Disney in April (or How to Survive Spring Break) - Last Day p. 3

Great picture declansdad. I remember the view well, although in your picture it looks like they didn't have any resort buildings up across the lagoon yet.

Day 3 - AK and CdS

We slept late this morning, which for me, meant 8:00. Usually DH is the one up early around our house, he gets up at 5:00 every morning for work, but my Disney adrenaline was still flowing, and it wouldn't let me sleep when there was fun to be had.

Gabriella was up next, so she and I went to check whether the hair wrapping place at the resort was open. She had wanted to try the new Bippity Boppity Boutique, but I thought it was too expensive and she was probably too old for it, so I promised her a hair wrap instead. Alas, the stand was closed, so we looked around the store at the resort for a bit and got our free pin that was included with our package. It was a pin of a Disney bus. Big whoop, I wanted a princess.

We made it to AK around 10:30, too late to do EE without a long wait and I thought the FP times would be after we needed to leave the park, so I skipped it. So much for my rollercoaster ride. Cody had the sprayer bottle with him again, so we went through the whole routine of him constantly stopping to play with it. We looked at the schedule and determined that we would see The Lion King show first. We had a bit of time before we needed to be there. The kids, especially Cody, like the zoo, so we took some time to look at the animals on the way in.

We were near the front of the line for The Lion King show and got seats only three rows up. The theater has a new roof, it's fully enclosed now. I thought it took away some of their seating but I may be wrong. The new air conditioning was wonderful, though. I love this show and for some reason music always makes me cry, so I was sitting there sniffing and telling myself firmly that I would not cry. It didn't work. It was just one of those Disney moments.

Next, we went to see Pocohontas. It was standing room only when we got there, which wasn't surprising, since it started only about 10 minutes after LK ended. The whole LK crowd headed straight for Pocohontas. We managed to sit on the ground near the front, but our view of most of the animals was obstructed. The kids got some paper leaves from the CM after the show, gave them to me to hold, and promptly forgot about them. They are still gathering dust in the bottom of my bag. I couldn't throw them away though, because if I did, it would be a certainty that they would ask about them 3 days from now and throw a fit if I didn't have them. In fact, Cody did ask about his leaf a few days later and ta da, I was able to produce it. He looked at it for about a second and then told me to put it away again. He hasn't asked about it since, though.

We hadn't gotten a lot of autographs up to then, so we spent some time at Camp Minnie-Mickey seeing the different characters. In the past, getting autographs had been one of the highlights of our trip. This time, the kids just weren't as interested. They preferred going on rides to standing in incredibly long lines to get a signature of someone dressed in a costume. We did want some autographs, though, so this was the time.

It was time for lunch, so we headed to Tusker House in the Africa section. I checked on FPs for KS, but the return time was 4:00 and we needed to be out of the park before then, so we skipped it. It pays to get up early. After lunch, we went to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Except for the train ride, it's a complete waste of time, in my opinion. But DH wanted to go and it was something to do. The kids wanted to leave almost immediately.

On the plus side, we saw the talking trash can there. It wasn't Push. It said its name, but I didn't catch it. It was a big hit, but some other kids were monopolizing it. It even had to gently reprimand one of the kids, who was trying to push it around. It talked to Gabriella for a little bit, but never noticed Cody.

It was time to leave the park. We left a bit earlier than we needed to because I wanted to be certain we had enough time to get to Downtown Disney. We took the bus to AKL and looked around a bit. We had an opportunity to stay there a few years ago, but I chose Coronado Springs instead, so I wanted to see what I missed. The lobby is awesome. We looked at the animals from the observation deck. Since it was afternoon and very hot, they weren't very active. We saw a few zebras and some Ankola cattle in the distance and that was about it. I also thought that the bus stop was a bit far for a premier resort. Since we weren't staying there, I'm sure we missed quite a bit of the resort. We never saw the pool, so I don't know what it is like. I'm glad I chose the resort I did, CS was lovely, had a nice pool and I really liked the landscaping.

We took the bus to DD. It went past Saratoga Springs. I was surprised to see the amount of building going on there. There is a huge expansion in the works, with quite a lot of new buildings going up. We got to DD West side and I sent DH and the kids into an ice cream shop while I ran to will call to pick up our tickets.

When I arrived at will call, they didn't have the tickets. I had my confirmation that I printed off my computer. Now this was the confirmation that they had sent me, to my e-mail account, after I bought the tickets. There was no confirmation number on it and no record that we had bought anything. The only thing the person at the window could do was allow me to buy the tickets all over again and then check my credit card receipt when I got home. She gave me a number to call so I could get a refund. Also, the tickets they had left were in a better, more expensive section, so I ended up paying more than I had originally. I was too tired to argue and didn't want to disappoint the kids, so I bought the tickets.

When I got back and told DH, he told me that he would have yelled and all the things he would have done differently if it was him at the window instead of me. So I told him that there was still time and he was welcome to do so. He didn't.

I should add that when we got home, there was no record on our credit card receipt of the tickets having been purchased. I have no idea why they sent me a confirmation without a number when the purchase never went through.

Before the show, we all used the restrooms near Pleasure Island. We got to the show and our seats were wonderful. We were right in front of the stage toward the back of the first section. During the show some of the actors danced right behind us in the aisle.

