My fiance and I recently got a large number of Disney gift cards for our wedding shower in anticipation of our honeymoon next month! We are planning to use these for souvenirs/tips/etc. while we are at Disney. My fiance looked online and seemed to think you could not put these gift cards as one of your cards on file for your account, which would make sense if they want a credit card. He said he thought you could pay off what you've charged to your room back at the resort with the gift card at the end of the day though. Does this sound right to anyone? I'm not really familiar with this practice at all since we've never used Disney gift cards. I don't want it to be a hassle, so I'd just as soon carry the cards around with me to use. Any tips on the best way to utilize these? We have a Disney Visa as well and I know we can get some discounts using that, so I don't want to use my gift cards in unnecessary places either! Thanks!

I have seen it both ways stated here (and other places) - I think that they don't charge your card until you reach a certain limit - i know people have suggested putting a card on file and then paying it off at the end of the day.

Good Luck - maybe others will have better information for you

You can't put the gift cards as your card on file for charging purposes. You have to put a credit card down and once it hits the limit, they'll charge the credit card. We went down to the desk every few days and paid the balance with gift cards before it hit the limit. I believe the limits are $500-values, $1000-moderates, $1500-deluxes.

Great to know, thanks FFMickey! We're staying at AKL, and dear god help us if we hit $1500 LOL. That would be good though, since I was originally thinking "what is the 'end of the day'" if we end up being in the parks late and whatnot.

At AKL your credit limit will be $1,500. You can go to the front desk at any time to use your gift cards to pay down the balance. At the end of your stay be sure to go to the desk the night before check out day if you want to use gift cards because any outstanding balance will be charged to the credit card in the early hours of the morning.

Unless this is new policy, we did just the opposite. We put a $500 gift card on the room (no credit card at all). We have also put cash (from traveler's checks) to charge against. The only thing is save the original gift card(s), if you don't use the balance, they will refund to them.

We have not been since 2010, so it is quite possible this has changed.

Congratulations and have fun spending those gifts!
