Disney (finally) on New Cruise Ships site

I watched this site closely when the two new ships were announced the first time around and that same year, Carnival came out with a ship called the Magic and another cruise line came out with one called the Dream. I didn't even know they could have same names.

Either way we'll be retired and then we can maybe take our first Maiden cruise.

Boy would I love to get in on a maiden voyage. You and are are in the same time-frame LOL -- I too hope to retire in the next 2-3 years! What a great retierment gift

I'm already planning/budgeting for the new ships. I sailed on the Fantasy maiden voyage and it was costly but wonderful and I would like to do it again.

^ Ditto! We really want to sail a maiden voyage, so barring any drastic changes to our lifestyle we plan on being there! :) I'm surprised to see Fall 2020 and Summer 2021 also. This is when they START building, right?

Funny, of the 40 DCL cruises we've been on the only cruise we ever regret taking is the Dream inaugural! Couldn't get me on a ship's maiden voyage for nothing after that disaster. Seems like they fixed some of the problems they had from the Dream before the Fantasy but I'm figuring enough time will have passed before these ships sail that Disney will forget everything they learned and the first ship's maiden voyage will be difficult! Especially if that first one is a short cruise, I say -- skip it!

Plus the price will be a lot higher on the first cruise

I assume there are extra goodies in the cabin celebrating these voyages.. Lithographs etc.

Yes, practically everyday there was something new. It's been at least four years and six cruises so it's difficult to recall what I purchased and what was free. Let me see... I received a free champagne glass (etched with maiden voyage), replica of the keel coin with stand, special lithograph, your standard Castaway gift and probably some other items that I don't recall. I also enjoyed all the festivities and celebrations on the ship not to mention various Disney executives and other celebrities. It was truly a memorable experience.

Did some of that have to do with the hysteria in the shops to get the specialty items that they were selling out of? I have read various reports about both inaugural sailings :sad2:

I'm not sure what happened on the Dream but on the Fantasy's Maiden Voyage on either the first or second day if you wanted to purchase specialty items you had to go to one of the stores and put your name down and check off the items you wanted. A few days later you where instructed to visit the stores again to pick up your items and finalize your purchase. It was at this time you could decide not to take something or try to add something if it was available. After everyone picked up their items (or didn't) they offered on a first come first served basis on what specialty items where available. I got everything I checked on my list and I recommend to anyone sailing regardless of cruise to carefully review the Navigator as to not miss any announcements.

We were also on the MV of the Dream (and the cruise before that) and I still enjoyed the MV. There were some missteps but I didn't think it was that bad. The champagne glasses were all over the ship that people just left after the toast!! I picked up a few after asking a CM what they did with them. He told me to take some.

The table full of them was from the cruise before the Dream Maiden Voyage...it was a Benefit Preview Cruise for the Boys and Girls Club of Florida but they had the same set up for the Dream Maiden Voyage.

On the Fantasy they left one champagne glass per guest in your stateroom. If they did what happened to you on the Dream I would have picked up a few as well.

I saw CM's handing out tons of glasses on the preview cruise. I know I have some from the preview cruise and some from the MV.

I would like to do another MV on the one of the new ships. We were on the MV of the Magic and that was a real mess but it was our first cruise ever and I was hooked regardless of the problems onboard!!

Ill be straddling them. The first maiden Ill be 1 year from retirement, and the 2nd Ill be retired for a year.

Also, you had the option of ordering specialty items before the cruise online. We ordered hats, shirts and pins, and on one of the first days you went to one of the shops at a specific time to get your bag of items.

I remember each night we got something different also. I remember the keel coin, and wasn't there a special playbill for one of the shows? Ill have to look at our cruise goodies box when I get home, as we put all of our special stuff from cruises in a box.