Before the show started, I realized I didn't have Cody's sprayer bottle, so I asked DH about it, since he was probably holding it. He wasn't. He had left it in the restroom and it was too late to go back. Cody was worried about his sprayer and wanted to leave right now to get it. Now the sprayer cost $16 and the tickets were nearly $400, so we told him there was no way we were leaving the show. DH apologized over and over. Cody was extremely upset. We had seen CdS before on TV and Cody thought his sprayer was much more important. "What's the big deal about this stupid show we've seen a hundred times anyway?" Then the clowns came out and distracted him.

The clowns were hilarious, the show was wonderful. If you ever get a chance to see it, definitely do it, it's worth every penny. Cody payed attention the whole time and loved it, but as soon as it was over, he and DH had to make a bee line for the restroom. The sprayer was gone. DH promised him a new one. Luckily, Cody wasn't too upset anymore, so he kept his temper in check.

In the meantime, Gabriella and I had stopped at the Virgin Megastore because she wanted the Disneymania 4 CD. It was advertised on all the buses, but we couldn't find it anywhere. The store had a display for it, but no CDs. We wanted to stop and ask someone, but they were all exceedingly busy, so we left.

While we were gone, Cody had seen the boat going across the lake and wanted to take a ride, so we checked it out. It was going to the Marketplace. Our original plan had been to call it an early night and do some swimming at PC. Cody and DH wanted to ride the boat and since we could catch a bus from the Marketplace, that was fine. Besides, Gabriella and I realized that if we went to MP, we could do more shopping! Cody ended up getting something at the Lego store. Gabriella and I looked for her CD. This time we were able to catch a CM who told us she thought it wasn't out yet as she had been checking her computer for it herself. Why would they advertise something you can't buy yet?

We made it back to the hotel and the hair wrap place was still open, so Gabriella and I stopped to get her hair wrapped. We were the last customers she took for the night. I thought it wouldn't be as expensive as the BBBoutique. It ended up costing nearly as much. Gabriella has hair half-way down her back and you have to pay by the inch. Plus, all the beads cost extra. Gabriella immediately started digging into the nice looking $5.00 beads. After she had picked about 4 of them (note $20.00 just for beads), I noticed what she was doing and nixed that idea. I made her get the 50 cent ones, mean mother that I am. It still ended up costing $32.00. She was extremely happy with it.

We got to bed around 10:30. Our plan for tomorrow was to get up early and go back to AK to see all the things we missed, especially EE and KRR. After that, we would do some park hopping.

This morning the alarm woke me up at 6:00 a.m. I was determined to ride EE today and nothing was going to stop me. We actually made it to AK shortly after opening and I made a beeline for EE. No one else wanted to ride it with me, so DH and the kids went to Kali River Rapids. As fun as that ride is, I had no desire to start my day soaking wet with my hair a complete mess. I was happy to skip it in favor of the roller coaster.

When I arrived at EE, the FP return time was 9:15, but the standby line was only 20 minutes long. The single rider line was not yet open, so I stood in the stand-by line. It moved fast and I was through it in about 15 minutes. The ride was very good, you go forwards and backwards in both light and dark. The Yeti was very cool, although you only see it for about 2 seconds. It wasn't quite as wild or fast as I thought it would be, but I still liked it.

When I got off the ride, the single rider line was open so I went on it two more times. After three rides, I decided it was enough and went to meet my family at Triceratops Spin. They arrived shortly after me and announced they had ridden KRR three times, as well. We went on TS, it's basically the same ride as Dumbo, but nowhere near as popular. There was no line and we got on immediately.

Cody had found a ride he liked, and wanted to go on KRR again. DH also liked it and he doesn't like a lot of wild rides, so the two of them decided to ride it again. Meanwhile, Gabriella and I went to get FPs for Kilamanjaro Safari. We go the FPs and then got something to drink and some fruit at a nearby stand. Then we waited...and waited...and waited. The stand-by line for KS was only about 10 minutes and if I had known it would take DH so long, I could have taken Gabriella on the ride while we were waiting.

We got bored, so we explored a nearby shop. Then we waited some more. By now, I was getting a bit peeved. One of the street performers came out, so we watched him for a while for something to do. Finally, DH and Cody showed up. They had gone on KRR twice and stood in stand-by both times. They had kept us waiting for 45 minutes and I was not happy. DH didn't think it was a big deal.

By this time, it was time for our KS FPs, so we got right on the ride. The animals at the beginning of the ride were mostly hiding. We saw some hippos, mostly submerged, some birds, and a few deer-like animals. We were seated right behind the driver. As we drove through a strand of trees, I suddenly spotted a giraffe just a couple yards away from the vehicle. It was standing right next to a tree and its neck was the same color as the trunk of the tree. It blended in so perfectly, even the driver missed it. I pointed it out to DH and the kids, (by now DH was mostly forgiven) and the driver noticed me doing it, so he pointed it out to everyone else.

As we approached a bridge, there was a signal light for the driver hidden in the bushes. It was on red, so he had to stop for it. It wouldn't turn green. He had to radio his control base, they tried to fix the problem, but it stayed red. After about 5 minutes, they let us go ahead anyway. The bridge didn't move the way it was supposed to, but we made it over safely. After that, we saw a lot of elephants, including babies, and a male lion.

