky with the weather while I've been there. If it rains, it's usually an afternoon shower and it soon clears up again. While there's been several threats of hurricanes while I've been there, and even though some of them were heading straight towards Orlando, a lot of them changes routes and don't actually hit. The ones who still comes nearby very rarely hit WDW directly and all you get is a little bit of wind and rain as the hurricanes tends lose a lot of their force once they hit the mainland. If worse comes to worse, then Disney has their CM's trained in how to handle a hurricane, so as another poster said, as long as you follow their instructions, you'll be fine.

We went for the first time in September in 2016. We knew it would be hot BUT nothing like what we experienced. Woke up every morning at 6am to head to the parks, to walk outside and it felt like being slapped in the face with a steamy hot wash cloth. It is a heavy heat if that makes any sense. Tons of humidity just weighing you down. With that being said it was practically low crowds when we visited (or maybe the heat was giving us mirages ). But I do remember low wait times such as POTC having a 20 minute wait most times. And even 45 for PP. We did not feel crowded by people at all. With those hopes that the trend continues into this year and we have planned a September trip again. At first we swore off September due the heat, but we have come to the conclusion that we were not prepared for that magnitude of heat. We know what to expect this go round. Afternoon showers are a given maybe even one full day of rain just depending on the hurricane chances. And lets face it a rainy, hot, swampy day at Disney is still a day at Disney in our books!!!!!

I know what you mean! We’re only there 2 full days. I’m starting to regret planning this trip in September. But I guess we just pray we have good weather!

I love going in September, but we prepare for the heat and afternoon showers. We typically rope drop to get a lot accomplished before the afternoon heat and crowds. We all wear wick-away clothing, Frogg Togg chilly pad towels (cut in half) and no cotton socks. We aren't hat wearers typically, but we are at Disney. We have all discovered how much more comfortable it is to keep the sun off our faces. We bring disposable ponchos to use during the brief afternoon downpours. We plan afternoon TS lunches and/or build in indoor shows for a break from the heat. When doing full days at MK, we sometimes in the afternoon will take the monorail to a monorail resort for drinks/snacks as an easy, enjoyable break from the heat.

It's hot. And humid. It's humid and hot. And it'll rain, but usually only for short, intense bursts. It was undoable, but just make sure you're dressed appropriately and that you drink plenty of water throughout the day. Ice water is free at QS restaurants, you just have to go ask. I also booked meals inside for the hottest part of the day between 3 and 5 pm. It's amazing how just a little bit of time out of the sun can help it not to feel so terrible. We still had a great time, but you have to make sure to seize the day when it's cooler in the morning and evening, then take it easy during the afternoon. I would go in September again for sure -- we're going at the end of August this year and I'm not very concerned about the heat at all.

This year will be our first September trip. Not worried about the weather. After bundling up and freezing our butts off MLK weekend we are happy to know we don't need layers. We are from south Louisiana, though so the weather won't surprise us at all.

We are from south Louisiana, though so the weather won't surprise us at all.

You know the drill: 75+ degree dewpoints and mid 90's = heat indexes in the 120's. I think it's the combination that surprises most people who haven't been here (Central Florida) in the summer before. Problem is that in dry climates, the body's natural cooling system actually works well due to evaporation. When the dewpoint is in the mid 70's, not so much. And that sun. I don't much care for the weather in September, but since I'm going to have to deal with it here anyway, I may as well be in Disney "dealing" with it. I'll be there in Sept this year.

We recently returned from a trip this April where rained one evening of our stay. We entered MK at 3pm with a 4pm rezzie at Diamond Horseshoe. Had 3 FP booked. After dinner it started raining while we were using our Splash Mountain FP. We had our ponchos on. The park emptied out due to the rain. We then went to Big Thunder and was able to ride 2 times in a row without getting off the train in the rain! What a thrilling experience. After that we went around the park riding everything including rides never done before including Pooh. We rode every single ride in the park and some more than once. Rode 7 Drarwes 2 times in a row during the fireworks (the rain had stopped by then). First time with 5 minute wait, 2nd time was walk on. The firwroks from that area of the park were incredible! So much fun to experience it on the ride. Something I will never forget. i can honestly say the most fun I have ever had at Disney! If you don't mind getting a little wet, it's worth it to stay in the parks while it rains. We have now booked a trip in September and I hope it rains!
