We just came back from spending the weekend at Six Flags Great Adventure for my DD's cheerleading competition. My family is now spoiled by Disney! My 2 younger DD's were is desparate search for Mickey and friends....my 2 year old couldn't understand why he wasn't there!

I stepped on a wad of gum and the grounds were very dirty! Something you NEVER see at Disney. The employees were not that helpful either, another thing you don't (or hardly ever) see at Disney. We stayed about 30 miles from the park in a very nice community but the hotel just couldn't compare to our home away from home!

The traffic on the ride home was horrendous!!! We spent nearly 4 hours just trying to get over the George Washington bridge!! How do you NY/NJ people do it???

We did have fun and my DH's team did great (we had to leave before the awards so don't know how they actually finished). On the drive home my DH asked when our next Disney trip was....the countdown is now on...

Friends always ask us if we are bored with Disney yet!!! The answer is NO. How can one get bored with awesome accomodations, lots of fun, a multitude of things to do for everyone and the next 41 years paid for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We live in NJ and have been to Six Flags only once. We have also been to Sesame Place a couple of times. They are both OK, but nothing like Disney. Now we basically do not go anywhere because in my mind money spent anywhere is a waste...I could save that money for Disney...maybe I'd get there sooner...etc.

My poor children haven't even been to the Bronx Zoo or the Jersey Shore in years. Nothing compares to Disney for me and I just get disappointed.

I agree, Disney is a tough act to follow. You become so spoiled by the immaculately kept grounds when you visit lesser parks it's very disappointing.

I know many people have asked us about visiting WDW so often and the cost involved. We feel that "you get what you pay for". :)

I am going on my 100th trip to WDW soon and that is the question I always get. Things are constantly being changed at WDW and thats what makes it a great vacation spot. Plus it's central to Florida and other attractions. I hope for another 100.

In '99 we took our 16 & 19 yr olds & two teenage friends. They are at an age where thrill rides are what they want. They aren't impressed by WDW the way young kids and adults are. Kinda like Santa Clause is great for young kids & parents. If Disney builds another theme park, I would like to see it be a thrill rider's paradise. I think Disney is losing out to Busch Gardens,Islands of Adventure,Cedar Pt, Six Flaggs, etc. As for the GW bridge, our oldest attends NU in Boston and we've made that trip tooooo many times.

KNWVIKING,

The rides at Six Flags were great! I even went on Nitro!!! (My oldest calls me a whimp!) I wasn't trying to put down Six Flags just to say that we are "spoiled" by Disney.

Is the GW bridge always like that??? It took us 9 hours from Exit 7A on the NJ Turnpike to go just 7 miles north of Boston!!!! We sometimes drive to Disney and go by way of The Tapenzee bridge...we would have died had we reached the GW bridge on the way home from Disney and got in that traffic!!!

And I thought the traffic in Boston was bad...

I do have to agree with Disney adding more "thrill rides". My oldest is only 9 and she absolutely loves them!

The Sunday after Thanksgiving we had to drive my son back to NU.It took 4 hrs to get from the TP toll booth to the GW booth. Usually we hit it VERY early or VERY late and it's not too busy. Tapenzee is about 30 miles longer trip, but it is a more relaxing trip then I-95 thru the Bronx. As for Six Flaggs- it won't hurt my feelings if people want to put it down,I've only been there once & don't really ever plan on going back,(and I understand you weren't putting it down:-).I prefer Wildwood.

I can't dispute your observation concerning the cleanliness of WDW v. Six Flags. There really is no comparison there. That having been said, however, the thrill rides there are amazing and my children enjoy the atmosphere there as well with the WB characters. There is also some savings when you purchase a season pass, so I have done that as well.

