The Studio Chapter welcomes the return of animation collector Tom Safer as he presents his multimedia show Disney and Fleischer Cartoons of The Golden Age at our next meeting on Sunday, May 16th.
An avid fan and collector of animated films, Tom has gone through his vast collection to put together a presentation highlighting the cartoons produced by Walt Disney and Max and Dave Fleischer in the 1930s and early 1940s . The animated cartoons of Disney and the Fleischers from the golden age of animation are both highly regarded, but for very different reasons; Disney cartoons were known for their emphasis on striving for a more realistic and natural style of animation, where the Fleischer cartoons were known for their zaniness, surrealism, and a mix of naughtiness and childish innocence. Tom will present several of the Disney and Fleischer studios best animated shorts from this period so we can appreciate and compare their different styles and their contributions to the field of animation. Many of the shorts that Tom will be showing in his presentation have been seldom seen for many years, so this will be a program that no animation fan will want to miss! In addition to Toms presentation, well have refreshments and well be holding a raffle for fabulous Disney prizes. Please join us for a fun and fascinating afternoon!
The Studio Chapter meets at 1:00 p.m. in the Mary Pickford Education Center at the Museum of the American West (formerly the Autry Museum of Western Heritage), located directly across from the L.A. Zoo in Griffith Park. There is plenty of free parking. Non-members are welcome to attend.