We had some time after KS, so we went on the Pangani Exploration Trail. A male gorilla put on a display complete with chest beating and then sat right across the chasm from us. Everyone was snapping pictures. After that, we saw Flights of Wonder. Everyone enjoyed it. Then it was time for lunch. We ate at Flame Tree Barbeque. Since it is only open seasonally, this was the first time that the restaurant was open when we were there. We ate near the river and a boat with Mickey and Pals floated right by us.

We skipped a few things at AK. Dinosaur was too scary for the kids and I don't like rides that jerk you around. The kids didn't want to play in the boneyard, and we just skipped the Maharaja jungle trek. We had been promising the kids that they could swim in the resort pool for days, but we never had time. So the plan was to go back to the resort for a few hours and swim before we headed over to MK for the evening. DH and Cody decided that they wanted to to KRR again, so they would meet us at Pop around 3:00 p.m.

Gabriella and I went swimming in the Hippy Dippy Pool (I feel stupid every time I say that). We had a fun time and it was nice to relax for a bit, instead of running through the parks every hour of the day. I was surprised at how many people were at the resort during the middle of the day. Gabriella decided she was done swimming and the boys weren't back yet, so I decided to do some laundry. DH and Cody walked in just before we left the room and Cody decided he didn't want to swim. He had seen the Arcade and wanted to do that instead. He and DH had gone on KRR twice more, once with FP and once without, and were both soaked and happy. I guess Cody decided he had enough "swimming". Everyone changed out of their wet clothes and DH took the kids to the arcade, while I did laundry. It was wonderful to have some time to myself. I read my book by the pool and waited for the laundry, no kids, no DH, just peace.

They were they just to the left of the picture. I think I zoomed in enough to get rid of them or I cropped them out. I do have pictures of those buidling in one of my albums though.

It's been fun reading your report so far.

After the laundry was done, we headed over to MK. It seemed like there were a lot less people than there had been earlier in the week. I guess everyone who had Tue. and Wed. flights home had left. Also, it had been incredibly hot the last couple days, in the 90's. Tonight there was a nice breeze and it was very comfortable.

Since Cody and I hadn't had a chance to see Tomorrowland yet, we headed there first. We picked up FPs for Buzz and then went to see CoP, which Gabriella had decided she liked. The show started, the curtain came up for the intro, and then the ride stopped. After a few minutes, they started it again. It broke down again. We waited a few more minutes and it started up for the third time. By now I had the introduction memorized. It broke again. Finally, the fourth time, the ride worked and we got to see it all the way through. It's outdated and DH thinks it's the dumbest show at WDW, but it was Walt's idea (as I heard 4 times during the intro) and a classic, so they'll probably keep it forever.

We used our BL fast passes. Cody wasn't sure what to expect. He had issues with the start of the ride being dark again, but got on anyway. He had fun shooting the targets. I got 168,600 points! Woo hoo! I beat DH by a mile. I am the champion! He claimed it was because Gabriella kept swinging the car around so it wasn't facing the targets. Yeah, right.

We then tried TTA. Cody was hesitant. "How fast does it go? Is it dark? Does it go down big hills?" He loved it. He wanted to go "again, again". So we did. In fact, there weren't many people on the ride so the CM just let us stay on.

Everyone decided to do Buzz again, so we got another FP. I showed the kids the phone in Tomorrow Land and let them play for a bit. They didn't want to stop making the phone calls. Sometimes it's the little things that are the best.

It was time for supper so we headed over to Cosmic Rays. The kids liked the robot that plays music. What's his name? Sunny Eclipse? I think that's right, but I'm not certain. Then we did the Speedway. Cody and Gabriella got to drive. Gabriella was with me. Thank goodness they have that rail in the middle, she kept turning the wheel too far and the entire ride was us crashing into the guiderail from side to side.

We went back to BL and this time I rode with Gabriella. My score was nearly nowhere as high this time. It must have been because she kept turning the car the wrong way, at least that's what I told DH.

The kids decided they wanted to go on Splash Mountain. Even Cody wanted to go on. My main concern for tonight was to see the Electromagic Parade and the Wishes fireworks. We headed over there. This side of the park was much more crowded, and surprisingly, more hot. The breeze that had been blowing through TM had disappeared.

The FPs for Splash were for after 10:30, but the stand-by line said it was only a 30 minute wait. That gave us just enough time before the parade, and the kids really wanted to ride, so we waited...and waited. It took about 45 minutes to get through the line. They kept letting those horrid FP people go ahead of us. Who do those people think they are anyway? (ha, ha) Cody decided to ride with me. The kids seemed to have picked up the notion somewhere that mom was braver than dad and every time they were scared of a ride, they wanted to be by me. Cody made me keep my arm over him like a seat belt for the whole ride. I don't know why they don't put seat belts in the ride, with as big a drop as the ride has. It can't be that hard to put them in.

Cody kept asking when the drop was going to come. Not yet, not yet. Finally it was there, and he had the biggest smile on his face when it was done. He said it was fun and he liked it. DH thought he was mighty brave to go on the ride. Our first few times at WDW, he refused to try it, now he thought it was fun. However, BTMR was still off his list. He was determined to try it when we were still at home, but now wanted nothing to do with it.

