There in lies the problem, too many people rely on the place and not the circumstances. The point of the SeaWorld story is not that SeaWorld is unsafe or full of child molesters, but what you should take away from the story is that you need to be careful who you leave your children alone with, even for a short period of time.
Again, to my point where instead of informing the public and raising public awareness it is a media ploy to throw out some big name in the hopes of grabbing the headline first. The moral of the story is lost, which is even family friends are capable of abuse.....so the headline readers just see that SeaWorld is unsafe and stay away...while their children are still being left alone with these "family friends".
Look at the rape at Disney by the cast member. Everyone is focused on his job and not the fact that this lady either fell for scam to get a free/discounted vacation......or not to leave strangers in your room while you are going ot sleep, with your children asleep too. This is how child abductions and abuse occur.
As for the above example, you being more cautious at the market with recent crime is usually counter productive. When a major crime occurs, Security is usually increased for a time being and you are relatively safe immediately after an incident. It is the market that never had any problems or issues that are unsafe because they have cut their security budgets and never fixed their cameras...."because nothing ever happens here".
