We are taking our first EVER trip in December and I was wondering what we should pack. Should I take our heavy winter jackets?

I was thinking of packing layers for the kiddies, sweats with t-shirts and sweatshirts or a hoodie - this way if it warms up I can remove the sweatshirts....

Any advice would be much appreciated..... :goodvibes

Thanks!

I was going to pack for layers too...from other posts I have read that MVMCP can be very cold. :wizard:
And forgive me for asking, who is Figment? I have seen him in other photos. How is he tied with Disney? :confused3

I think it depends, in 2004 we were in hoodies, last year we were in heavier jackets. This year, I'm hoping for hoodies again.

We are going December 5 thru 12th and that is exactly my plan - layers! We have gone several times in December & January and found the weather to be unpredictable. We have had shorts on during the day and sweatshirts on at night. It gets particularly cool in the evenings.

We went last year the second week in December, and are going back the same week this year. We had our heavier jackets with us, because we were coming from up north. I think we used them almost every single night. One night I remember having my kids wear their hats and gloves while waiting for Illuminations, it was that cold. During the day we did o.k. with long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts, but at night we definetely needed the jackets. In the mornings we usually just had light jackets or sweatshirts that we could take of as it got warmer, and then we would come back to our room every day for a break, but when we went out for dinner at night we would get the heavier jackets. Last year I packed a little of everything, and we never got to wear a lot of the lighter clothes. This year, I am planning on bringing mostly warmer clothes, with just a couple of t-shirts. It's a tricky time of year to pack for. :)

Who is Figment !?!?!?!?!? (I'm tempted to say "blasphemer"!) -- He's the spirit of Imagination -- Journey into your Imagination with Figment, in Epcot -- loved to see the OPs photo with him. We were delighted to see him out again on our May trip -- he'd been missing too long

Last Dec. we didn't need heavy coats, but one night I needed more layering than I had -- mostly hoodies were fine. It's hard to predict. If you're staying onsite and going for late EMH, you might want heavier coats (but not sure if you need an NJ heavy coat -- different than an NC heavy coat!).

Oops -- sorry, I see that you're coming up on your first trip to WDW, so of course you don't know who Figment is -- look for him up by "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" after you do JIYIWF in Epcot -- figment of imagination. That's the only place he is for Disney, unfortunately -- I think the idea would make a great TV show, mabye with Bill Nye the Science Guy on Disney Channel.
Sorry.
Please ask to see him.
And use PhotoPass a lot. Enjoy your first trip (of course you will).

Once you go to EPCOT and go on the ride featuring Figment, you will never get that song out of your mind. My son was singing it for days. :teeth: It's a cute ride and afterwards they have some great interactive activities mostly for kids.

I agree with layers! We went in Dec. 2003 and we started the day in light jackets over sweatshirts and T-shirts. By the afternoon we were usually down to the T-shirts. In the evening, all of the layers were back on. We usually wore jeans or capri pants. My husband wore shorts on two days, but my DDs and I did not. I am planning to pack the same way again this time. Since we will be coming from PA, I will bring heavier jackets on the plane that we will have just in case it gets really cold.

We are trying to pack basically for spring or fall but I am packing some shorts and some sweats. I did purchase for the girls a light weight quilted coat and I also got small knit gloves and ear bands. DH and I also have same stuff for our selves. DH likes to tough it out though, he is a guy after all and they don't need sissy stuff. Well, when his ears are cold at the MCMCP parade, he'll thank me for finding some for him too. And I'll get the last laugh. Hoping to not need any of it, but I am prepared just in case. But we have a car to, so we will find a Target or Walmart if necessary.

You really can't plan your clothing for a December visit until just days before your visit. We were at WDW over Christmas last year and it was COLD!!! At night, we wore heavy winter clothing, including down-filled jackets, mittens, hats, and scarves. Most everyone around us was wearing the same. Mornings were also quite chilly. Afternoons often were warm enough for a light sweater and jeans. The week before our trip, the Orlando weather was warm enough for shorts and swimming!! The week after, it was warm enough for jeans and tee shirts during the day and hoodies at night. Definitely take clothes you can layer and don't feel funny about packing a winter coat with your bathing suit!

Thank you to those who explained who he was. We will definately check him out in Epcot. And I sure hope the weather will be kind so my little ones can enjoy some swimming in December!

We're going in December as well, and only packinf for about two layers. Wear light in the day and heavier at night- make sure if you get cold easily you bring extra blankets!