We were late for the parade, but it started at the other end of the park, so it was just coming by when we got off the ride. We got stuck at the end of the bridge by Splash and watched the parade from there. We still had a good view. I thought that the parade was much shorter that it had been in the past. Also, since everyone coming off Splash and BTMR got stuck, there was quite a crowd. They really should do something about the dead end in that section of the park. It was always horribly crowded over there, with 2 popular rides and the rafts to TS Island in the same dead end spot.

We headed over to the front of the castle to see Wishes. Everyone was thirsty so we stopped to get something to drink at the stand where they sell the Dole whips. I was tempted, but I just wasn't hungry, so I just got a soda. You'll probably tell me I missed out on something special, but I couldn't eat another bite just then.

Wishes was good. We watched it from the bridge near the Crystal Palace. Our view was slightly obstructed by the trees. I had expected something more, from all that I had heard about the fireworks. We were there for Christmas one year and they had surround fireworks, coming from the roof of the buildings on Main St. Now that was spectacular! I expected something similar and was a bit disappointed, but I did like the way they coordinated the fireworks with the music.

On our way to the bus, we saw some boats in a line on the lagoon. As we watched, they turned on their lights. We were watching the light up parade on the lake! I can't remember what it's called. We stayed and watched it for a while, then headed back to the hotel. Cody fell asleep on the bus, both kids were exhausted. Still, it was our plan to get to MGM for early opening the next day. Did we make it? Did we keep to my schedule?

Yeah, right. With two exhausted kids and an exhausted DH who was I kidding?

After keeping the kids up late, my plan to get up early this morning was blown to pieces. We got to MGM around 10:00 or so. Once again, it was unbearably hot. The crowds had thinned out since Easter, though, so that made things better. It seemed to me that the show times in this park were scheduled badly. It was impossible to progress logically from one show to another. It seemed we kept running from one end of the park to the other. Add to that our lunch and dinner reservations, which were at strange times, and we just didn't have time for everything.

First thing, when we entered the park, DH spotted a stand that sold the water bottle sprayers with fans, so he bought Cody a new one as a replacement for the one he had lost.

When we arrived, we checked out FPs for Little Mermaid. The return time was during our lunch time, so we had to skip it. Playhouse Disney wasn't starting for about another 45 minutes, so we had some time to kill. We decided to check out the Narnia display.

We had seen the movie in the theaters and the Easter Bunny brought the DVD for Cody. We walked in throught the wardrobe door. I don't know if it was a re-creation for Disney, or if it was really used in the movie, but the carvings were very well done. It looked just like the picture you see on the DVD cover. It was very detailed and lustrous. We then walked into a room that was a winter forest complete with pine trees and the lamppost from the movie. I asked a CM whether they were the real props and she said the lamp post was the real one they used in the making of the movie, but she wasn't sure if the trees were from the movie set.

I made the whole family touch the lamppost. Now the kids can tell the friends and relatives that they touched the real Narnia lamppost. They had some other props from the movie, like the Queen's scepter and the sleigh. It wasn't a very big display, but it was still nice to see.

Next we went to Playhouse Disney. Once again, Cody wouldn't walk, despite our pleas. He had to keep stopping to use his new sprayer. We arrived just as they were about to close the door. Gabriella sat on the floor with her arms crossed. She thought she was much too old to be forced to sit through the baby show and let us all know it. Toward the end, when they released the bubbles, though, she was on her feet with everyone else, trying to pop them.

We had about half an hour before our lunch ressies, so we went to the Walt Disney display. We enjoyed looking around and left by a side entrance without seeing the movie.

Our lunch ressies were for 11:30 at the Sci-Fi Theater. We had never eaten there before and I thought Cody would enjoy the cars. I was right. The kids sat in the front and pretended they were the drivers, while DH and I shared the back seat. The movie skits were corny but fun, Cody wasn't frightened at all. The food was okay. I had read that the food wasn't that good, but it wasn't any worse than at other WDW burger joints and I liked the theming of the restaurant.

After lunch, we got FPs for the new L,M&A Stunt show. There was a CM there who was giving out free FPs. We didn't have to use our own tickets, which meant that we could get another FP anywhere in the park right away. Unfortunately, there wasn't any place that required FPs that the kids wanted to see, so we let that opportunity slip through our fingers. The Power Rangers happened to come out while we were there. Cody was duly impressed. We stopped to get autographs.

Then it was off to the Backlot Tour. They took out a good chunk of it for the new show. DH didn't realize they did that until I told him. He was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see some of the movie set houses, but he got over it. At the end, you walk through a building with movie prop displays. We saw the witch's hat from the Wizard of Oz, a few other things I don't remember, and once again, Narnia props. The Queen's battle outfit and chariot were on display.

It was nearly time for our FPs, but not quite, so we killed some time in the HISTK playground. The kids enjoyed it. I thought it was incredibly hot in there.

