So we just booked at POR

but looking at the pics, it's definitely beautiful... but it doesn't feel Disney'ish?!
Looking at the pics, it almost doesn't seem like you are even at Disney.

Am I imagining it? Is it just this resort?

Do I need to look at value?

No, it's not just POR. To us, all the moderates and deluxes do not have that over the top, in your face Disney feel. Yes, you for sure know you are at Disney but it's not staring you right in the face. That is one of the reasons we like CBR so much. It feels like we have 2 vacations in one. A lush relaxing resort is a nice change from the craziness of the parks.

If you are looking for that over the top Disney theme, the values do have that. Cost is definitely not the only reason the values are so popular. :thumbsup2

POR is beautiful & very relaxing. The staff are second to none in their helpfulness and general "Disney-happiness" toward guests. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The plant life there is so healthy & trimmed perfectly. The rooms are clean. The cleanliness extends throughout the resort. The food court is extraordinary in their available choices as well as the great taste of everything we ate.

No - the theming does not scream Mickey, but it is such a refreshing change from the parks that we welcome it. If you want the Disney-in-your-face, then you are better off staying with the values. We like all of the Values for this. They all are Mickey, Mickey, Mickey. They are fun.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

I stayed at POFQ in 2006 and visited POR...they are gorgeous resorts! I think they still do have a sort-of Disney feeling. POFQ looks EXACTLY like the French Quarter section of Disneyland, so I liked that...but yes, the values do SCREAM Disney, especially ASMo. I stayed at Pop, too, but ASMo to me has the most Disney feel.

POR is relaxing and pretty and the customer service is top-notch. You will be swamped with Disney FEELS all day, you will not miss it. Stick with POR, you will love it!!! Walk to POFQ and get some beignets at the food court and check out Eliott Dyson in the lounge, he is amazing, or rent a bike and bike around both resorts.

I see that all the time. It doesn't look or feel very Disney-ish. Just what does that mean? What is the "Disney feel"?

POR - I think is the best moderate resort... sorry you do not feel that it has enough Disney 'theme'. :confused3 I guess we prefer theming (sp?) but not to where we feel too saturated by it.

Best of luck!

The "Disney feel" is in the Values. Everywhere you go - you see Mickey and/or something from a Disney Movie.

Mickey is a "Big Deal" kind of guy. He is more important and famous than I will ever be. It's the "Disney Feel" when you see him everywhere you go.

We stayed at POFQ two years ago. I know what you mean about the theming, POR and FQ are not over the top like the values, however, there was no Disney Magic missing from our trip... In fact, I think that if we had stayed value, we might have burnt out after a few days!! Especially my DS who was 4 at the time, after a day at the parks, I don't know that he could have handled the additional stimulation at the values!! That's just us our take though, I am sure others would disagree.

Again, we still felt the Disney "feel" and magic at POFQ... just a subdued version that made the experience very enjoyable for us! Keep in mind there is still a lot going on even though the decor is subdued (beads and coins handed out to the kids at POFQ, Mickey cartoons on in the lobby, Disney on TV in the room, Mickey shaped everytihng in the food court!).

Hi neighbor! While the Disney feel is very present in the Values I still feel it in the Deluxes as well. I know it's all subjective, but our favorite deluxe is the Poly, and to me, being able to watch Wishes on the beach and having just about a dead on view of the castle when you're swimming gives me the most "Disney feel." :goodvibes

Of course we all have our favorites :)

POR is charmingly themed and so gorgeous. If you want the "Disney" feel, just go in the gift shop!

You don't find that some resorts feel more/less Disney than others? I think for everyone it is different and personal preference, but I've seen it come up a lot on the boards so I know there are plenty out there that can relate! I don't think it's something you can explain; it's just the feeling you get when you walk around the resort.

I'm probably in the minority....but to me, the Disney feel isn't about seeing large Disney icons. To me, the Disney feel is the ability to be totally swept away, and feel like you are in a totally different world. To be immersed in the atmosphere that only Disney has perfected. And because of that, I love POR, and it is the best resort for me to feel the Disney magic.

In fact, I'm staying at ASMusic next month, and I'm sad that it won't be the same feel as POR.

This is one of those subjective things that aren't right or wrong, but certainly not the same for everyone.
Probably the best thing is to figure out what feels most Disney-like to you, and book accordingly.:thumbsup2
...And maybe keep in mind there are always exceptions to what may seem obvious. Sometimes it's not just the resort, it's also the CM's, time of year, pool, weather, and whatever else.

NOT the minority...

This is the idea....I still feel like I am 10 when I see CC for the first time each trip. I still get goosebumps in the Que for HM, and I still get a rush on SM.

The POLY makes me forget EVERYTHING in the world except Tonga Toast, piped in music and Pineapple drinks.....thats worth its weight in gold.

I agree with this 100%! Totally personal preference and what you connect best with, draws you in, and makes you keep wanting to come back. For us, that resort is the Poly :goodvibes

It's funny because some people have parks they like better than others for this very same reason. I remember seeing a thread about parks with the most "Disney feel" one time.

It's nice to know others can relate :)

Same for us!

You're suppose to feel Disney all around you! You're in the Disney "zone"! You're in the Disney "bubble". ;) Could it be maybe you don't like the theme at POR and you don't see much Disney character icons? POR is themed to Southern Bayou/Plantation. If you stay at any value resorts (especially the ASMovies) you will find the larger than life Disney icons in your face. You will definitely will feel you are in Disney. :goodvibes I love the value resorts because of the cute Disney themes. I'm very versatile. I can go value and moderate. They all have their own Disney feel to me.

If you're not feeling it.. (not crazy about the resort due to lack of Disney feel or Disney atmosphere), stay somewhere you think you will enjoy the resort.. Go with your gut. :) I personally love ASMovies! You can't get any more Disney than that.. (AoA is also another option if you want the Disney feel.) Good luck with your decision. But whatever you choose, I am sure you will enjoy your resort. Disney is in the air!! pixiedust:

The moderates and deluxes each have a strong, immersive theme. POR is the antebellum South. POFQ is old New Orleans. The Boardwalk is...well...the boardwalk. :) WL is modeled on the Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone Park.

Each of them has subtle Disney touches, such as references to classic Disney films, and hidden Mickeys.

If you're looking for very strong Disney theming, with the characters front and center, you'll only find that at the value resorts.

Each of us defines the "Disney feel" differently. For me, the resorts with the strongest Disney feel are the Poly and the CR, as they were the first of the onsite Disney resorts. They're the ones that were there when I first visited WDW, they're the ones I read about in the years before I went to WDW. To me, they're Disney. :)

I'm an oddball because when I leave the parks, I just want quiet and relaxing and pretty and the Port Orleans resorts certainly have all of that. We visited the AoA resort and it's cute but so not for us. I'd be frazzled by the end of the vacation if we stayed in a place like that.

I love POR and I felt that there was enough of a Disney feel for me. The grounds are beautiful and the customer service is top notch. This past year we decided to try the military resort on Disney property, SOG. It was nice but no Disney theme at all and I don't want to do that every year. POR is a big step up from SOG as far as Disney feel. Can't wait to be back at POR in Feb.
