My mother and i are planning to travel to Califorinia mid august how is the weather and how are the crowds this time of year?

I've been twice in mid-August (check out my TRs in my sig) and the crowds have been there, but the in general it hasn't been THAT bad. The lines for most rides don't really reach more than 45-60 minutes and even those are very easy to avoid if you read all of the tips on these boards. Plus the weather is niiiiiiiiiiiice. :beach:

Very warm and busy, but very doable if you plan. We go every year mid August and love the heat.

I have only been there once in August and it was actually overcast and quite chilly (this is not typical August Southern California weather though). It was crowded, but not too bad.

Was in Disneyland August 14-23 2008. Weather was great. Not too warm, not too cold. Just right. Crowds were moderate. Lines for Indy stretched to like 90 minutes some times. But other times the lines were short for everything. It wasnt too bad most of the time though.

We just got back from our first summer visit to Disney in ---well, ever. I used to think people were crazy for going in the summer, but we were going on one of the cruises out of LA, so we thought we would just add on as a bonus.
Our dates we were there were August 12-17.
We were very surprised at the crowd level. We knew with gas prices and the economy that it limited the crowds somewhat, and read from the boards, and other people that it was not very crowded for typical summer, so I think we hit it lucky.
I remember walking down Main Street USA at about 1:30, 2 pm, and thinking, this is exactly what it looks like in September/October!
We enjoyed Fantasyland that was almost empty up to about an hour after park opening. Even going late (9am) on a Saturday, we only waited about 10 minutes for Astro Orbiter, and 10-15 minutes for Autopia at about 10 am...crazy. It was pretty much hit and miss though. Indy and other rides did get 45-60 minutes during peak times of the day, but we did really good hitting things early in the morning, and taking it easy the rest of the day. Even rides like Buzz, etc, never seemed to get much past 20 minutes (from whenever I passed them). Now the Neverland pool at DLH was a different story! :scared1:
We were pleasantly surprised (weather was great!!!!), and would go back again if it was the same! We took some family members where it was their first time in the summer too, and they agreed that it wasn't bad at all...very doable.

Crowd levels at pool at Disneyland Hotel was bad???Heard pools get real crowded in August...

Anyone know if Grand Californian Hotel is just as crowded? I would think less crowded..pricey! People may tend to stay away because of price point??????????????????

Thanks..Hope we are as lucky as you mid August 09!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

We went to Disneyland this past August (August 24 - 31) and we had a great trip.

The crowds were very manageable. Read all of Hydroguys tips on how to manage during high season. Then live the rules - it made a huge difference! Collect fastpasses (again, read Hydroguys tips!)

The mornings were light in the morning, but by 7:00 p.m. Disneyland gets really busy with locals coming in after work. Know this and make your plans accordingly.

It is warm, but we took a break everyday in the middle of the day when the heat was too much to bear. You need the break anyway to enjoy the long days of Summer.

Make all your dining arrangements before you go...it is a busy time and it is hard to just "walk in" to the restaurants in DL.

August is a great time to go....just make sure you read these boards and take all the advice you can get.

You will have a great trip!

People do not stay away from the Grand Californian due to price point. When we tried to book for August 08 in June 08 all the dates we tried it was booked solid. They are expanding the Grand Californian but it is consistently full. Walking through the Grand Californian, it is in my opinion the best hotel in the Disneyland Resort area. Beautiful hotel.

One thing to consider is that in late August, many of the kids are now back in school at that time.
