I just read a Disneyland press release where they have *finally* announced the construction of DVC villas at the GC - though interestingly enough it says that the expansion is adding 200 hotel rooms AND 50 two-bedroom vacation villas. That's a pretty small DVC resort!

Thanks for the info & the link.

If i ever won the lotto......one of those 2 BR villas would be MINE. :cool1:

hound - :cool2:

Unless you're already a DVC member, don't plan on being able to buy in. With 350,000 DVC members, the points for those 50 2-bedroom units will sell out in the initial sale to current DVC members before any non-members get a chance to buy in.:sad2:

Hi ya Super Mom!!

Don't you think that the other 200 rooms are part of the DVC units?? When youl look at the other DVC hotels, they have studios and 2 bedrooms units that are for DVC.
What say you??? :confused3

No, the other 200 rooms are hotel rooms, not DVC rooms. The 50 2-bedroom DVC units will most likely all be lock-offs, meaning a studio with a connecting door to a 1 bedrooom.

I can hardly believe the announcement of such a small DVC at the DLR?! With about 750,000 points to sell, and over 350,000 members, it would only take 15,000 members to buy a 50 point add-on and the points would be gone! And with such a small DVC, current members will have to buy an add on if they ever want to stay there (using the 11 month booking advantage).

I just find it interesting.....and illuminating.....and un-Disneyfied!

I don't know - I really wonder how many current DVC members will really buy into the Grand Californian, since it's so far away from WDW where they usually vacation. I can see it being something they might want to do once in a while, but not often enough to warrant buying points there. *We* won't - but we live in San Diego, so it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to buy there - we normally just do day trips. I must admit that I'm disappointed there are so few units - I was hoping that we might be able to take advantage of being able to do some last-minute trips (something Florida residents can do!), but I don't think there's going to be availability. Though who knows, in a few years the novelty might wear off for DVC owners who don't own there to try to book at the 7 month mark, and maybe those who do will be wanting to use their points at the WDW resorts.

I know someone must have asked this question...but how soon will they start selling if they aren't ready until 2009?:confused3 How did they do it with the other DVC units?

OOoooh. I want that SO bad! The only reason I did not buy into DVC was because I visit DL more than WDW, and would prefer my home resort to be closer...that would be too bad if they went that quickly. I LOVE the Grand Californian, it's my favorite resort ever!

That's a good question. I'm not sure what California law is regarding this. I know in Florida that a certain percentage of the DVC resort construction had to be complete before they began selling. Whether that was 40% or 50% or 60% complete (or whatever percentage), I just don't know.:confused3

Is this the construction you can see from Mullholland Madness??

Supermom,

I think those of us who live on the west coast are very interested in purchasing.
I don't think most of the current DVC members (who predominately live on the east coast) are that interested. I really think they will be available for you to purchase. Stay positive.

I'm trying to stay positive. I'm really, really, really trying.:goodvibes

My DH is a different story. He's lost that lovin' feelin'.....oh, that DVC lovin' feelin'.....he's lost that lovin' feelin'.....now it's gone, gone, gone.....whoa, whoa, whoa.....:charac2:(Tom Cruise singing)

I think the reason that the DVC announced such a small number of units is so they can remodel a fairly small number of units in the existing structure to meet the required percentage of units to begin sales quickly. . :teacher:

With so few units and so much interest and already 350,000+ DVC current members, I think the points will get snapped out so fast that none will be available to the general public. Yes, it is a long way to travel from the Midwest and from the East, but DVC owners know that with so few units, you have to own to get the 11-month booking window to have any chance to stay at the one and only DVC property on the West Coast. I suspect many will add on, knowing that they can bank and borrow so that they only need to visit every two or three years to get their money's worth.

There's another thread that talked about all the exciting changes and multi-million refurb. for California Adventure that are being planned. I have no doubt it will spur a lot of interest for faraway Disney fans to come visit and the opportunity to buy into a West Coast DVC will appeal to many current DVC owners.

I agree (with a heavy heart).

DL lovers and West coast vacationers have been somewhat alienated (or sidelined) by DVC, and now that a DVC is FINALLY coming to DL, we're still be alienated and sidelined. Bloody Brilliant!

Trying to stay positive.....trying to stay positive.....

In my DVC info stuff, it says 100,000 families own memberships. That is way better 350,000 if that is the truth.
