I'm trying to plan our trip to Disney in July, we've been to Disney many times but never in the summer months..The dates are 2nd to the 9th. This trip it will just be myself and my two sons ages 12 and 15. Looking to stay at a mod, we've stayed at CBR in the past and are thinking of trying a different resort. Is there anything I should be aware of being there over the July 4th holiday? Any suggestions on particular things to do or avoid?

Agree with auroraborealis. You do NOT want to be in either of these parks on July 4. I'd recommend maybe Epcot on the 3rd and AK on the 4th. And plan some down time at your resort for the afternoons, when the heat and crowds will be at their worst.

See, I disagree. We've been twice over July 4th. We spend the mornings in the parks, then head back to the resort for rest and fun by the pool. One year we watched fireworks at DHS, and the other year we stayed at CR and watched the MK fireworks from there. We do this on the 3rd and the 4th. Had a blast.

I'll be arriving on the 4th and I plan on getting right over to MK in hopes of seeing their fireworks. It'll be my first time being there on the 4th and everything I read says if you only see one 4th fireworks show, see MK. I'm just managing expectations for the day. I have an ADR to assure myself a meal without having to wait TOOOO long. I'll hopefully be able to score a few good fast passes to assure I'll get on a couple attractions that day. Then I kind of plan to enjoy what I can and find a good spot to view the fireworks. It will likely be crowded, but worth it if something like that interests you.

We were at WDW July 4th week in 2013. We went back to the room midday every day to swim and take a break from the heat/crowds. We normally aren't "afternoon break" people, but we had to in the summer.

We got A LOT of ran during the trip. It was more than the typical summer showers. That helped with the heat/crowds. So I'd definitely be prepared for rain. You will, at the very least, get the daily summer shower.

For the 4th, we went swimming in the morning. Early afternoon we went to AK and stayed until it closed, then jumped on a bus to Epcot to catch the fireworks. We were able to grab a spot in the grassy area across from the Imagination pavilion. It was crowded, but not too bad, and not as bad as being around the lagoon.

I'd definitely consider doing the water parks. My oldest son, 10yo at the time, loved them. It was the first time we went to them.

One evening, we left our younger kids with grandma, and headed back out to MK around 10pm with our oldest DS for the super late EMH. We had a great time!

I suggest Coronado and doing lots of eating and pooling...the best way to beat peak summer crowds is to be in the park with them as little as possible ;)

MK and Epcot are a madhouse both the 3rd and 4th. Consider resort days.

I disagree! Do Epcot on the 4th, the Magic Kingdom on the 3rd. Both have awesome fireworks shows! The parks will be crazy busy, but it is still fun if you know that going in.

My boys just said to me "Ma we must see the fireworks at MK on the 4th" if they are up for it I guess we will do it!

I agree with Maxie's Mom!

Make sure you book dining well in advance bc the restaurants will be full, and the transportation will be CRAZY. But the fireworks are so awesome, and it's really really fun. You just have to plan for the crowds!

I definitely plan on going to the water parks... I think I need to make decisions on what resort to stay at this time around.

We have a few restaurants we visit every trip, I'm trying to also decide if I want to get the dining plan or not....Decisions Decisions

The fireworks at MK are the same on the 3rd and the 4th. They are much less crowded on the 3rd, at least in my past experience. Also, for the age of your kids I would suggest CSR. My 13 year old insists the water slide is one of the best at Disney. It is long and quite fast!

I think CSR might be our resort this year, my 12 year old mentioned he wanted to stay there after looking at pictures and seeing the pool. Is business class really that much better than other locations on this resort?

I have never stayed in business class at CSR. I think it is the only MOD with that option. Just wanted to add The Dig Site at CSR is perfect for your situation. The pool and water slide are excellent. There is an arcade right by the pool, you can get food and drinks right there. When I am alone with my son I find a good spot where I can see him and keep tabs on him but he has plenty of freedom to wander around the Dig Site and feel independent.
