So, I have been stockpiling Disney gift cards in preparation for our upcoming trip in August. If I have a couple of extra bucks, I will go to the grocery store and buy either a $25 or $50 card. I did this with the intention of going to the Disney store and using all of the smaller gift cards to buy one big gift card to bring on vacation with us.
Long story short, I get to the Disney store and I am told that you can't use each individual gift card to buy one large card- the CM told me it was a system "glitch". Looks like I will be bringing multiple cards to the World!
Has anyone had a similar experience?

I think that's a standard policy--I did the same thing with Home Depot gift certificates last year--I wanted to get my daughter and her husband a Weber gas grill. I couldn't buy a gift card with my gift cards but the smaller denominations ended up working just the same. (I also have a stack of Disney gift cards that I'll use this weekend when I check into WL!)

Thanks for the post! i've been planning to do the same! oh well :)

I have called the number on the back and had them transfer money from one card to another. The CM said they don't do it often, but it can be done.
I would suggest you just pick one card and transfer the balances to that one. And multiple phone calls will probably be required. I just wanted to add two together and the CM said that would be fine, but not like 5 or 6 into 1.

One possible issue with using multiple cards is that the computers at the parks can't use more than 2 or 3 cards for any transaction. Supposedly the systems at the hotels can use more than one card.

This was posted by Cheshire Figment a CM that works in ticketing at TL.

We had multiple cards combined at WDW last fall. My DDRDs were about to expire, so I bought a GC, but we already had one that was an actual gift and a Food and Wine GC. Just had everything transferred to the F&W GC. We were able to use it at F&W and anywhere else that accepted Disney GCs. And just as an FYI, the CM at our local Disney Store got really excited when I used our F&W GC at her store. :)

Like PP said, at the Disney Stores, GCs can't be combined onto just one gift card, however the gift cards sold at the Disney Stores can be reloaded. If you put just $5.00 on it, you can add more money to it at any time. Most people don't do this so if you go to a store to have this done, there's a good chance that the CM may have to call for a manager, but don't be alarmed because it can be done. :)

you can put them on you key to the world card for charging priviledges instead of a credit card. that way you dont have to lug around bunches of cards when you check in just give them the cards you want to use and they will add them to your account... upon check out they will give you any remaining funds in cash.. for me if i have anything over 20$ then i keep a few bucks for the airport and go to the gift shop and add the rest to a new gift card.. that way ive already started to save for my next disney vacation!

its a common retail practice not to be able to use GCs for GCs, technically a GC is merchandise not a tender if that makes sense, and its an unreturnable merchandise often so its like trying to return something that is final sale to get a credit to put towards a GC someone gave you if that makes any sense. i no longer sell GCs but i used to work at a retail chain and it was often a nighmare after xmas b/c people would want to return GC they got or have them split into two to use as regifts or combine. there was no way to do this in the system and it often resulted in fights.

You can definitely combine Disney gift cards. Just call the number on the back & they will combine all of them onto just one. I just did at least 10 a few weeks ago.

I was able to combine a bunch last fall at guest services in Epcot.

I may be the odd one out, but I prefer having a few cards with different amounts.

This way I can have one and DH can have 1, this way if we split up, we each can have one.

And if 1 gets lost, our whole trip isn't ruined (although I think they can be replaced if you have copies and proof of purchace)

I also would get some from the grocery store when we had some extra money, $25 here or there wasn't that bad. Now we have about $540 in cards with those I have picked up and those family have given us for gifts.

i was doint the same thing with the gift cards. glad to know that they can be put onto one when we get there
