Can Disney gift cards be used at the Swan and Dolphin for food, souvenirs etc?

My understanding is no. The Disney gift cards can only be used for Disney restaurants ( including most if not all restaurants at Disney Springs), shops (in the parks, resorts , not sure about DS ) & most carts in the parks
