I am suppose to be going to disney in 2 days and I am still feeling the effects from my latest chemo treatment. I've been given the Ok to go as long as I am careful but I didn't think I would still be this sick. I'm just very weak and nausea a lot. Anyone do disney while still feeling the effects from chemo? What can I do to make it through?

My biggest suggestion is to relax and not push it. If you're not feeling up to a park on a given day, stay around the resort and rest or explore the resort. If you're staying longer than a weekend, it may even be a good idea to plan in some days to be spent at the resort to make sure you get some down time. On days when you do go to parks, go by your schedule and your speed. You may be able to do more if you get up for rope drop, take a break in the day, and go back in the evening, however, if you're not used to getting up and moving that early in the morning, there's no point in adding to your stress. You'll also just feel more rested if you're going by the schedule you're used to. If you need to take breaks you can either go back to your resort, or use First Aid to lie down.

I would highly suggest renting an ECV from an offsite vendor. Using an ECV will let you conserve your energy. Most rides have queues that are mainstreamed so you'd just bring the ECV through the queue with you. A few you'd need to switch to a wheelchair. You can also always park the ECV and walk through the queue, but if you're trying to conserve energy using the ECV more will help with that.

Otherwise, make sure you're drinking enough fluids and eating enough. I don't know what chemo you've been on, but making sure to have a hat, sunscreen, and loose clothing that covers as much as possible will help if it's a type that can increase photosensitivity. If you're not feeling up for rides, WDW is a great place even just to sit and people watch. There is always something going on to watch.

So sorry to hear that you are going through chemo treatments. I have not had to deal with this, but I threw out my back and was on medicines that made me sick and tiered. My suggestion to you is to rent a wheel chair (or borrow one and bring it). We have one at our house that all my friends know is always available if needed. If you don't want to be pushed around, try to scoot scoots (unlink riding around in a wheel chair at home there are lots of people who are in them in Disney). It doesn't feel strange to be in one. This will save your energy (since there is alot of walking around). Now while in the wheel chair make sure that you wear a hat (to keep the sun exposure down). And try to find one of those water misting bottles with a fan to keep you cool. Also don't forget to put sun screen on your legs since the sun will hit the tops of them.

I know it sounds silly, but the Disney trip is probably exactly what you need and will keep your spirits up. You cant help but feel better being in the warm sun and enjoying the Disney magic. Good luck and I wish you the best!

I have no first hand experience, but my son was trying out a new medication on one of our trip and it made him ill. One thing we did was keep him cool and we took a lot of breaks. I agree with the pp about renting an ECV or a wheelchair if you have someone that can push you. You might want to skip the 4D shows if smells and movement add to your discomfort.
I hope that a little pixie dust will help you feel better and I am sending some love and prayer your way.:flower3:

Ugh, chemo is a pain in the rear end, isn't it? I've never done Disney right after chemo but I remember that absolute exhaustion by the end of my treatments.

My suggestions are:

Drink lots of water.
Take an afternoon nap.
Rent or borrow a wheelchair or ECV.
Cover up, many chemo types make you prone to sunburn. Sunscreen and hat.
Find whatever you feel like eating and eat that. Now is not the time to watch what you eat! (Disney trips or chemo, who cares what you eat?!?!)

Most importantly, take you time and TAKE YOUR MEDS.

I finished chemo and radiation last month and we are vacationing this month. I'm sorry you are having difficulties. I would just take it easy and do what you can. Nap if you need to and take your anti-nausea Meds as needed.
