First, an explanation of our dilemma:
Our house is currently for sale, with a lot of our stuff in two huge storage units. We have a bigger lot a few miles away ready for the manufactured home that we can't order until after the house is sold.
All of our Christmas decorations are in the back of one of the storage units, completely inaccessible.
We're not even sure of where we'll be come Christmastime--we could be in a hotel awaiting our new house.

So, we were thinking, maybe we should just skip Christmas presents this year and take a vacation over Christmas.

We've been to Disneyland several times when I was much younger, and we've been to WDW three times more recently. We were thinking of going to Disneyland over Christmas and staying at one of their resorts--but I was wondering if they do anything special enough to warrant shelling out the extra money. I can't find any information on their website.

Nooooo! Don't do it!!! Seriously, we were at DL on Christmas Day last year and while it was decorated very nicely and the parade and fireworks were an awesome spectacle, it was not enough for me to say that I'd go back on Christmas Day. Why? It was waaaaay too crowded! In fact, maximum capacity was reached by 1:00 PM! If you decide to be adventurous and taken on the crowds that day, what you might be able to do is visit the park(s) in the morning then leaving in the afternoon for lunch or a nap. Then you can come back in the evening. This is something to consider...

Go for it! You don't necessarily have to be in DL Christmas day if crowds are so bad. You could always hang out at DCA. We will be there the 19-26th... Only at DL 4 days of the 8!

I can only speak for our WDW Christmas experience a few years ago, but the week before the crowds were very light. Since Christmas is on Sunday this year, you might want to visit the parks during the week prior, then spend the weekend celebrating at your hotel or some other place. Definitely avoid the week after. Rather than exchanging gifts, we drew names and then put together a special Christmas stocking for the person whose name we got. We still use those stockings and it is a great memory. I don't think the hotels do anything special, but I would hope that they are decorated (especially the Grand Californian).
