I have a lot of questions regarding eating at Disney. If you have an opinion on one or more of them, please let me know your comments. So far my thoughts have been a meal at Jiko (just for me and DH) and 50s Prime Time Cafe, Rainforest Cafe (at AK) and one of the Epcot restaurants and maybe a character breakfast somewhere.
(by the way we are staying at AKL and will be Me, DH, DD6 and DD1 in August 2009).

1. Do I really need to make ADR 6 months in advance?
2. Where is the best character breakfast?
3. What restaurants are good for kids at Epcot?
4. My daughter has a weight problem (caused by a brain disorder) so we want to avoid deep fried, high calorie, sugary, low nutrition food where possible (we're not cruel, we will let her have fries once or twice;) ) so what places are good for that type of food?
5. Where can you get a good sandwich? (The deli on Main Street USA in Disneyland paris did a ham and pastrami sandwich that was the best meal we had in our whole stay)

Any other relevant information welcome - including more funny stories of the 50s Prime Time Cafe! Thanks guys!

1. To get exactly what you want, the 6-month window is a good idea. Especially for the signature restaurants (Chef Mickey's, Cinderella's Royal Table, 'Ohana's), the six month window is a necessity. That being said, I'm sure that there will be times when you're certainly able to get things less than six months out. For some of the less popular restaurants, you'll likely be fine if you wait 'til the 3 month mark...just be aware that you may not be able to get the time you want.

2. We like Chef Mickey's because all the "biggies" are there. It may not be the best food, but when you can see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale in one place, you're set.

3. There's the princess meals at Norway and a character dinner at the Garden Grill in the land. That being said, Epcot, to me, is a way to open up your taste buds to something you may not normally try...for me, that was France...I had never had French food, but after trying it at Epcot, I've come to realize that I like it.

4. I will let others answer this one. There's healthy options at nearly every sit-down restaurant and Disney is definitely trying to up the healthy quotient at their counter-service locations as well.

5. Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney is one of our favorites.

1 You do need to make them ahead of time..Maybe not 6 months out,but definately early..I usually get what I want 4 months out 50's PTC seems to be one I sometimes can't get then along with LeCellier

2 I think most will say Chef Mickeys at the CR, although we have never been

3 Akershus in Norway has a princess breakfast..My kids have fun at the Beirgarten with the show ad music. They have even gone and danced.

4 Are you looking for healtheir counter service places for DD, or Table service? Or both
Sunshine Seasons at Epcot has a lot of healthy options
There are lots of great TS locations for this too

5 The Earl of Sandwich has great sandwiches...We also like the Plaza Inn at the MK for them... AK's Mara has some good sandwiches...We love the Roast beef and Bleu sandwiches they keep stocked there

1. Yes. :)
2. IDK, I am a DINK (and it's tough to even get my DH to wait in line if we see someone in a park!). But I'm sure many others will chime in with answers on this one.
3. Coral Reef has a view of the aquarium, which I think would be great for kids. The Biergarten is all-you-can-eat and has entertainment. Le Cellier has pretzel bread (a big hit for kids of all ages) and looks like a castle inside, which is fun. Teppan Edo is awesome since they cook at your table. :cheer2:
4. Ok, maybe skip The Biergarten. But Teppan Edo would be great. And maybe Restaurant Marrakesh. But that's just in Epcot... (going back to #3). Are you now looking at other parks/resorts, too? There's tons to choose from.
5. The only sandwich I get at WDW is a hot dog from Casey's. :lovestruc

1. YES!!! ASAP! It's crazy but it's true. Otherwise you may not get the time you want or the restaurant or anything!
2. Best character breakfast? -never been to one i didnt like. Look at the menus, and what characters are there. I think the one in AK will be our new fav, we like the menu and characters and Tusker House looks so nice. 1900 park fare at GF is our fav b/c i like Winnie the Pooh and their food is very good.
3. Kid restaurants at Epcot are Akershush in Norway, it's a princess buffet and the Garden Grill, also character buffet. Coral Reef has the giant fish tank, which would be fun for the kiddies.
4. There are good choices on all the menus, but from what i have seen i think the quick service in Epcot, the Land has good choices. You can also let the chef know of her needs, they'll accomodate.
5. The Plaza in MK is known for sandwiches, probably b/c it's all they have lol. Earl of Sandwich in DowntownDisney is another one.