Then we went to the stunt show. It was okay. Some of the stunts were very good. I was surprised at how early they started seating people in the theater. We had to get there about 45 minutes before the show started. It really did take that long for everyone to get seated. It was horribly hot. Cody had his sprayer and we all took advantage of it. Even the people behind us wanted him to spray them. I'm glad we saw the show once, but it's probably not something I would waste my time on again.

After the show, Gabriella asked if we could please go somewhere air-conditioned. By that time, we were all ready for someplace cool, so we went to the GMR. Once again, there were Narnia props. The coats the children wore were on display. We had to coax Cody onto the ride. "It looks dark, mom." I explained it wasn't dark at all, but forgot about the Aliens part of the ride. He buried his head in me and plugged his ears until we were past that part.

It was time for our extremely early reservations at H&V. I had waited until the last minute to make Fantasmic reservations. We thought we didn't really need them, but changed our minds at the last minute, so we ended up eating dinner at 4:00. No one was hungry. While we were in the restaurant it started raining. Pouring rain, thunder, lightening, the works. It rained for the next 2 hours. I thought that I had made the reservations in vain and that they would cancel Fantasmic.

After dinner we ran through the rain to Little Mermaid and got FPs. Then waited in the princess gift shop. Going somewhere else was out of the question, as it was pouring. We could have waited in stand-by, but the people in that line were going to be let into the same show as us, and they would let us in first. The princess gift shop was a exercise in patience. Both kids were bored and wanted to spend all their parents' money. Cody wanted to buy princess shoes. I explained that everything in this store was for girls. It didn't matter. He wanted to spend money. When I said no to the shoes, he wanted a necklace. No, honey, sorry. Gabriella wanted everything she saw. It didn't matter what it was. Sorry. She had a quota for what she could spend on souveniers and had already spent all her money.

Finally, it was time for the show. The kids enjoyed it. In the past, when Gabriella was young, she was scared of the show. This time both kids liked it. They loved getting misted, they liked the bubbles. We had a fun time.

When we came out, we spotted a gift store that actually had some boy items. Cody got a green Power Ranger with a motorcycle. See kid, patience pays off. The PR was much better than princess shoes.

Then we decided to see Beauty & the Beast. I had asked someone in the gift store whether it was still playing. She thought that with the lightening, it would be cancelled. We decided to check anyway. We arrived early and got a seat near the front. We saw the quartet sing. I don't remember their name. They were excellent, and funny as well. I was glad we got there when we did. After B&B started there were a lot of rude people who arrived late and still decided to barge in front of everyone and try to get a seat in the front row. That's the handicapped row, by the way. I was surprised at their gall and lack of consideration for those who had arrived on time. The CMs were kept busy being firm and yet polite to these horribly rude people.

By this time, it had stopped raining, though there were still threatening clouds.

Next, it was time for Fantasmic. We went to the special seating section and ended up with rather good seats. The rain held off, despite about 50 announcements that the show could be cancelled due to inclement weather. The show started and it was wonderful, as usual. Cody was afraid for some of it, so he plugged his ears and pulled my arm around him.

Now it was my turn for some rides. DH took the kids back to Pop while I got to ride the thrill rides. I had wanted to come to the park early to do this, but when we slept late, I just flipped the schedule. DH hates wild rides and wanted to turn in early so it was just fine with him that I stayed late by myself.

I made a beeline to R&R. It's my favorite rollercoaster, ever. I love the way it accelerates to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. Yes, I know that is the correct number because the commercials on the TV in our room said so. Over and over and over again. Even Cody had it memorized and kept reminding me. There was hardly a wait at all.

After the ride was done, I thought about going again, but decided to do TT instead. Once again, there was no wait. I got right on the ride. I was in wild ride heaven.

Once that was done, there was just enough time before closing to get on R&R again. I walked on without a wait. It was about 5 minutes before park closing. I would have gone again, if I could, but it was too late.

I caught the bus back to my hotel. Now it's time for a little diatribe. As a mom who has had to hold my toddlers on the bus while standing, I get good and mad when someone won't give up their seat to someone with small children. It's darn hard to stay on your feet while holding onto a child with one hand and a railing with the other. As I sat there I counted at least 5 healthy men seated near me who wouldn't get up if a fire was lit under their you-know-what. I gave up my seat to a young mother with a toddler. Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but I just consider it good manners to help out someone who really needs it. Luckily, there were a few others who thought as I do and gave up their seats, so some of the small kids got to sit. Not all of them, though.

When I got back to Pop, DH and kids were still awake. Cody wanted to go on KRR tomorrow. Again. DH did too. Gabriella and I wanted to see Soarin' and we had dinner reservations at Epcot. We agreed to meet at noon at the Epcot fountain. Will DH make it on time? Yeah, right. So far his track record was zero. I think tomorrow's report will be titled "Why I'm still not talking to DH".

i just found your report and i love it! you are a great storyteller. are you going to add any more posts? i hope so!! :Pinkbounc

Philadisney a agree with you phoebusII has a good report. I was all excited that it poped back to the top of my subcription list when you posted on it thinking she was back, but her profile still says she has not signed on since May so I don't think it will get finished. She may be gone from dis.

Great stuff, Thankyou for sharing your trip :thumbsup2

There's really interest in me continuing this report? No one was responding, so I thought no one was reading and just quit. If there is interest, I'll continue.

