My friend has a Disney gift card. She tried to use it all over Disney PLUS at the airport told her that she can only use it at a Disney Store (like in the mall) or online. They told her that Disney Store and Disney World Resort are different things. She had called ahead of time and the Disney Store said she could use it at WDW but no one would take it! What gives?
Now I'm nervous to buy g/c's before we go in case this happens!

Where did she get the card? There are certain gift cards that are Disney Store/Outlet useable only.

You can sometimes find them on Raise.com designated as such. Sometimes Sams has them in a pack of regular gift cards as a bonus.

As far as I'm aware they should be clearly marked.

I've seen them as the bonus in the pack of regular Disney gift cards at Sam's. They are clearly marked as for The Disney Store. Regular Disney gift cards say they can be used in the parks, resorts, cruise line, and in the store. Don't hesitate to buy the regular ones. Sorry your friend had an issue.

Where did she get the card and how much was on it? I know that merchandise credits from the Disney Store will not work at Disney World. The odd amounts are usually a dead giveaway.

Yes, there are different cards...for Disney store or Disneystore online and for Disney parks, resorts etc...Read the back before purchasing, it will say whether it is good for the store only or for the parks, resorts, etc...I recently purchased one in Disney store for use at Disney world park for my granddaughter's kindergarten graduation for her to save and use for Disney trip but, it was making a hole in her pocket and she used it to buy something in the Disney store already...LOL

Ah. So confusing. So, if I buy a gift card at Target are those are for the parks right?

Do tell about the Sam's bonuses!! I have not seen them. Certain times of year? Specially marked packages?

Most Disney gift cards are good at WDW or Disney Store - if you have been buying them at Target/Kroger/etc, you will be fine. Your friend probably ended up with one of the bonus ones that are only good at Disney Store.

I noticed in another Budget Board thread someone posted a discounted gift card site. The price was good and I came thisclose to ordering a few before I noticed they were marked "Disney Store".

I haven't seen the bonus pack in a few years. It was a free $10 Disney store gift card with each $100 Disney gift card purchased at Sam's. The current offer at Sam's is $150 in Disney cards for $142.98. I'll take it.

There are two different giftcards available for purchase "Disneystore gift cards" and "Disney giftcard shop*dine*stay*play" cards that I purchase at Target, and are clearly labeled. I once bought a discounted card, and was disappointed to see it was for Disneystore. I lived and learned. BTW, I have also been able to get Disney shop*dine*stay*play gift cards at Walgreens, in case you want to just see how it is clearly labeled and don't have Target nearby.
