Well everybody I got this in my email this morning. Guess Disney knows a good thing when they see it All I can say is thanks Lori, Ed, Donna, Lauree, Malcolm, Brooke, Heather, Crystal, Janice, Roy, Michelle, and Gary. It stareted on Sunday May 13th and it was almost a whole year.

Let's hope they can improve upon our Friday night dream.

All-

Please share this release with your cast members and guests.

Launching Friday, March 22, 2002, Disney is pleased to announce Mickey's Pin Trading Nights each and every Friday evening at Disney's Contemporary Resort from 7pm - 10pm. We invite all Disney pin traders young and old, veterans and those just starting out, to come out and meet other Disney Pin Traders in a good'ol fashion trade meet. In the past, Disney Pin Traders have met on their own regularly to trade pins, share stories and mingle amongst other pin enthusiasts, but we'll add some more fun.

We'll have a "Kids Under 14 Trading Zone" where only kids will be allowed to trade with other kids and Cast Members. Say "bye" to Mom and Dad and join us in the Kids only area and discover that hard to find pin or just make a new pin trading friend. Also, we'll have a resident Disney Pin Trading Expert to assist guests in their pin trading knowledge as they make their trades. We'll have additional tables and chairs set up to accommodate our Pin Trading guests.

To insure a great experience for all our guests, we will have some additional trading guidelines in additional to our regular pin trading guidelines. Guests will be asked to only bring in 1 pin trading bag per guest. All pin trading bags must be in the possession of the pin trading guest at all times. All pin trades must be a one pin for one pin exchange. If you have a super rare pin you are looking to get several pins for, leave that one home for this night of trading. All guests should follow our established pin trading etiquette at all times.

We are looking forward to kicking off a whole new Disney Pin Trading experience, Mickey's Pin Trading Nights, starting this March 22, 2002 at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Hope to see you there!
Thanks

First a phone call from Jim Green himself yesterday, then a follow up e mail..at least they showed
some thoughtfulness...

Well that gives us more interaction and pin trading time..

Donna

Does the Kids Zone mean that kids can't trade with adults, or just that that Zone is "kids only"? Last time I was there, some kids sought me out, asked to see my pins ( very nicely), and we spent a good amount of time sprawled on the floor enjoying each others pins and making some mutually happy trades. I would hate to have a healthy adult-kid exchange like this be "forbidden". ????
What is with the one pin book rule? I really enjoy seeing other people's pins, seeing pins "in the flesh" that I have only seen on Pinpics, and admiring collections. Why is more than one pin book a bad thing?
Confused...

What does this mean for the Poly on Saturday night? Will that continue as is? I certainly hope so.

I don't mind the "kids zone" as long as kids can trade outside the zone too. (There are some kid traders I wouldn't trade with on a bet.....because I'm afraid of being sharked by them!)

I can live with the one pinbook rule, but I know that would seriously upset others. So, I'm taking my pinpals' side on that one.

And finally, "one pin for one pin?" That stinks. So much for a chance to get something special.

Well if they mess with the Poly, I guess it's back to DTD for us.

The pay stunk anyway, and now I'll have more time to trade... Yes I'll actually be able to trade pins go figure.

Anyway I'm sick and going to bed.

Oh that pin for pin trade thing its got to be a hose, who could inforce such a thing, not buying it nope.

They would have inforced it at Epcot since that is a disney run thing right.:p

This is el Stinko! I don't like it at all.

The whole thing I liked about the Contemporary meets are that they are NOT official. It's really a neat idea, when you think about it;*All* of these people met here via word-of-mouth to share their common interest.

I've only been to the Contemporary meet twice, so I'm not an expert on this at all. But this is not an event that needs fixing. There must be some logic behind this decision, but I'm not seeing it. Are they afraid of this getting too big and want to be able to control it before something bad happens?

Will you be able to stay after 10 pm and keep trading? I never even show up until after Illuminations!

I don't like the rules, I don't like the times. This is not giving me a warm fuzzy. (I'm not helping the situation here, an I?)

And who is Jim Green?

Some of these trading restrictions are "interesting." Although I have not yet been to a pin meet on Friday or Saturday night with you all, I am thinking of the trades I have made the last several Tuesday nights at a local Disney Store.

The other night two different families of traders (husband & wife) each brought two pin bags - some pins were traders, some were their keepers. What is wrong with bringing more than one bag? I realize the space is smaller in a TDS than at the Contemporary, but we enjoy sharing & looking at pins with each other.

As for one pin for one pin - I traded two pins for one pin a few weeks ago. I traded away one of the August event pins for two pins. The other guest & I were happy, so why should someone else (Disney) feel they should tell me how many pins I can trade? What about selling a pin? Another Tuesday night a guest had a state pin I did not have. We agreed on a selling price & I bought the pin.

We'll have to see how this all plays out ...

Will there still be a trading night the Friday before? (March 15th). We were planning on attending it, and I just wanted to check.

Also, would my three year old get bored there? My other two kids are ages 10 and 7 and they will be doing the trading. Thanks!!

I believe that most of thoughts and opinions stated on this thread are probably true to a certain extent. Yes, we sometimes get loud and yes we do take up parking spaces. I believe there are other reasons involved that most traders are not aware of.
There are several people that are running around these events that claim to be "hosts and hostesses" (not Disney cast members) and think they are in charge. I've been told that they have on several occasions overstepped their non-authority and asked people to leave these meets. I've also overheard that several times Disney security officers have been call by these "hosts and hostesses" and instructed that certain people should be removed. Disney cannot have these people telling their employees what to do. In addition, the "hosts and hostesses" are bad mouthing certain people about the manner in which they trade. If one or two of these people don't like you or care for your trading habits, you are branded with the shark title and banished for the meet. These "hosts and hostesses" are causing Disney much more problems then they are worth.
If we are going to post our thoughts and concerns, we really should address all the problems not just one or two problems.

A concerned pintrader.

Hmmmm sounds like to me someone may have been branded a shark or removed from a pin meet.

Speaking from personal experience. I have never met a bunch of nicer people not pin traders, PEOPLE. Even when I was not pin trading I was putting a names to a faces making new friendships. As for Disney is concerned they are trying to keep the guest happy, while at the same time keeping order.

Gee. Was the anonymous, one post, "concerned pintrader" one of the banished one?
Just a thought.
Penny

Sorry, I was never coined a "Shark" and no I was not banished from these meets. I have elected to remove myself from them as I grew tired of the little games and the politics that went one. Some of my best friends still attend these meetings and I am happy for them but I keep my distance. Now that Disney is taking them over, I might just return, if I can get over the one pin bag rule.
Thanks for the time to set this story straight.
Still a concerned pin trader!
