for those of you who are long term users of vero beach, I have 2 questions: 1) can you get into vero beach at 7 months if it is not your home resort? 2) I travel from illinois and fly in, what is closest 2 airports and is it worth the extra maintainence fees and renting the car to go there? What are the fees 5.5?

As to question #1 -- it depends on the accomendations and time of year you wish to visit VB - for example...a beach cottage in peak season might be hard to get vs an Inn room - short answer..you proably can get in at VB in one room class or another.

As to question #2 --Orlando and Melborne are you two best bets, and MCO will proably have the lowest costs on airfare....the other parts of your second question suggest you're thinking about buying ....the shortest answer there is to go, experience the VB resort and decide for yourself if you think it's worth owning there as a home resort.....HTH :)

PS/ just wondering what the " ASAP" portion of your post is??

I purchased 2 contracts both at okw. but, have 10 days to decide if I should buy half of the points at okw and the other half at vero beach?. I was told that the west coast of florida the waters are calmer. I have a 4 and 6 year old and was told the waves are very high at vero. I need to make a decison, I can change my contract in 10 days. 259 points for okw and 257 for okw now, but believe I maybe should switch to some at vero. Unsure if drive from olando is very long. what are the maintainence fees and percent increase per year. I think Id like to go to vero one a year or every other year. Let me know

forgot to tell you , I want to go to okw during week 12, end of march for kids time off and during 4th of july for vero beach or near that week. I had called in may the reservation area and they told me that vero is booked all weekends of the summer since january. maybe I would be better trying to trade out to a west coast florida beach resort instead of paying high fees at vero

Well...the sea is calmer on the gulf coast for sure...the waves aren't that "high" at VB - it's the undertow that the issue...the drive from the Orlando area to Vero is about 1 1/2 hrs...It's impossible to predict the % of fee increases, but clearly, VB MF's are higher than other DVC resorts owning mostly to the resort's exposure to hurricane damage...if, in fact, you wish to go to VB once per year, then perhaps owning there makes sense (again, depending on the type of room you wish).

DVC doesn't operate as 'Week X " like other timeshares....you guide should have explained this to you...if however you want to visit (on points) VB over the July 4th period, I'd strongly advocate owning a contract there.

Are you speaking with Disney directly on the purchase? I think you are being given some bad information. Vero does not book solid for the summer by January. We got into Vero last summer two months out and I was able to add days to my summer reservation about three months out this year. DVC also does not work on set weeks like other timeshares.

It sounds like you are being rushed to make a decision without really understanding how DVC works and all the many option you have. There are lots of red flags in the details of what you've been told. I'd recommend that you pass on both contracts right now and take some time to read up about DVC on the boards, ask all your questions, and get the answers you need to feel 100% secure about your purchase. If you are not looking to travel until March, you've got plenty of time to make a decision and find the right contracts to suit your needs.

Good luck!!

I agree with starbox... sounds like you're not getting the right info. As far as VB... yes the waves are.... fun. Not for 3 and under though. However, your kids are coming into the age when they will like to have fun in the waves.

What (IMHO) makes VB a great resort is that everything is right there. You can set up on the beach and throughout the day move from the beach to the pool to the room and around again.

If you are bound to make decision.... I would buy some points at VB, because of all the new resorts... SSR, AKV, and soon to be CRV.... the beach destinations will become much harder to acquire in the future, but for right now, we book at 7 months at VB every year.

Good luck in your decision....

I looked at key west and really liked the size and homeness of the resort, but it looked older. beach club and board walk looked nice on pictures as well as vero. they all look so nice it is hard to choose. are the undertoes at vero in the deeper water and not out 4 feet. I have been to ocean city maryland and no toes until into much deeper water.

do you own at vero and make reservations 7 mos out or do you own somewhere else? I called reservations in may and they stated that the weekends were taken friday and saturdays for the entire summer. I started asking for dates and all were taken. I could get the weekdays though a a scattered fri or sat. but this was from the reservations line at disney. do you ever transfer thru ii and go to other beach destinations? is it better to buy vero even though high maintainence fees or transfer thru ii since in both ways you have to rent a car, not actually staying on disney property. I have been looking at this for about 2 months still a hard decision

the upcoming crv resort. I think you stated crv. what resort is this?

Contemporary Resort Villas - still a rumour at this point, but one that we really think and hope will happen.

I own at Vero Beach resort - just a small contract that will get me an Ocean View Inn Room on Spring Break each year, which is premier season. It's also enough to bank and borrow (to give me three years worth of points) so I can have a beach cottage during the first few days of 2008. I love VB, but it does have higher maintenance fees and can be subject to hurricanes. Ask lots more questions here, so you can make an informed decision. BTW, I also own and love Old Key West.

have you gone to any other beach front propertys as the west coast of florida. I am wondering if vero is worth the fees. when you bank and borrow, do feel you are always doing catch up and not having enough time for the next year. give me an example. I heard they had a hurricaine about 5 years ago, did dues go up a lot?

I have been to St. Pete/Tampa beaches, but my other favorite beach is on the northern part of the gulf - like Gulf Shores, AL, and Pensacola, FL. I don't miss Vero the years that I don't go, because I have points at other DVC properties that I use. I just have 90 points at VB, so, if I do want an Ocean View room during spring break, I will have the 11 month booking advantage.

I fly in from Chicago Midway to either West Palm Beach or MCO they are about the same distance to drive it just depends what SW deals are going on. Always got a cheap fare too. :thumbsup2

Disney reservations only has a very small % of rooms that they can rent to the general public. This inventory is very different from the inventory that DVC members can reserve using their points.

Again, I think you'll love owning DVC - but I also get the feeling that you are feeling pressured to make a quick decision on these contracts. Please feel free to ask any and all questions you have on the Disboards - you'll find a wealth of information to help you.

There are so many factors to weigh when deciding the size of your contract, your home resort, whether to purcahse via. Disney or via. a resale. Take your time and find what works best for you. It's very easy to purchase DVC, so you should never feel like you have to rush to sign a contract.

I called DVC on July 2nd and got an ocean view inn room for thur July 12th to mon July 16th. They did say that this was the only room left. Last year I called a month before Memorial day and got a studio for all but monday night.
