Day 2, Saturday December 6th

The cast…

Me, Erika, 34, Disney obsessed for as long as I can remember
DH, Steve, 36, extremely tolerant of my obsession, loves Disney vacations
DS, Matthew, 10 ½, loves Disney World, tried many new things this trip
DD, Alexa, 7 (almost 8), as Disney crazy as I am

6 am at the All Star Music, toilets flushing, showers running and feet stomping past the door. Wow, these people get up early!!! I wonder if these were the same ones stomping past the room at 1 am? Nah, no one can live on that little sleep LOL. I stay in bed till about 7, luckily my kids are still sleeping. I hop in the shower, and then try to get ready. Hmmmm, no hair dryers here! They had them when we stayed at the movies, so this surprised me. My hair is baby fine and stick straight, so if I can’t blow dry my bangs with a round brush, it’s a frightening sight, I look like a drown rat. Hope I don’t scare the animals at AK. We get ready and re-pack the bags, and load up the car. We drive back to the main building for breakfast. Ahhh, the food court, that is the one thing I love about the value resorts!!! Lot’s of variety and good choices for the kids. The kids had cinnamon rolls, and I got a Mickey waffle. The girl that makes those waffles was amazing. She had it down to a science. No easy task making waffles for that many people with only 4 single Mickey irons. On the way to the car after breakfast, what do I see??? A gift shop!!!!!!!!!! Disney shopping is my thing, my kids even know to yell “keep her out of there, let’s keep moving” when I see one. Well, the kids did need autograph books and pens, so I have to go in. Then what’s the first thing I find, Pal Mickey!!! Of course we have to have one of those LOL. Dh rolls his eyes at me. Turns out, Pal Mickey will actually be a lot of fun on the trip.
I decided AK would be our best choice for today, as we are not getting the earliest of starts, and I knew half the world would be at the MK. We arrived at AK around 9:30, and then we had to get our AP’s activated. Lines for security, lines for Guest relations, finally we reach the turnstiles. This is my son’s first trip as an adult, so he got to use the finger scan thingy for the first time. He loves technology so he thinks this is cool. We make it through the gates and walk by Tough to be a Bug. DD has been talking about this show for months, and now that we are finally here, she gets scared. Turns out the show is not running yet, so we have to skip it for now (much to her delight). We decide to head back toward the safari, but we spot Lilo and Stitch. We LOVE Stitch at my house, so this was most exciting. We get in line, and there are only a few people in front of us. As we move up, a woman and her mother go up to get there picture taken with them. The lady behind me says “no wonder these lines take so long, I only saw a few kids and thought the line would be short, why are adults getting their pictures taken?” Geez, what a grouch. Then she says something about Stitch being awful. Dh and I are laughing, what the heck is this lady doing here anyway??? And why is she waiting to see Stitch. Go figure. I grab a map and discover the Lion King is starting in a few minutes, so we head over there instead of the safari. I love this show, it’s so wonderful. We only had to wait a few minutes too, which is a bonus. When the show is over, we spot Kenai and Koda from Brother Bear, another favorite at our house. They are so cute. We get in line for them and meet a nice local family who ask us if we are from Minnesota. Dh is a walking billboard today with his Wild hat and Timberwolves jacket. They say to us “being from Minnesota, shouldn’t you be in shorts today?” LOL, “one would think” is my reply. Did I mention it was chilly and windy today??? They said we’d be lucky to hit 60 today (not bad by itself) but the wind had a quite a bite to it, and we were wearing sweatshirts and jackets. We reach the front of the line and they tell us Kenai and Koda are leaving, and we are the last ones to see them. Great timing! The locals behind us have such great attitudes, they say “that’s ok, they’ll take a break and be back soon”. So many people gripe when the characters leave. After the autographs and photo’s we do finally make it to the safari. Line says 20 minutes, longer than I like, but we give it a try. Turns out the only wait is the time it takes to walk all the way down to the loading area. We didn’t get to see any lions on this time, but we did see several elephants, including a baby, and some giraffes. We eat lunch at the Tusker house when were done on Safari, then head to Tarzan rocks. We made it over there, with just a couple minutes to spare. I love this show too! I really wanted to try the Primeval Whirl when we were done, but neither of my kids wanted to, so we skipped it. We did ride the Triceratop Spin, how exciting LOL. We caught a little street show, with some painters (I can’t remember their names now, grrrr), they were pretty funny. Then the kids were begging to go in the Boneyard. We managed to avoid this last time, but we gave in this time. At least they are old enough that we don’t have to chase them around. We saw so many grandparents with their grandkids, and it’s so great, how many of them were climbing and sliding just like the kids!! After that we headed back to Tough to be a Bug. My dd reluctantly goes inside. Silly me, I thought she could handle it this time around, she’s been talking about it for months. Welllllllllll, I was wrong! She hated it, spent most of her time with her head buried. Luckily she’s old enough that she bounces back immediately as soon as it’s over. We decided we were done here and wanted to head over for check in at the Boardwalk. It was already 3:45 or so. Looking here at what we did, it doesn’t seem like it should have taken so long but it did.
We arrived at the Boardwalk a little after 4 and checked in. Our room was exactly what we asked for, upper floor near the elevators. This was our first trip as DVC members, and we were very pleased. The space of the two bedroom is so wonderful. After we ooohhed and ahhhed over our new digs, we strolled over to Beaches and Cream. We actually had to wait for a table for the first time ever, but only 10 minutes or so. I love eating here, the hot dog is excellent, huge, but excellent and love the vanilla coke. We had had 3 boxes shipped down before we left, one of ours, with cereal and snacks. The other 2 were water, juice and spaghetti sauce from Netgrocer. They were both supposed to arrive on or before the 5th of December. Someone at the front desk got a manager to go to the package center, and when we got back from dinner we had 1 box. No sign of the netgrocer boxes. I had used them in the past and never had a problem, I figured they must have missed the boxes when they got my other one out of the package center. I ran down for milk and got some water too, since mine wasn’t there yet. We spent the rest of the night just hanging out in our room and enjoying all our space. And when it was time for bed, we all enjoyed our new sleeping arrangements!! The kids each in their own bed, and we got our own room with a king bed! Now I can sleep.

It's ironic that WDW says we all should come there and be kids again, but then they say that a 10 year old is an adult! Oh well, it's Disney-what can you do!?! Enjoying your trip report.

It was cold that day I remember. Being from New York, we had flown out in the snow storm that day and I couldn't wait to get to Florida and wear a t-shirt, but I had to keep my sweatshirt and jacket on. Sounds like a fun day.
