I’m planning a road trip and trying to decide between visiting Charleston or Hilton Head. Was looking at Disneys DVC hotel at Hilton Head as a place to stay. Is it nice? It’ll be in March so not really season for water activities. Are there other things to do around the hotel in colder weather? I’ve been to Disneys Vero Beach, is it similar in vibe to that hotel?

We went there in March 2020. The weather was a bit chilly for outdoor activities, but we managed to bundle up and take a stroll along the beach.

Hilton Head is not like Vero Beach. Hilton Head is far from the shore and doesn’t have much of a lobby.

IMO, Vero Beach is much better.

Yes. We’ve been to Hilton Head several times in the winter and enjoyed swimming in the pools and walking on the beach. We also did a marsh walk with a CM. Day trips into Savannah or Charleston aren’t too hard either.

Thanks! That’s a bummer I like vero lol. Is it near anything in Hilton Head? I’ve never been there before and we are going with our toddler. I’m ok with cold weather, actually hoping for some I live in Florida so don’t get much

Is a marsh walk something you can do with a toddler? And it wasn’t too cold for the pools? Is the hotel spread out with a lot of places to walk there?

Not sure about toddlers on the marsh walk. I did it back in 2007.

Most of the time the pools where warm enough to swim in but we were visiting from Oregon several of those times.

There are places to walk around the resort grounds and it’s not too far to walk to the nearby shopping and dining.

I was there this January (the points chart is ridiculous in January). We were a group of five adults. The vast majority said they wouldn't even bother going back in summer they enjoyed winter so much. We finally got to enjoy a Disney resort without rushing around to theme parks...sang campfire songs with the CMs and made s'mores, played trivia at the pools, took a nature walk at the beach, rode bikes all over the island. Heck, you can even get Dole Whip and Mickey waffles.

The pool decks will close if the air temps drop below a certain point, and this was the case our first day there. Once they reopened, we stuck to the hot tub but there were people using the pools both at the resort and the Beach House. I don't remember any age restrictions on our nature walk, but it would have been doable for a toddler. Very relaxed pace with lots of stops; basically we got set loose to explore and then the CM would explain the fun stuff people came across.

FWIW, we were planning on day trips to Savannah and Charleston. We didn't take either. Loved the resort too much to leave!

People have different preferences, but we LOVE Disney's DVC hotel at HHI. We just returned from 12 nights there, and wish we could have stayed longer. We haven't stayed at Vero, but we have family who has, and they love Vero (actually, now they live in the town since they retired), but they just like HHI, and haven't had the desire to visit there for a while. Vero is right on the ocean-that's it's big draw, the resort at HHI is on a marsh, and more focused on low-country nature. Although Vero is kind of off by itself, and has a couple of restaurants. the HHI resort is very close to nearby restaurants (some within walking distance) and stores. March is a great time for biking, walking on the beach (HHI's beaches are great for both, and there are lots of bike paths around the island), and for miniature golf or regular golf. I will admit though that right now, the HHI resort is in need of its refurbishment, not due until summer.2023.

I would recommend checking out the disney hilton head islands owners/lovers group thread. You can see alot of information and reviews on it.

Hilton Head is located with a marina on one side and marsh on the other. Marsh view and birds are beautiful. You can walk to the marina where there are a variety of shops and restaurants. There is a shuttle bus that will take you back and forth to the beach/beach house. Hilton Head is bike friendly and you can rent bikes to ride about the island. Disney has the pool, basketball court, shuttle board, bocce, putting green etc. It's a laid back resort. Needs some refurbishment, but that's on the list for 2023.

We often go in February. We swim in a heated pool, eat out a LOT, play cornhole, walk along the beach, visit Savannah. Note that we are in our mid 50s with grown children and being at HHI in February makes us feel young - We are often the youngest people in a restaurant. For us, its warmer than Minnesota in February, even if it isn't warm - and its humid - which Minnesota ISN'T in the winter. Its a place retired people go in Winter to play golf. We like it a lot, but I'm not sure I'd vacation there with a toddler.

I like HHI much better than VB. It has a great low-country vibe, paths through trees with hanging moss kind of place. It is walkable or bikeable to restaurants, grocery stores, the beach (about a mile but you can also drive or shuttle). We rent bikes (they have kiddie seats) and go all over the island. My grandkids love, love, love fishing and crabbing off the marsh pier right on campus. We see all kinds of seabirds, dolphin, etc. Savannah is a day trip.

We live in Savannah and use our dvc points for a few weekends a year to visit this resort. I’d buy here if it made financial sense because it feels like home to us. LOVE this place! It’s our favorite dvc to vacation with our kids.