1. Yes!! Especially in August, the restaurants book up really fast!

2. Chef Mickey's (Contemporary), Ohanas (Polynesian), Cape May Cafe (Beach Club) or Crystal Palace (MK) Sorry, I couldn't pick just one!

3. This is tricky because my brothers and I were VERY picky eaters when we were younger. We would usually either eat at the Electric Umbrella (burgers & fries) or in America (chicken, burgers & fries). I would recommend getting an early breakfast at Cape May Cafe (Beach Club). Their breakfast buffet is delicious, the characters spend SO much time with each table and best of all it is within walking distance to Epcot.

4. If you want to stay away from burgers/fries you might want to try the different countries around the world showcase. They have these really great kid meals in Mexico that come with chicken quesadillas and nacho chips.

5. The BEST sandwiches on Disney property are at "Earl of Sandwich" and it's located in Downtown Disney Market Place. simply AMAZING. It's usually our first and last stop every trip.

1-YES!! I have done them for our past trips DW did this one. She called 6 months to the day at 7 am. She has changed a few since and they are becoming harder to get. We are 3 months from this trip.
2-Depends for DS it was CP he loves tigger-food is great BUFFET. DD loved Cinderella's Castle- food was ok felt rushed.
3-Our kids like Canada, Germany, Norway, also Garden Grill and Coral Reef
4-Buffets she can pick what is good for her.
5-The Plaza, DW likes the Veg. Sandwich at Backlot express....CASEY'S hot dogs:thumbsup2

OK. Well I think that I will make some reservations before we go. Probably Jiko, Rainforest Cafe, Crystal Palace, 50s PTC and one of the World Showcase restaurants. Do I need to book ahead for Boma (bearing in mind we are staying at AKL and so will be there anyway)? The rest of the time we will probably 'wing it' as we don't really eat a lot and especially in the heat, you never know how hungry you will be! Also because of the jet lag, I'm not sure what time we would be hungry! The kids usually eat at 5pm at home, but that's like 10pm or something in Florida!

I wanted to know where to get a good sandwich, so we can buy some during the day and then eat them at our hotel whenever we are hungry. I also thought I would request a refridgerator and maybe order in from gardengrocer, so that we have a few snacks/drinks in our room for the week. Does anyone know if they will deliver wine?

So now I have six months to make my touring plan and then hopefully get the ADRs that we want!

I would make Boma ADRs. It's a very popular buffet.

Earl of Sandwich is CS so you can buy them wrapped up and take them back to your hotel.

1. Do I really need to make ADR 6 months in advance? I totally recommend it. I am a believer that if you are going to WDW you need ADRs no matter what time of the year. Especially if you want CM, LC or CRT

2. Where is the best character breakfast? We love CP. The food is awesome and the characters are a lot of fun

3. What restaurants are good for kids at Epcot? I am taking my nieces to Coral Reef, they are huge aquarium kids so this place should blow them away. Morocco could be fun too with the belly dancer, Beirgarten is great with dancing and music

4. My daughter has a weight problem (caused by a brain disorder) so we want to avoid deep fried, high calorie, sugary, low nutrition food where possible (we're not cruel, we will let her have fries once or twice;) ) so what places are good for that type of food? I suggest checking out the menus on allearsnet.com. THere are lots of healthy choices, salads, soups etc. There are also tons of fresh fruit everywhere you look

5. Where can you get a good sandwich? (The deli on Main Street USA in Disneyland paris did a ham and pastrami sandwich that was the best meal we had in our whole stay) Sunshine Seasons in the Land at Epcot has wonderful sandwiches. Earl of Sandwich in DTD or WPE in DTD make great sandwiches too
