Disney for Adults

OK resident experts, I am contemplating surprising my husband with a quick trip to Disney - what are the "must dos", "where to stays" and "what to avoids" for an adult only trip?

If you can afford it, stay at the Poly. For romance, it is far and away the best choice (IMO).

I personally love to stay in the Epcot Resort area (Yacht & Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan & Dolphin) ... you can walk or take the ferry to Epcot (a must do for me) & Hollywood Studios ... you can stroll around the Boardwalk at night and see the fireworks from Epcot ... there are good restaurants to choose from ... it's just a great location and has a great atmosphere, IMO ...

This is hard to answer unless we know what you are looking for. Do you want romance? Or clubbing fun? Or what?

For romance, I agree with PP about Poly. But if a Deluxe is not in your budget, POR is a very romantic MOD. I personally love Narcoosee's at the GF for a lovely dinner. And if you time it right, you can see the nightly fireworks at MK through the windows at Narcoosee's.

For clubbing fun, Disney doesn't have many anymore BUT Jellyrolls at the Boardwalk is a hoot (and has some really good musicians to boot).

What to avoid? This depends on your preference. For me, Chef Mickey's character breakfast is a "miss". With kids, this is a very fun experience. But it can be a loud, chaotic breakfast experience. As an adult without kids, I do not prefer this one. But I am all for character meals for adults - I just prefer 1800 Park Faire at GF or the Crystal Palace in MK.

It's just a quick getaway - kind of "wing it" format. He's not one to typically lay by the pool so I thought Disney would be good as we can do as much (or as little) as we want but can still enjoy some good food and some time together, just the two of us. He could not go when I took the kids and I think he missed out on a magical moment

I would try to book at ONE of the restaurants that you can see the MK fireworks. Reserve so that you'll be eating when the fireworks start and request a window seat when you get there. It's really nice!
Also, we enjoyed having a drink and hanging out on Poly's beach before our dinner there last time. It was our first night, and such a great evening!

Port Orleans French Quarter is a good resort for an adults-only trip. King bed/corner room on the river is so nice, and plenty roomy (ask for Building 1).

When we're alone we like some rides/some shows/some resort-hopping/nice dining, all at an easy pace. Once we explored every nook and cranny of every country in the World Showcase, and sampled chocolate from each.

A fun musical evening at Jellyrolls (Boardwalk), or Scat Cat's Lounge (POFQ), or even YeHaa Bob (POR) is always on our radar. And between POR & POFQ there is a nice horse-drawn carriage ride available.

We avoid the character meals, except Garden Grill. DH loves the dinner there, and Chip & Dale are always playful with us!

And if you can't get a reservation suitable for viewing Wishes, you can get a meal from Captain Cook's in the Poly, sit on the grass next to the beach outside, and watch from there. The music is piped in, with a good view of the castle and fireworks.
