My fiancee wants to go to Disney on our honeymoon. Looking at something like the Polynesian, this is going to end up being probably $4,000 for a normal room with tickets and the plane, without counting any food, ect. What are some ideas for disney on how to make this work? To me, spending about $5,500 on a honeymoon seems nuts, but im not the most lavish spender.

Looking for Sept 12-18 2011

First of all, do the Disney Dining Plan. That way meals/food is taken care of. I had dreamed of staying at the Poly for my honeymoon for years, sadly we couldn't afford it. We chose to stay at the Port Orleans French Quarter instead and we had a WONDERFUL time. We will definitely return again.

How important is the room you are staying in?

:scared1: There is no way a 6-day trip to Disney should cost that much, especially not in September, which is Disney's low season. There is always some room discount available, whether it's through AAA or Disney or a travel agent. (Tickets are never discounted, unless you buy them some place like Undercover Tourist, and even then it's usually only by a few bucks.) Plane ticket prices will come down dramatically once you get within 4 months of departure, so check a web site that shows historical data (like Fare Compare) to see what September tickets really end up going for.

Right now, Disney is offering the Disney Dining Plan for *free* during your dates—check out this page: http://bookwdw.reservations.disney....=Promo&promotionCode=fy11dine&market=fy11dine

However, now that I look at it, in order to get all that "free" food you have to pay a rack rate of $3,139.00 at the Polynesian—ouch! It seems like you might do better to wait until Disney starts releasing room-only discounts for that time period.

The DIS has an entire board devoted to budget Disney travel that has WAY more info than I can give you in one post:

http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

You might also keep an eye on the Disney Discount Codes & Rates subforum, where people post all the resort discounts as they're released:

Another great resource is www.mousesavers.com

Check it out! :thumbsup2

Also keep in mind that even if you book now, you can still get in on new promotions that come up (so long as you are still eligible) but you MUST call Disney yourself to get them. Disney won't apply them for you.

$5,500 including round trip plane tickets for a Deluxe resort over 6 nights is pretty reasonable. It's a lot (I'm not usually a big spender either), so other than the above, here are my other money-saving tips:

- Start saving change as well as odds and ends of cash that you find in pockets when doing the laundry or laying around the house. Put it in a jar for "vacation money" and use it for souvenirs.

- Make a list of "must have" souvenirs so you don't go nuts buying things in the park (trust me, this happens).

- Downtown Disney has a lot of stores that have similar items sometimes for better prices, especially if you want things like ornaments or clothing.

- Look on your receipts after you eat your meals in the parks. Sometimes they will have coupons for 10% off at certain stores if you shop early in the day. Save these and have a little shopping morning.

- I never bother buying Photopass pics. You can just ask the photographer to take a picture with your camera as well, and they will usually let you do it, especially if you hold still for another 5 seconds so they can take their own picture. After all, it's what they're there to do.

- Like someone said, do the Disney Dining Plan. This is definitely worth it to do the regular or quick-service dining plans.

- A lot of moderate resorts are very nice, although I totally understand wanting luxury for your honeymoon. However, you really will save a bunch of money by aiming lower.

- Maybe try another deluxe resort? The Polynesian is one of the more expensive resorts to try. Wilderness Lodge or the Animal Kingdom Lodge are slightly more affordable and still on the high end of things.

- I wouldn't bother with concierge level unless there is something really compelling about it such as a special tour or something you must have. You'll be out and about most of the day, and unable to take advantage of some of the best parts of concierge.

Another question for you: What did you want to do at Disney? Rides? Dining? Spa? You know there is also a Honeymoon Registry you can do if you want wedding guests to have the option to help you with the honeymoon expenses. IMO this works better if you don't want/need other registries, and if you have a lot of experiences in mind for the two of you.

Like the others said, look for deals, if you really don't want to spend that much, look into other resorts also. I LOVE the poly, but it has gotten really expensive to stay there, do you like any of the moderate resorts? This would give you significant savings. I was just complaining yesterday about how much our honeymoon is costing us too, and that it's just so much money to spend in one week, but then again, it is a once in a lifetime trip.

Hi BrPanthers - DFi and I are honeymooning in Disney next August. We have been together 3 times before so were really hoping to spend our honeymoon in a deluxe for the first time (Poly would have been our first choice). However, after pricing it out, we realized we couldn't justify spending $2000 extra dollars on room location and instead opted to book our honeymoon stay at POR. We are excited, and feel good about our decision, because now we can spend that money in other ways - golf for DFi, spa for me, and some other extras along the way. :) Have fun planning!

have you considered renting DVC points? a week in a one bedroom in september at okw would be 159 points, or 1590$ a studio would run 77 points or about 770 for a week. a studio at BLT at the contemporary would be 137 points or about 1370$... it may be your cheapest bet for accomidations and you can add on the dining plan without buying park tickets so you could get your tickets cheaper from undercover tourist. just a thought.

I went through some similar debate before making our reservations for our wedding. I've always wanted to stay at the Polynesian ever since my last visit to WDW. But 3000 at Poly vs. 1200 at POR is too much money IMO. Plus, as our wedding right now falls in the blackout period for FD next year, I'm still hoping some sort of deal will come out and allow us to save even more money for extra treats like dining experiences, Segway tours and maybe an off-site day to Universal for Harry Potter.

Me & my fiance as well are having a disneymoon for 08/28/2011-09/04/2011. usually we stay in the value ones to save money but for our Honeymoon we wanted to choose a better hotel for our special occasion. We wanted to stay @ saratoga springs but you can't book until the new year but based on the pricing of the other hotels in the same value it seems pretty pricey. we are deffinitely doing the meal plan.. we wanted to do a 5 day park hopper.. so im thinking maybe jumping down to a moderate hotel would be a best interest. :surfweb:

We are staying Oct 18-27 at CBR for our Disneymoon. At first my husband wanted Poly also because of its tropical theme. I could not see spending 2k extra, when we are saving to move back to Alaska in 2011. Since the CBR is also a tropical theme, we decided on this, and in no way what so ever do I feel like I settled. We went for 9 day park hopper, deluxe dining, and only spent 3500 with an extra 300 gift card! I think we def made out!
