Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct board to post this on but I have a gift card question.

I'm going solo in December and I'd like to purchase some Disney Gift Cards to use instead of cash in the parks.

Can I have the gift card linked back to my magic band?
If I use the gift card at restaurants for tips and such, do you get a balance of what is left on the card on your receipt?

Thank you.

You can't link a gift card to your band, but you can set up to charge to your room then pay the balance off at the front desk using the gift card. We did this last fall, and went every other day to pay it so they didn't charge it to my credit card before I could use the gift card. Worked great.

Yes, your receipt will show the balance. But if you lose track, you can call the number on the back of the card or look up the balance on disneygiftcard .com (you'll need to create an account to do this).

You can actually look up the balance anytime without having to register or log in. Just enter the numbers on the back of the card.

Any thoughts on what is easier? Either charge back to the room and then pay every couple of days or just use the gift card in the parks?

I've never charged back to the room before so I don't know if it is a process or not.

Charging back you will just scan your magic band and enter your pin. Sign the receipt and add the tip if necessary.

The only difference is if you aren't great at keeping track of how much you have spent charging back might not be the most efficient for you. You can always call or check into the desk and ask what you're total is thus far but if you don't do that you need to add your receipts as you go.

I don't know that one is any easier than the other. Using the MB is convenient if you don't want to be digging around for a GC or keep track of its balance. Using the GC is great if you're staying offsite, or want to keep careful track of your spending. I take a GC with me when we go to F&W. I punch a hole in one corner and then attach it to one of those springy wrist bracelets. It's every bit as convenient as a MB but I can't spend more than what is one the GC...instant spending control!

I didn't realize this was an option! Thanks for sharing this.