As for the GWB, since I live in its shadow, I can tell you that the easiest way to deal with it is to avoid it on the weekends. The Tappan Zee is a 30 minute diversion, but it is through pretty countryside and will have you headed to MA must faster than attempting to drive through the Bronx. ;)

We live within 10 miles of Six Flags Over Texas. We had been there a few times before going to WDW. After WDW, my kids, then 10 and 13, said they would not want to go to Six Flags again. It was just too dirty and smelly compared to WDW. (However, I have coaxed them back to Six Flags at Christmas time a few times)

I took my grandaughter to Six Flags in Gurnee, IL last year, and she had a real good time. Of course, she's 5 and has a good time no matter where I take her. But the customer service in that park was a cut above Taco Bell (the ultimate measure of bad service), the park was very dirty, and the costumes on the WB characters were cheesy.

In fact, after meeting Daffy Duck, she said "Hey, he's got a big zipper on his back! That's not Daffy!" That's something that wouldn't have happened at WDW. She'll eventually figure it out, or someone will spoil it for her, but it won't be the WDW characters' fault.

I live in NJ as well and have been going to Six Flags Great Adventure since I was 6 years old (33 now) I take my kids there now and I still enjoy many of the thrill rides. It can be a fun park, but I honestly don't think you can really make a comparisson between the two parks as I think they are so completely different.

My family would prefer to go to Disney over Great Adventure any day though. No other place seems to have that magic. And Disney is much more than a place to go on rides. It's the rides, the shows, the parades, the resorts, the restuarants and so many other fun and interesting things to do that really puts it in a category all it's own.

We were at my DDs Cheerleading Competition at Great Adventure on Sunday. Luckily we only live about forty minutes away and didn't have to worry too much about traffic. We did have to wait over an hour in line just to order some food and then the first ride we tried to go on broke down. Bathroom were (as my DD called them) skanky!! Oh,take me to the World!!!

You can not compare the 2! I used to love Six Flags, that was before I went to WDWD as an adult. I too am spoiled of the cleanliness of the park and friendliness of the staff! which is part of why I now own DVC! However I will say that I love thrill rides as well, so will probably return to Six flags.

As for the GWB, I work 5 minutes from there, and wait, what is that I see outside my window on Rte 4? Oh, it's only traffic heading to the bridge! LOL! I take the Parkway South Home, and it's also NO joy! Especially on a Friday in the Summer!!!

Msdisney53,

We must have been at the same competition. Boy were those girls HOT! A few on my DD's team got sick. They came in 5th in the Jr. Allstar Small Division. (I just found out.) We left before the awards to head home. I was so proud of her. It's her first year and she is only 9!! Just call me a proud mom!

How did you DD do?

I did enjoy Nitro, the only thrill ride I ever went on. I am more a Peter Pan type person....LOL

We are also spoiled by Disney.
When i was a teen I worked at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg VA
That is the only place that comes close to being as clean as Disney( I mean all Busch Gardens/Sea Worlds)

We are very spoiled by Disney! We live in Tampa and we used to live about 5 minutes from Busch Gardens and about an hour from Disney. We have been to Busch Gardens before and we love thrill rides. During the 2 years we lived in that part of Tampa, we went to Disney about 40 - 50 times. We went to Busch Gardens 0 times. We now live 20 minutes further west and still go to Disney a lot and still haven't made it back to Busch Gardens. One of my buddies is also a Disney Freak and he got some Fla Res. pass to IOA (Islands of Adventure) last year and he said it was very disappointing to Disney. The rides were more high tech, but the park wasn;t as clean, the employees weren't nearly as nice, and it just didn't have that certain feeling you get at Disney. We also prefer staying onsite as opposed to offiste, even if it costs way more, b/c you just can't beat the Disney experience and being on property. Now that we own in the DVC (for 1 year now, hooray!), we will stay onsite at least 2 -3 times a year. DVC and Disney rule!!

Rosemary,Yes we were at the same competion. My DDs are also Junior Prep All Stars. We should have been in small division(18 girls)but we weren't. The girls were great but they didn't place. Did they compete Sat. or Sun? Our team is All Shore All Star Sharks. My DDs are 9 (as of 4/25) and 10. It is also their first year. What is the name of your DD team. Our last competion is May 5th at HersheyPark? Are you going?
