Disney gift cards and fuel savings

Our Smiths/ Kroger is currently doing a 4x fuel points promotion that ends today. While our cruise is PIF, we need quite a bit to cover excursions, cabana, Remy, tips, etc so I just purchased $1200 in Disney gift cards and got over 5000 fuel points. This translates to $1 off per gallon 5 times. For our 18 gallon tank, that is $18 savings each time we fill up, x5. That's $90 savings on money we would have spent anyway. We have until the end of Sept to use the points, which I know we will with all the driving we do.

Just wondering if this is something anyone else does, and also wanted to tip you off if you have these stores locally that today is the last day to take advantage of it. I would buy more gift cards but I don't think we could use that many fuel points before they expire. You can fill up to 35 gallons at the discounted rate so if you have 2 vehicles and fill them together you could save even more.

Edited to add I purchased cards that allow you to put any amount up to $500 on each card.

Yes, I have and others here too. I make my husband drive his car and we both fill up which equals about $30 worth of savings. If I was even more savvy I would bring a gas can to do the full 35 gallons allowed. Also I am putting the gift cards in a dva to get the $20 perk per thousand on that.

I am only buying $250 or $500 per promotion because I don't want to accidentally let any of the points expire.

Yes. Where I am it's Smith's but they are the same company.

I buy my gift cards at Sam's Club. It's $143 for $150 worth of cards. We use it to pay for the majority of our cruise (knocking about $200 off) and then we have about $1,500 to use on board (saving $70). Not a bad savings!

I bought the target gift cards at kroger and used them to buy disney cards on target.com with the redcard discount. Maximum savings.

I paid for my DCL, Disneyland and WDW trips using Disney gift cards purchased at Kroger so I can get the 4x fuel credit. I have done this so many times that now I am on Krogers Customer Appreciation list
which means I am notified one week before the 4x fuel points promo is announced to the public... now have 2 weeks to purchase my Disney Gift cards. I just purchased my gift cards to be used on my onboard account for my cruise leaving this Monday to Alaska to pay for excursions etc. Plus they make great gifts to friends who are going on a Disney trip.
