I have been trying to find a lightweight floppy (bucket) hat for summer. Baseball and straw hats don't work for me because they are heavier. I thought if anywhere should have a lightweight and cute floppy hat it'd be Disneyland! I may not be getting back until it gets cooler (I am local and have an AP) but thought I'd ask. I would sincerely appreciate if any of you are staying at the CCI and stop in the ABC Mart or 711 if you would please check if they have any floppy hats. I was thinking some cooler morning maybe I could spend a few hours at DL and then check out those stores before coming home. Thank you! Happy and safe 4th weekend, too.

Cotton is not going to help keep your head cool. Get a CoolHead Zero Booney from Columbia. They are a little pricey at $45, but worth it.

Thank you, Tarheelalum. Lol that could be an excuse for me to finally venture into DCA, too. I'm a DL fan at heart (not also into thrill rides).

Thank you also Rich. $45 though is well a whole lot more than I am able to spend on a hat right now. I will keep that in mind.

I've seen some bucket hats, but they weren't what I would call 'cute'. They were pretty basic and not something I would wear as a female. They have adorable kids' bucket hats, I wish they'd make adult versions of those.

Google 'Disney bucket hats'. Looks like Vans has come out with a Donald one and there are plenty of cute ones on various shopping sites.

StormyCA, I found a bucket hat today at Kmart. They are called Sun Lily Fashion Flips. Here's what it looks like: http://heatreliefdepot.com/images/products/detail/Flip_magenta_500.2.gif It comes inside a small mesh zippered bag. FYI for all, these were not in the regular women's hat section. I found a cardboard display with sides at the back of the store, maybe in an extra summer section, don't know. I believe they had 2 other choices. One was also multi color and the other was yellow with chevron pattern. The hat cost more than I had intended $16. I had some free surprise points from Kmart which made it less. The hat is a little big for me but so light and colorful :) For any of you with children, in this same display, Kmart also had in similar small zip bags, floppy hats for young kids. There were 3 colors, pink, green, and blue. On each was an adorable elephant. I did think of Dumbo and tried it on, too small for me, but a child might love it :) I am not sure if those were also made by Sun Lily or not. Happy 4th to all!

If Disney has a bucket hat they'll keep in stock year round for as long as they carry it, so you'd still find them later in the year. When I have seen them they've been heavy cotton. Disney doesn't tend to sell practical hats for hot weather. Look at all the wool baseball hats and plush hats they sell year round. Even felt ears can be kind of miserable when it's hot and no brim to protect your nose. And the ones that are plastic I think trap steam coming off your head.

I bought a bucket hat (with a matching shirt) during the 50th. It was cotton twill and pretty thick. It also didn't have any kind of vents or holes on top and it was so miserable hot that I think I wore it twice and haven't bought another Disney hat except for ears since. I have another cotton one that I got at the student store in college with vents that is much better. Also I have one out of a thinner material, not sure what it is, but it is much cooler. It has a couple of eyelet holes. I covered it in pins and I will sometimes wear it to the parks. I do mostly wear baseball hats, but if I know I'm going to be sitting outside for an extended period sometimes I like to have my ears and neck covered and not worry about it.

That flowered one is pretty cute and I think the price is right! But I was meaning that Disney didn't do cute 'girly' ones.

I saw at least two different floppy women's sun hats last week. I didn't look at the price. They were in the store in the Disneyland Hotel.

Hug, SMD that does not sound very comfortable at all. Heavy weight and hot hat is not for me either.

Thanks, StormyCA. Disney should make a cuter and light hat for sure.

Thanks Butterfly. I have not been inside the Disneyland Hotel since I was very young. I am going to try at Christmas to visit the hotel lobbies and if so will check out the gift shop.