Day 6 -- Epcot

This morning DH and Cody wanted to ride KRR again. They had found a ride they both liked, so they went to AK while Gabriella and I headed to Epcot. We were to meet them at noon at the big water fountain, right by Spaceship Earth.

Gabriella and I got to the park shortly before opening and were ushered to the middle of FW. We missed most of the opening character show, but the important thing is that we got there before the rope drop and were one of the first people to get to Soarin'. We got FP's (went to the correct machines this time), then stood in the stand-by line. It was only about a 15 minute wait. I asked if we could sit in the first row and the CM complied with my request with no problem. Personally, I didn't see much of a difference between riding in the first and second tier. Soarin' was still very good, although it had lost the splendor we felt during our first ride.

We had breakfast at the Land's food court, while waiting for our FP time. Then rode Soarin' again. While eating breakfast, I tried my hardest to talk Gabriella into riding Test Track. She had been on both Splash Mountain and BTMR and had loved both rides.

"It isn't any worse than BTMR. Honest. Please go on the ride with mommy?"

To my surprise, she actually said yes, although she was still a bit nervous about it. Now, you see, I didn't force her to go on the ride. I simple "encouraged". Gabriella is a bit timid at times, but will warm up to new ideas eventually. We had been at Disney for a while now and she was getting more adventurous. Plus, I think DH scares the children unnecessarily at times, because he wants them to not ride the things he is afraid of. So I didn't 'make' them ride anything. But I begged pretty hard.

We ran to TT to get FP's before she changed her mind. Then I took her on Universe of Energy because there was just enough time to go on that and get back to TT for our FP time. Plus it was close, and it's a long ride and would serve to keep her mind off any fears she might harbor about TT.

Universe of Energy was fine, then we headed to TT. We still had to wait about 20 minutes, even in the FP line. Gabriella wanted to know if we were going to crash like the display crash dummies. "No sweetie, Disney would get their pants sued off if they crashed millions of people."

She loved the ride and wanted to go again. "Please mommy?" Hurray! I have a new ride buddy!

We didn't have FP's though and I was not about to get in the horrendously long stand-by line. Besides it was time to meet DH and Cody. So we headed for the fountain, where we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Okay. Maybe DH, who isn't as obsessive about Disney as I am got the fountains wrong and was waiting for us by the little fountain at the front of the park, on the other side of the "golf ball". So we walked over there and checked. No. Not there.

We went back again to the meeting spot. It was hot. Gabriella was thirsty. We checked out the pin display. We went to the bathroom to get out of the heat.

We went back to the fountain.

And waited.

Finally, DH and Cody showed up.

I was NOT TALKING TO DH.

Except for yelling at him a bit.

I kept the yelling to a reasonable level though. I didn't say even a tenth of the things I wanted to say. Like: How many times are you going to keep us waiting this trip? Do you not think about anyone but yourself? There had better have been a darn good emergency for keeping us waiting for nearly an hour. Do you realize that because of you Gabriella is hot and thirsty and nearly sick. Okay, maybe I did say that last one. But that's not yelling.

That's called laying on the guilt.

The kids and I went to eat at the Electric Umbrella. It was the closest air-conditioned place that we could get something to drink.

DH tagged along.

As we were standing in line, I asked Cody how many times he went on KRR. I did not ask DH because I was not talking to him.

"Twelve, mommy."

"Twelve?!!!"

"Yes. Twelve."

But DH swore that was not why they were late. Stay tuned for his great explanation.

Well I am glad you are back. :cool1: I love your report.

We got our lunch at the Electric Umbrella and ate upstairs. It was a nice retreat and we could see the people walking outside, below us.

By now I had calmed down and was talking to DH again (sort of), so he was able to explain why they were so late.

His explanation:

"Yes, we rode KRR twelve times, but we left AK by 10:45. We decided to go back to Pop Century to change because we were soaking wet. The bus was late. We waited forever. Finally, we got back to Pop Century and Cody fell down and scraped his knee on the walk back to the room. They were making up the rooms and we stopped and asked a maid if she had a band-aid. She didn't, but went and got us one and it took her a long time to get back. That's why we were late. Oh, and dear, if you hadn't had all the band-aids in your purse, we wouldn't have had to ask the maid for one, so, you see, it's really all your fault that we are late."

Right.

Meanwhile, Gabriella had told Cody all about Test Track and what a great ride it was. Cody and DH decided they wanted to go on it, too. Gabriella and I were fine with going again, so we headed over and got FP's. Then, to pass the time, we rode Spaceship Earth. Cody rode with me. He was scared and plugged his ears. Plugging his ears seems to be what he does when he is scared. Gabriella was fine with the ride. We then went to Innoventions East. The kids discovered that it was a place to PLAY. They loved it. Especially the computers. It was next to impossible to tear them away.

When it was time for TT, we discovered that it had rained while we were inside. Now it was back to being sunny and a very nice day. We rode TT. Cody, DH, and Gabriella all loved it. DH, who is a police officer, said it was "nothing". He has driven cars faster than the ride. See dear, when you try new things that you think you are afraid of, you may actually discover that you like them.

