Disney for Weight Loss Surgery Patients

Diana thank you so much for your response. I have been reading and preparing for surgery for so long, but now that it is close I feel like I have forgotten everything. And having to plan a whole diffrent way of packing and thinking about my new needs is a little over whelming. I'm thinking of canceling Aug, so I can have a better handle on my new situation.

All these tips are great, How many protein bottles do you take with you to the park. I didn't realize the protein water wouldn't be any good after an hour. So if I can't finish the whole bottle, then I would be needing to bring a few bottles. unless I bring the protein powder in a little container and then with the small funnel (where did you get such a small funnel?) fill my bottle. I am so confused and this was just over protein powder and a empty bottle.

Keep the tips coming, I need all the help I can get.

Yup the protein breaks down and isn't any good after an hour when it comes to powder mixes.
I bought this iddy bitty little funnel with a set of funnels I got at Walmart... got to love walmart :rotfl2:

The reason for the empty bottles is WEIGHT.. 3 full water bottles weigh more than 3 empty ones and I am lazy and it just makes my bag lighter... I hate adding my powder to a full bottle of water as it never mixes as well :confused3 but maybe that is just me being freaky... I always add my powder first and then my water.

This is such a great thread,I am being banded tomorrow 4/29 and our next trip is in October. I am very excited about doing Disney a little lighter, and all these are great tips to help maintain during vacation, especially in WDW, the land of great food.

Leslie,

Good luck tomorrow! Not sure where in DE you are, but there are a few support groups for those that have been banded (which is quite a bit different than GBP). If you'd like more info, pm me.

PJ, i wanna say 'don't give up!' I'm in the same boat...lost a lot but need to lose more and now I, too, am gettin off my duff and exercising and I've lost 12 pounds in two weeks. Yes, yes, i know it's mostly water but do i CARE? It was all on the scale a week ago and now it's not!

Hang in there...we can do this!!

Anyone who has had lap band-can you tell me how many fills you had before you felt restriction. I had surgery 4/2 and am worried I wasted my money. I was self pay so its hard not to focus on that part. I have my first fill tomorrow and am hoping it will help. I feel like right now it is all will power. I know the band is a tool-not a miracle but I would like a little help from it. Other wise I would have just kept my money.

I hate to say, but it may take a while. BUT there are those that have only one fill and they are fine. I am actually almost completely full and that was more than a year out. I have not had a fill in 15 months and have days where I get stuck and days where I don't feel much.

As you said, it is a tool and you have to learn how it can help you. Make the right choices and take your time. Little bites, eat slow, enjoy your food. I love certain items but know that I will only be able to eat a little, so I enjoy that little bit. I LOVE my protein shakes though and use them every single morning for breakfast. I cannot imagine eating in the am. If I have a rough day and can't keep a meal down, I will do a protein shake then also.

Good luck tomorrow and take it easy. It's not a waste if you learn how it can help you.

My DH had a RNY GY on July 19, 2005. It was so hard, but the best thing ever! He was 26 at the time. Lost over 200.

BEFORE (hiding behind the kids-the only "big" pic I had at work)

AFTER (yep it's posed, but it was for facebook and it was an inside joke, ain't he a hottie?)

My biggest tip is for people who are newly out of surgery. (Especially if you had a bypass.) Remember, you had major surgery and it takes a while to get over that and get used to your new eating routine. This doesn't change just because you are on vacation.

On our first after surgery trip to WDW we rode Mission: SPACE and DH got so ill feeling. We spent the next hour at the coffee shop recouping. Then he felt funny the rest of the morning. We hadn't done anything else that morning and he was only a few months out. He doesn't normally get sick on rides. Luckily we had left the kids with mom in the room so we still had some grown up time just relaxing.

Great story sconnell! hubby is a hottie, I know your proud :goodvibes

That was something I noticed as well. I didn't do as well on the thrill rides as I used to :confused3
Before I had a stomach of iron and could do mission space 10 times in a row. Now once and I am done for the rest of the morning!

I wonder, anyone else have the same thing happen to them?

I like to call it my "grouchy pouchy moment"

WOW, he looks great. Congrats on getting so healthy.

I never thought about this, but yea, the rides that i use to be ok on now make me feel worse than they did.

I had gastric bypass in august of last year, going great! Although I have hit a major slump LOL Anyway, DH and i went last month to WDW and had a blast, saved a fortune on food, as we shared every meal. We are going back in august and taking the boys on a surprise trip...free dining!! I will still choose healthy choices, as i do not know if i dump on sugar...too scared to find out if i do or not!

Just wanted to thank you all for this thread! I did a search and there are some pretty negative ones about people who have had weight loss surgery out there, but this one is great and very positive!

I am just starting the process..hoping to be banded sometime between February and April of 2009. One of the things I am most nervous about is how having the surgery will affect our way of life, including Disney. We love to travel and we are hoping to become DVC members in the next 2 years, since Disney is our favorite place in the whole world. It helps me feel better about the decision to have this done knowing there are others out there enjoying themselves at Disney as happier, healthier people. :goodvibes

Found this old threat in my saved folder. Just wondering if anyone who has gone to Disney since April were you able to pay child price at buffets? If so when did you ask about it. I have asked when I was making reservations over the phone and they said there was not discount.
