Our daughter is getting married soon, and we want to find a nice song for the father-daughter dance. Going through the typical lists has been unsuccessful. We took our kids to Disney every few years as they grew up, and I think a Disney themed song would be great. I was wondering if anyone has used 'When You Wish Upon A Star', or 'Tale As Old As Time'. These are great songs but we are having a hard time finding good versions. Celine Dion is too dramatic.

Any ideas/input would be appreciated!

You'll Be in My Heart from Tarzan comes to mind...

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes too. Linda Ronstadt has a pretty version.

If you try searching for the song titles in iTunes you can play short snippets to see if you like particular versions. If you keep going past the numerous Celine Dion results you should find some good versions. Most of the ones I liked are by musical theatre performers (because that's the music I like!) and a lot are Australian, so hopefully they are available in the US as well.

Beauty and the Beast
- Patrice Tipoki (Australia's Fantine)
- Rob Guest with Tina Cross

When You Wish Upon a Star
- Idina Menzel
- Michael Crawford (the only problem with this one is that I feel like it's the Phantom singing it, which gives it a very different feel!)
- Erin Hasan
- Alfie Boe (who just took over as Jean Valjean in Les Mis on Broadway)
- Rod Stewart

Baby Mine from Dumbo could also be a good choice. There is a gorgeous version by Kate Miller-Heidke on an Australian album called We Love Disney.

(As a side note, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you for posing this question! In looking up the songs I discovered an album by the late great Rob Guest that I never knew existed! He was an incredible Australian/New Zealand theatre performer who suddenly passed away a few years ago, so it is lovely to have a recording of his voice!)

"Second Star from the Right"from Peter Pan might be good choice. I would say it's not a really popilar choice but I think it would work

"You'll be in my heart" from Tarzan would be a perfect Father/Daughter Dance Song

I completely agree with PPs...

You'll Be in My Heart from Tarzan! Oh, I love that song!

Ooh, this is a cute idea. Hopefully I can remember this in several years for my DDs. DD16 would like the Tarzan one and DD14 would want Beauty and the Beast. DD14 actually has already decided she wants a wedding dress styled like Belle's ball gown, and the colors of royal blue and yellow...

Wow, that is wonderful, Saphire. So happy to hear the good news. Congratulations and best wishes all around.

Hard to think of more than above, but here is a list of suggestions from the big cheese people themselves...

Many there, plus some non-Disney ones also.

And a couple more links from Disney here...

Great 'seeing' you, Saphire, and again, best wishes to everyone.

When DD got married last year, she and her dad danced to "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" by Linda Ronstadt.

DS gets married in 5 weeks and we are still tossing around dance song ideas. I suggested "You'll Be in My Heart" but he said it was about forbidden love and unacceptable.:rotfl: Now trying to suggest "You've Got a Friend in Me" or "Rainbow Connection".
