Disney in December (MVMCP benefits)

I saw the thread on all those going in December, but I had a couple of specific questions about vacationing this time of year.

I am considering making our next visit in early December, assuming that the crowds will be very light and the decorations will be really cool.

Given that these two benefits are there for the general park goers, is it worth the extra cost to do MVMCP? Am I off base in assuming that the lines will be pretty non-existant in the first two weeks of December? Is the MVMCP really more for the extra festivities/parades than it is for the ease of getting on rides?

When we go (12/04) we'll have a 7, 6 and 3 1/2 year old.

Also, any reports on the typical weather this time of year?

TIA!

Hi Drew:

When I went to MVMCP in December of 2001 I found it to be extremely crowded. During the day there were no lines and no crowds to squeeze through. At MVMCP we did not try to go on the rides so I can't tell you how the lines were. We did go for the festivities, the parade, and the shows. However, it was very difficult getting around and getting it all done in one night.

I am returning to Disney this December and we will not be doing MVMCP.

I don't want to totally discourage you. The snow on Main Street was great. The parade was great. The "Twas the Night Before Christmas" show was great, too!!

Being that you have never been to MVMCP before, this might be something that you might want to consider. Hopefully, the crowds will be light and you will be able to enjoy this more than we did. However, this is something that we did once and this trip we are going to try something different.

Keep reading the boards and getting all the opinions you can. I bet this will get a variety of opinions!

Don't miss the Osborn Lights at MGM!!

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do!

Kim

If your going in early December the MVMCP might be your only chance at seeing the christmas parade

MVMCP is always one of the highlights of our December trip. We go on Sunday or Tuesday and it has never been real crowded. Fridays usually sellout. The last 2 years they allowed you to enter the park at 4:00pm with your MVMCP ticket and get your wristband. So that gives you 2 hours to ride before the park closes, lines were low then. Then they had the regular closing fireworks at 6:00pm. Then the people with wristbands were allowed to go to Tomorrowland to ride while they had the others exit. Then at 7:00pm they reopened the park. We got our picture taken right away at Small World, no line. The best bet is to head to the back of the park first thing, Fantasyland or Frontierland. Alot of people find a spot for the first parade right away, so the rest of the park isn't crowded. It does tend to get more crowded after the first parade ends. The fireworks are spectacular, they have a special ending where they are shot off in a circle around the park. We usually wait for the second parade, it's easier to find a spot than the first one. To get the most out of it, I would see the special shows & parade rather than concentrate on the rides you can do on another day. They had 12 nights last year, so that helped make the crowds lower than previous years.
