Disney graduation speech

last part:

"A week ago, I thought I would end my speech with a quote from Walt Disney. It seemed appropriate and well thought out. But on Tuesday, I received a very special letter - from myself. Anyone else who was on the X team in the sixth grade did too.

The girl writing the letter was unrecognizable. She asked too many questions and made the wrong assumptions. However, in the last paragraph I finally found a piece of what I would truly call myself. In a handful of sentences, a 12 year old me managed to write what took a 12th grade me pages to say.

The advice is the same.

Halfway through my grade school career, I told myself, "I wish you the best of luck. Success comes only to those that work for it. Don't ponder the past, but look towards the future. Although memories are great, that's all they are. Find the now, and go from there. Good luck."

Congratulations, Class of 2012. I hope you find your happily ever after."

---------------

That's the last of it - I edited out the name of our town, the team she was on, and her own name. Otherwise, that's word for word what she said. As I stated before all spelling errors, typos, and punctuation mistakes are mine.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoying reading the speech. Congratulations to your daughter.

Wow! I just read this out loud to my 2 daughters 8,5 with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. You should be VERY proud.

Like most parents I have big hopes and dreams for my girls. Being a parent is THE hardest job I have ever had without any real instruction manuals. I envision my girls taking this walk in just a few years. It is a scary thought for me and I just think we have a LONG way to go in a very short amount of time. Wonder if you felt what I am feeling now 10 years ago? :worship: Any advice would be greatly appreciated LOL :worship:

My 2 girls are 3 years apart too! Can't give you any advice, except to keep plugging along! When mine were 8 and 5, I was worried that the youngest (the one who made the Disney speech) was going to hate kindergarten and cry. She was a preschool dropout, and we were not sure if she had matured enough for kindergarten ;)

My girls have outdone all my hopes and dreams I had for them. I never thought they would have flourished in high school like they both did. I always made sure they kept busy as little kids - gymnastics, ice skating, dance, girl scouts, soccer, etc. When they got to high school, they decided to join a lot of clubs. Luckily, we have very organized, well supported extracurricular programs at our school. The only regret I have is that they never played a school sport or a band instrument. They are two very small regrets. :)

Everyone's wonderful comments are making my eyes water - I just figured people would get a chuckle out of the Disney theme. I was so nervous when she was giving her speech that I thought the emotions I felt came from nerves, LOL! I mean, I'm her mom, of course I think her speech is great, :lmao:

You all are awesome, thank you so much!

That was awesome! :thumbsup2
Best wishes to her in her future and may all her wishes and dreams come true! :goodvibes

The speech is quite something!!! Was your daughter valedictorian or salutatorian? I'm sure having her give a speech at graduation made you so proud. Congrats!

Salutatorian. She was so determined to make a speech at graduation - her best friend was valedictorian, and another very dear friend was president of the class (for all 4 years - awesome young lady, very, very capable president!). My daughter was ranked 3rd in her class at the end of junior year. She took the hardest class load she could, worked her butt off, and managed to make salutatorian. Sometimes her focus and drive scares me!

What I'm really proud of is that she has accepted being "only 2nd" (her words once, never mine!) in her class - her sister was valedictorian, and for years my youngest has been in the shadow of a pretty driven older sister. Older sister is going into her senior year at MIT, while younger one will attend a smaller liberal arts college. Younger one also was heartbroken when she did not get into her first choice (Bowdoin) but is moving on with grace and a good headlong charge forward. It really helps that her accepted college is very excited to get her, and that makes her feel special.

A Disney moment if I ever read one...your DD has a gift and thank you for sharing it here on the DIS. While she wrote the speech so elequently and beautifully, I hope the beginning, where she states "I was raisedin a family that loves Disney" that you saw the more private , special moment of this. Your family helped her be who she is, be very proud Mom! Well done for raising such a wonderful person that has such terrific future plans!:thumbsup2

That was amazing! And thank you for sharing.

Good luck to your DD. :)

Funny, our Valedictorian spoke about Disney too-- about the themes in Mary Poppins. (Spoonfull of Sugar, Feed the Birds, and a third I didn't hear; I was in charge of the volunteers and it was a shift change.)

I think Disney makes great graduation speeches... I gave mine about Pinocchio.

What an incredible young woman you raised....you should be VERY proud. Her speech brought tears to my eyes as well as goosebumps. Thank you SO much for sharing this with us!

I think that is the case for most parents. I know my Dad said something similar about mine when he went to work and found a few other people talking about it (they had grandkids/nieces/nephews etc in my graduating class) they didn't realize I was his daughter so they were just talking about the speech.

I think most of the students liked the other speakers better though, his was really funny instead of sentimental. Basically he tried to fit in every graduation speech cliche he had ever heard. So we had one speech for the students and one for the parents!

What a wonderful speech; I truly enjoyed it! Thank you so much for sharing with us, and many congrats to your daughter. You must be so proud! :goodvibes

My DD graduated also. This speech is wonderful, it brought tears to my eyes. Time went by so fast and I can't believe my DD has graduated. I am going to get DD to read it, she love WDW. Good luck to your DD!

I agree, the time did go by so fast - just thinking back when they were little - wasn't that just yesterday?

Congratulations to your daughter too, and wishing her the best of luck in the future!

That is just wonderful!!!! Thanks for sharing!!! And congrats!!!

Just got her college tuition bill - shhhhh, it was a few thousand less than we expected, and I'm making reservations for a mom/daughter WDW trip and putting the plans inside the Mickey Waffle Iron I got her for graduation...
