I was just poking around to see what they go for and most, if not all are going for more than the total on the card. These are not collectable cards or anything either. Just your typical, can get it at any big box store card. Am I missing something or are people that dumb?

I always wondered the same. The only logical thing I can think of is if people sell, and have money in their PayPal account, its easier to buy them on eBay than cash out? Some may not realize that Disney store takes paypal:confused3

I've wondered before if it's a scam... For example you could sell me a gift card on ebay- it wouldn't matter what I pay you for the card because I receive the card and tell ebay it was empty. Then ebay gives me a refund. Or if you didn't put signature tracking on it... "never got it." Ebay tends to side with the buyer if you don't have good proof. That is what I came up with when I started considering selling things like that.

That or they get some significant level of rewards through some program that it works for them but I don't know of any rewards that good.

Maybe they have a discount code from Ebay? I know I've gotten them a couple of times.

I've sold gift cars on Ebay a handful of times and not had issues. I've had a couple of people who bought them tell me they had been given Ebay gift cards and wanted to buy something that they could get cheaper at the store my gift cards were for than what they would pay on Ebay so essentially it was a gift card swap to them. I also had one person say they had a coupon code and another say they had Ebay Bucks to use.

Probably because they have ebay bucks to spend, and they get some for their purchase. Right now they are giving triple ebay bucks, not sure if GCs are included.

Gift cards often sell on eBay for more than face value; this has been discussed on this board already a number of times. I don't know why they do; knowing eBay, I've always assumed it's some kind of scam. I would never buy a gift card on eBay.

some are using up ebay coupons/ giftcards..others are straight out moving money from skimmed credit-cards or paypal accounts.
once its on a 2nd hand gift card very hard to trace.

If they pay $60 for a $50 gift card, but then dispute the charge with PayPal and say they never got it, or that it had insufficient funds, then the seller has very little recourse.

Another, less sketchy option, is that they are purchased by international buyers who benefit in some way by paying with a gift card. For iTunes, for example, using a US iTunes giftcard lets you buy items from the US iTunes store that may not be available in your regular countries iTunes store (they do vary!). It's less obvious to me what benefit might exist for Disney.

This. I made a large eBay purchase for a friend and used my eBucks on a Disney gift card for an almost 15% discount!

It can also be a scam for the buyer (depending on the seller). Seller sends with trackable shipping (so keeps value under $250) to a DIFFERENT address but in the same zip code as the buyer.

Buyer never gets the gift card, makes a claim. Seller provides delivery confirmation number with proof of delivery. Seller keeps money, buyer loses out (unless eBay makes an exception because of buyer's history)

TRUE STORY: It happened to someone I know.

Yes, I have heard that this is one reason they sell for face value or above.
