I am going to Disney next month and my MIL kindly got us some Disney gift cards for Christmas.

Can they be used at the Disney owned and operated restaurants, or can they only be used to purchase merchandise? We will have the QS dining plan and while I am not a big breakfast eater, DH does like to eat 3 meals a day. Can he use the gift card in our resort food court (Pop Century) and get breakfast?

According to this site - I think you should be able to use them, as you mentioned.

I could have just read the website. Duh.

I'm so conditioned to come here for answers to everything that it doesn't always occur to me to look for them myself. :)

I know what you mean - For the past few months, I read DISboards more than the newspaper... lol

We've used them in Disney restaurants (QS and TS). Have a great trip, how nice of your MIL!

They can be used almost everywhere at Disney! We get them to pay for our meals, pay for our room...just about everything!

We've had a few occasions of the smaller food kiosks not reading the cards, saying the card is invalid. Just be sure top have some cash (one kiosk said the gift card was invalid and our debit card didn't work either)

One option you can consider is charging things to your room then use your gift cards to pay off the room charges. You probably want to do that the day before you check out, or earlier if you're about to get close to your charging limit.

This is what we do, and it works out great!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, everyone! DH will be very happy to be able to purchase breakfast for free!!

You can even give them up front as a credit o your room. That's what we do.

Thanks for posting this! I received a couple of giftcards for Christmas too, but I was wondering where in DownTown Disney could they be used...Anyone know?

All over... As long as it is Disney it's fine. The only place its iffy is those carts in the parks. some take them some don't. If you don't use them on your trip you can even use them at the store and online. I used ours to pay for food at the resort, at the bar, carts, gift shops all over... I love the idea of using them to pay off the room charges. Smart! :)

Thank you :)

I'm here now and most of the carts are having trouble taking the gift cards. Always good have either a cc or a little cash as backup.

How can you find which locations are "participating locations"? That website just says at participating locations....not ALL locations.

My boys got quite a few gift cards for Christmas. I know that the LEGO would be a target for them- at least for something. (So many places to choose from!!). Would they work there? Or just the "DISNEY" shops?

Ok....found this, after I posted my question:
The following is an excerpt from the terms and conditions of use for the Disney Gift Card:

At the Walt Disney World® Resort, the Disney Gift Card can be redeemed at select
merchandise, food, ticketing and Guest Service locations, select third party lessees and
Downtown Disney® District Operating Participant locations. The Disney Gift Card can be
redeemed towards payment of a Walt Disney World® Resort Hotel room night or
reservation. Use the Disney Gift Card for reservations or aboard Disney Cruise Line®.
The Disney Gift Card is not accepted, at McDonalds®, Jellyrolls, Rainforest Café®, and
the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

The site said LEGO store at DTD would be accepted. (boys will be glad to hear it!)
