Disney gives gay couples 'Fairy Tale Weddings'

This is spectacular. I've never wanted to have a ceremony before - but this will be the thing to change that. Now I just need to find the girl...:thumbsup2

:dance3: :cheer2: :grouphug: :woohoo: :woohoo: :yay:

WHOOO HOO HOO!!!

Okay, I heard this on the radio this morning and almost slammed on my brakes in traffic. Local morning radio personality was talking about it, in a neutral to positive way, just kind of brought it up as filler between the last song and the traffic report. I didn't believe it, I wanted her to say it again, but screaming at the radio - "Say it again!" doesn't really work. I haven't been on Disboards in a while - life and all that, but as soon as I got a chance I hopped on here to make sure the news I heard was real. It's real! And after reading all these happy posts I'm all teary eyed. Its a great way to start the weekend!! Now to figure out where I'm going to get the $8,000+ to plan my wedding!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

((sorry for the babble... I just needed someone to share the excitement w/!))

Hey all,
First Congrats on the DFTW!!!!!!!!!! Second, start joining us on our wedding/honeymoon boards with your planning journals and trip reports (if you are comfortable with it of course). I know I am excited to read about it, and I am sure all the other DFTW couples would too.

:cheer2: About Time!

In so many ways Disney leads the industry but this has always felt like an area where they were dragging their heels in with a determination to continue discriminating.

Congratulations to Maggie & Gabby, and Rick & Joe and all others planning ceremonies.

We already had our big ceremony at home in our church but maybe we'll get to see you drive by in the carriage someday.

This is great news!!! I always knew it would happen but I thought it would be a few years away. Thank you Disney! I'm solo but I hope the couples in our happy home with share their planning efforts with us. I can't wait to see who will be first.

All the sites are buzzing about this news. My partner and I now have to choose between DLR or WDW. Most of our gay Disney friends are now seriously thinking of saving up for a ceremony at one of the resorts.

Hey there Wendy pal-o-mine. Actually, after I posted that, I marched into the living room where Joe was watching CSI and announced that we were getting married in Disney in 2010 for our 20th. He looks at me and just quietly said, "Why wait so long?"

I have the best partner ever!

I will have to agree with you on that - Joe is the best!

sorry i got bored...

Hi guys and gals!

Just popping in to say Hi and Congrats. Happy wedding planning to all of you lucky and brides and grooms finally able to plan a Disney wedding :bride:

I just heard the news and I'm so happy about it. It's about damn time, that's all I have to say.

MouseSavers.com currently has a small section on Disney weddings, but for the past year we've been developing a massive Disney wedding site that will be rolling out very soon, called MouseWeddings.com.

The new site will definitely be referencing this great news from Disney! It's gonna mean some rewriting (and some new artwork), but that's a good thing.

I hope you'll all come visit when the new site opens -- hopefully in the next two weeks. We're working as fast as we can behind the scenes to get it done. :)

That's great news, Mary! Thank you for your support and inclusiveness.

Rick, you and your Joe are going to be marvelous in your WDW ceremony! So then? Shall we start planning? :teeth:

Tuxedos men? White, oyster, black, pearl? Armani? Perry Ellis? Versace? :teeth:

Sorbet on a glass (ice) slipper brought in to the room by a line of servers in black tuxedos to the tune of "Be Our Guest!" Fabulous!

Dried flower petals. Shimmering light through a window with the castle as a back drop.

Violinist? Disney music? Classical? A little of both?

Cake? OOOOOH! YES!!! THE CAKE!!!! White? Chocolate? Cheesecake? Raspberry? Lemon?

Number of guests (you nearly have to pay by the guest, by the way)!

"THE Carriage" or a lovely horse drawn open carriage a la Central Park?

Colors? Will it matter? You know, that whole color cooridination bit of weddings...

Flowers? What sort?

OH! IMPORTANT STUFF!!! Will you both come down the aisle together? Hand in hand or arm in arm?

GOSH!!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE SO EXCITING!!!!!!

You may need the short years between 2007 and 2010 to get all the planning done!

Wow...that is amazing news. It's always been my dream to have a fairy tale wedding at Disney World, but I thought it would never happen. I plan on proposing to my girlfriend in front of the castle in November, maybe now we can go back for our wedding

I just saw this article online and imediately came here to see what everyone was posting. I am now even happier about our decision to spend our honeymoon at Disney World. I had been looking forward to it but had mentioned to Mandie how disapointed I was that we couldn't get "just married" pins to wear in the parks and announce our celebration to everyone. I wonder if they will be rolling out some new girl/girl and guy/guy pins for all the gay and lesbian couples planning weddings and honeymoons there? While we can't afford to drop 8 grand right now it's nice to know that we'll feel even more welcome there after our little wedding this summer. Congrats to all the other couples now planning their dream weddings!

Would anyone like to do an interview about the gay marriages at Disney? Our TV station is doing a story tonight and we would like to talk to a couple either in person if you're in Southern California or over the phone if you're farther away.

Thanks so much.

It looks like we found a couple locally. Thank you. I'll post the link to the video later tonight if anyone is interested in seeing the story.

WOO-HOO!!!!!!

First off: HUGE CONGRATS TO MAGGIE, RICK, LONGHAIR BEAR, AND ANYBODY ELSE THAT I INADVERTENTLY MISSED!!!!!

I was driving to work this am, heard the news on NPR, and honestly I totally teared up BIG TIME. FINALLY!!!!!    I now believe that positive change IS inevitable and even better things are on the horizon. Here I go...getting all verklemp again. :grouphug: How come the DIS doesn't have a smiling crying emoticon?????

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!!!!