DH asked if they still have that place where you can sample different kinds of Coke. "Why, yes they do dear." I led the way to the newly remodeled Coke "igloo". While there, I pulled the kids aside and told them to play a trick on daddy. So they told him to try the Beverly flavor, telling him it was the one that tasted best. He took a big swallow. Yuck!! The face he made was priceless. The kids giggled and thought it was incredibly funny.

Next, we headed to the World Showcase. This time, we started at Canada and checked out the waterfall, but didn't see the movie. Next we stopped at GB. The Beatles band (I don't remember their name) was playing and we listened for a while. I showed the kids the maze. They loved it! The wouldn't stop running through it, even when we begged them to leave. We actually had to chase Cody down. DH blocked him in on one side and I blocked him in on the other. DH finally caught him and carried him out.

We saw the movie at France next. It was a good place to get out of the heat.

Then we saw the drummers at Japan. They are excellent. We did a bit of shopping at Japan. The store is huge. I looked at some dishes, but didn't buy anything. They had nice souveniers for kids. Japan is the home of Hello Kitty and Yu-Gi-Oh. Gabriella bought a wallet. Cody got some Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

We checked out the street show at Italy. It was cute. They put on a play and conscripted people from the crowd to play various roles.

We had dinner at Germany. The show was fun. We sat next to people from Michigan and a couple from the east coast, I think New Jersey. The band played the chicken dance and we and the folks from Michigan danced along from our seats. The people from New Jersey looked at us like we had lost our minds.

After dinner, we went on the Mexico boatride again. "Please, mommy?"

Then DH and the kids decided they wanted to ride the monorail. I, on the other hand wanted to ride Mission Space. It was about 8:45 p.m. and there was no line. I had debated about riding MS because it seems to make a lot of people sick. I couldn't go home without riding it though, or I would just kick myself for having the chance and not taking it. However, I didn't want to spend the whole day at Epcot feeling woozy, so I saved it until last.

It was fantastic! After the ride was done, I felt as though I had been on the tilt-a-whirl for a really long time. But I like that feeling! So I ran around to the entrance and rode it again! If there had been time, I would have gotten on a third time, but the park was closing and so was the ride.

On the way out, I stopped for a bit and watched the fireworks. Then got on the bus and headed back to Pop Century.

Today was our last full day at WDW. We ended up having a great day. Cody was healthy again, although he was still on medication and hated taking it. He doesn't like strawberries and the medicine had a strawberry-banana flavor. We went through a lot of coaxing to get it down. DH used football analogies. "Come on, buddy, let's get to the 50 yard line with this medicine. Good. Now let's get a touchdown." Also, there wasn't a lot of waiting around for people, which made me happier.

We slept a bit later today. I was up earlier than the others and took the kids to the Arcade at PC while DH finished getting ready. We had leftover tokens from the time DH took the kids to the Arcade and we needed to use them up. DH joined us and we got breakfast at the food court.

As we were sitting and eating our breakfast, I heard someone call my name. I looked up and was surprised to see some of my relatives. My mother's cousin and her children (my second cousins? first cousins once removed? - I can never keep it straight) were also staying at PC. They had arrived a few days earlier. Small world.

We arrived at MK around 10:30 and went on the Jungle Cruise. There was a short line, so we didn't need a FP. Then we went on Aladdin and to the Tiki Room. Cody was scared. I think I liked the old version better. Iago annoys the heck out of me.

Next we went on Pirates again, just to see it one last time before they change it. We got FP's for Splash Mountain. Gabriella and I went on BTMR while Cody and DH headed for TS Island. Neither of them wanted to ride the roller-coaster. Gabriella and I used our "free" FP's. The day I took Cody to the ER, DH and Gabriella rode Carousel of Progress. It broke down and the CM gave everyone a FP good for anywhere in MK. They each got one, they were still valid, and since the boys didn't want to ride, Gabriella and I put them to good use.

After BTMR Gabriella and I headed to the rafts. There was a lost baby duck that the CM was keeping an eye on. Its mother had crossed the road and it got left behind. I never found out what happened to it.

We met DH and Cody at the TSI fort. The kids pretended they were shooting enemies and had a blast using the "secret" escape route and pretending that they were being chased by "bad guys". We had to go through all the tunnels and over all the bridges. Their imagination had shifted into high gear and they wanted to play. Cody fell in love with the island.

After we got off the island, Cody decided he didn't want to go on Splash M. after all, and I said I would stay with him since I didn't particularly want to get wet. DH and Gabriella used our 4 FPs and got to ride twice. I took Cody to the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade and then to Columbia Harbor House for lunch. We ate upstairs where it is much quieter. As we were eating, our neighbors from back home happened to come in and sit at the table next to us. I noticed them and said hello. After a bit DH and Gabriella joined us. She was thrilled to see her friends and we talked for a bit.

I headed to Haunted Mansion by myself, since no one wanted to ride on it but me, and DH took the kids to Small World. I headed over there to meet them after my ride and was surprised to see that the line for SM was spilling out the door. I ended up waiting for them for a bit.

Cody wanted to go to TS Island again. Please, please, please. But we were just there. I tried to fight the inevitable. It was time for the parade, so we watched it from Liberty Square, then headed inside to see the president show. Once again, I thought the parade was a lot shorter than it had been in the past.

