I've been reading posts on the gift cards both on the Disboard and other blog posts and want to be sure I understand before I move forward.

Okay - so if I get a Target Red Card (That's their credit card that they always offer me I believe?) than I get back 5% on all my purchases - is that correct? Or do I just that 5% off the purchase immediately?

Then if I start having prescriptions filled at Target I also get 4% back in the form of a rebate to be used in the store?

I then also have the option to purchase at SAMS Club for about $2 less than face value or at our grocery store for no discount but money back on gas purchases (driving a Suburban that's always nice too :) ).

So, I save money on the gift cards and turn around and give my TA the gift card numbers to pay for the trip. So far all I've found are $25 and $50 cards -- on a $9000 trip I'll have to be buying a lot of gift cards. Is it possible to get larger denominations?

Yes that's pretty much it. The Target discount is always 5% on everything, the 5% pharmacy reward is for one day only and can be combined with the 5% red card discount.

I will take this in steps:
1. At Target you can buy 25.00 or 50.00 Disney Gift cards ( considered entertainment cards) and save 5% each time you use you red card( target cc or dc). There is something with Pharmacy where you can get 5% coupon after filling 5 Rx's this coupon is a 1 time use for each coupon.
2. Sam's club does sell Disney gc slightly below value but I've only ever seen around holidays. I've bough 50.00 and 100.00 cards at various times.
3. At my grocery store I can find 4 pack of 25.00 cards, 25.00 card, 50.00 card and most of time I can find one where you choose amount 5.00-500.00.

Once you get your gift cards give numbers to your TA and they can call and apply cards to your vacation ( be sure and keep cards until after vacation is over because if they have to do a refund they will return money to cards.

Disney gift cards never expire, can be reloaded at Disney stores, Disney World and Disneyland locations, but I've never seen ways to do it over phone or outside of Disney owned locations. You can use Disney gift cards at 98% of places on property that are Disney owned/operated. I've used to pay for food, gifts, my AP renewal, my room charges.

Your target redcard does not have to be a credit card, you can opt for a debit card as well. We usually buy our disney GCs at Target using the redcard or buy them at BJs. They seem to give a little better deal than Sams IMO. Good luck! And if you're spending $9000 on one trip, you might as well look into the DVC.

I've seen larger denominations, including "name your own amount" Disney GCs at my local grocery store. However, I have only seen $25 and $50 Disney GCs at my Target stores.

The Target REDCard is a straight 5% off of your purchases whenever you use the card. It is not a one-time deal. The Pharmacy Rewards 5% discount is sent whenever you fill 5 qualifying prescriptions. It can only be used for 1 day at the B&M stores and there will also be a code which can be used once online. The Pharmacy Rewards can be used in conjunction with your REDCard, however the online Pharmacy Rewards cannot be applied to GC purchases.

Thanks everyone!

I'll be checking into the Red Card then. DH doesn't like CC, debit cards or even checks for that matter - he's a cash guy - but w/ the discount it sounds too good.
