Can you use Disney Gift Cards to pay your onboard bills for the spa, drinks, etc? We are going in January and wondering if we should ask for Disney Gift Cards for Christmas gifts?! Thanks

As noted, you need to go to Guest Services to have the gift cards applied to your onboard account. The only place that's been reported to be able to take gift cards directly (onboard) are the gift shops. All other charges (including excursions) are charged to your onboard account by using your KTTW card.

Thank you for quick replies! Now I am definitely asking for them for Christmas - I am dreaming of my massage already!!!

You can also apply gift cards to your on board account prior to the cruise. I believe it has to be 3 days prior to the departure date and if you are using a travel agent you will have to process through them.

I did that with about $800 in cards before our last cruise. I had no intention of standing at guest services and doing that on my vacation. :)

We put gift cards on our account once onboard. Took all of 2 minutes, tops. You just don't go there when everyone else is having stuff done. We went the second day after seeing the show that night.

I had 16 cards to process, and so I wasn't taking any chances. It took two 5 minute calls to my TA to apply to my onboard account. I was glad I did it that way as I don't recall a time that there weren't a couple of people in line at guest services on my cruise. I didn't go out of my way to check the line, but the times when I passed by there was alays a line

If you go to Disneygiftcard.com before your cruise you can combine up to $1000 onto one card and then just put that card on your onboard account instead of taking a bunch of them. :)

Oh nice! I didn't know about that site. For my upcoming cruise, I used some of the tips and tricks from others to purchase discount Target Gift Cards and then use them in combination with my Red Card to purchase Disney Gift cards with an additional 5% off. I have purchased 96 cards - this would have been a nice option for me to go from 96 cards to 8!

Instead what I did since I'm far enough out from sail date was to open a Disney Vacation Account and load the cards into that system. The win there is I get an additional 2% return on the amount in the form of ... a Disney Gift Card!

All good options for gift card cruisers!

It's a great site! I've been using the gift cards to pay off our cruise so it is nice to only use a few cards instead of a ton! ;)

I'll have to look into the Disney Vacation Account, I didn't know you could use the gift cards, I thought it was automatic withdrawals! :)

Can someone give a little more information as to how to combine all the balances onto 1 card? Is it under transfer balances?

Just load a "main card" (keep that one), then go to transfer balances and put in another card number. Once you've loaded a second card it will ask you if you want to confirm the transfer and give you what the new main cards total will be. :)

We are doing the exact same thing and so far it has worked out seamlessly - We used the DVS to pay for the cruise and the extra funds will be transferred from the DVA to the On board account. I did have one question though- when you received your gift cards from DVA- did you receive them in time to reapply them towards your obc or did you have to take them with you?

Our cruise is in April, and my PIF is Feb 1, I think. I plan on doing the final payment from my DVA around mid Jan, and then requesting the 2% gift card to be shipped at that time. They state the gift card takes 4-6 weeks, so that should give me plenty of time to apply it before the 3 day deadline.

Trust me, the web interface allows you to enter the Gift Card information to apply it to your account. With 96 cards, I calculate that I typed 1536 numbers for the Card Number (16*96), and 768 numbers for the Security Code (8*96), one card at a time for a total of 2304 numbers. :smooth:. That doesn't count the amount of typing done to get the Target Gift Cards loaded into Target. I think I had around 35 target giftcards bought from CardPool and GiftCardZen.