It was a very hot day again and the president show was a great place to cool off. Then it was time for the inevitable. The kids wanted to back to TS Island, so we did. The baby duck was gone. I hope it found its mother. After the island we took the bridge walkway in Frontierland. The kids wanted to keep stopping to look at the ducks and other birds, so we spent some time chilling out and just doing that.

Next, DH and I decided we would like to see Mickey's Philharmagic again. Plus, it was a nice air-conditioned place. We got PP FPs on the way.

We were one of the first people in and stood right in front of the doors waiting for them to open. About 30 seconds before they opened, Cody had an epiphany.

"This isn't the scary Donald Duck show, is it?" he asked.

Scary? I didn't realize he thought it was scary the last time.

"No," said DH, who hadn't a clue. "This is the Mickey Mouse show."

Um, dear, it may be called Mickey's Philharmagic, but the main character is Donald Duck. I kept my mouth shut.

Cody made it through the Donald Duck show just fine. Then we took a ride on the Carousel.

We used our PP FP's. Why anyone would want to stand in an hour long line for that ride, I don't know, but there were a lot of people doing it.

We got FP's for Pooh and went to Toon Town. We all rode Goofy's Barnstormer twice. Cody decided he loved this roller-coaster. It was just his size. Then we went back to ride Pooh.

We had dinner at LTT, my favorite MK restaurant. The characters came around several times and made a big fuss over Gabriella's hair wrap. She loved it. The food was good and I really like the atmosphere.

The kids wanted to ride the train, so we took it from SM to Toon Town. Gabriella and I got Princess autographs. The boys waited for a while and decided they were bored. I didn't blame them. The autograph lines at that location are incredibly slow. DH and Cody went to ride Goofy's Barnstormer again while Gabriella and I got the autographs. They rode 4 times, then we joined them and rode again.

We took the back walk-way to Tomorrowland. Hardly anyone knows it's there. It's a lovely quiet walkway, you bypass all the crowds and it gets you right to Space Mountain in no time at all.

That's all I have time for now. I'll write the last bit later.

After we arrived in Tomorrowland, DH and Cody decided they wanted to ride the Indy Speedway; even though we had just taken the back way to bypass that crowd. Go figure.

In the meantime Gabriella and I headed to Buzz Lightyear to get FP's, but they were all gone. She decided she wanted to ride the teacups, so we did. We went on twice as there was no line. Then she decided she wanted to see Carousel of Progress again. This time the show started without a hitch. As we were watching, we heard some loud booms coming from outside. I realized it was the fireworks show (was it that late already?).

We met the boys by TTA and got on the ride. A group of obnoxious teens got on the car right in front of us and we got to sit through the entire ride with them. Three boys and two girls. The boys thought they were impressing the girls by behaving badly. They yelled at the people in the cars going the other way, they yelled at the people walking down below. "Shirley, hey Shirley! Yeah you!" When someone looked up, "I love you Shirley!" They even yelled at the people in Mickey's Traders, even though there was a glass partition and no one heard them. Lucky shoppers. We heard them loud and clear. I leaned over and whispered to Cody. "Promise me you'll never behave like them when you get older." "Don't worry mommy," said my precious baby. "I'll never be THAT naughty."

As we got off the ride they accosted the poor CM. "Hey, can we get fast passes for this ride?" We followed them down the moving walkway/escalator. There they accosted another CM. "Do you have fastpasses for this ride?" The poor CM had this look of confusion on his face, he was surrounded by 5 obnoxious brats and he was supposed to be polite. I hope they got themselves kicked out of the park.

Next we tried Astro Orbiter, but it was late and the line was long. We decided to skip it. Cody wanted to go on TTA again, so we made it our last WDW ride for this trip. This time there were no horrid teens and we had a nice peaceful ride.

As we headed out of the park, Cody decided he was thirsty, so we stopped at a kiosk near the back of the castle. The Spectromagic Parade started as we were waiting. We saw it as it came out of its garage and decided to stay for the whole thing. We had a great view.

At the bus stop the bus was having some problems. They had loaded on someone in a wheelchair and it was the kind of bus that tilts over to let let a wheelchair on. They couldn't get it to straighten up again, despite repeated attempts. They also didn't let a second bus pull up alongside. So we waited a long time. They finally got the bus to work. We got to bed around 12:45.

The next morning we slept too late to do any swimming. Also, they had charged us for the refrigerator, even though they said they wouldn't. It wasn't a big deal, but DH called the front desk and they removed the charge. DH took Cody and Gabriella exploring at the resort for a bit. Then it was time to go.

We were the first people out front waiting for ME to take us to the airport. A huge group showed up and when the bus pulled up they somehow got ahead of us and gave the driver all their tickets. We still made it onto the bus. It took us to right to our airline without a hitch. The only horrible part was that we had to leave WDW. The flight went smoothly, except that they ran out of earphones. The stewardess said it was the first time in her experience that not enough had beed loaded onto the plane. Luckily, we were the last people to get a pair, but the kids had to share.

We arrived home to 70 degree weather, but the next day it plunged to near freezing. No one wanted to be home.

The good news? We have to go to FL for a wedding this weekend. We leave Thursday and will be back at WDW next Tuesday for three glorious fun filled days. Yippee!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:
