Disney's earnings report is to be announced today after the closing bell. Is to talk about future growth of company in about 5 min. on CNBC. (Mods, please don't move!) Analysts say the stock is extremely undervalued at its price of $30/per share. They all said they felt the international tourists will help keep the parks recession proof. All the tones are positive, ABC had done well, and Hannah Montana is going global! (I don't have any girls, who is she?) Might be a good time to buy more points before they go up as well!!

While Disney travel and parks may hold up well because of international guests, the Real Estate/Timeshare market may not. Even with the relatively large number of foreign members, the majority of timeshare shales is to US residents, who will be affected if there is an economic downturn. There may also be an upswing in the number of resales on the market, which would either mean DVC has to buy back more points under ROFR, if so, that would mean a higher inventory of "older" DVC resort points. which may influence the decision of CRV vs. cash family suites.

WOW! Are you serious?! :lmao: I have two kids...DS-8 and DD-4. Neither is really into any performers or groups. So I don't know her through my kids, but rather all the media hype that surrounds her. I can't believe you've never heard of Hannah Montana...she's more popular than the Beetles were in their day. She's a huge hit through Disney and she's a huge hit with Country Music fans because she's the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus. I think I heard that her concerts sell out in seconds (not minutes!).

So, that's who Hanna Montana is (AKA Miley Cyrus). So, now ya know!! :rotfl2: Just watch the Disney Channel for about five minutes...you'll see who she is. I don't think a commercial break happens without something about her!

Thanks for your info about today's announcement...it shall be very interesting to see what happens to the stock. We own one share of Disney stock...well, actually DH owns it...I bought it for him for Christmas from one of those websites that sells one share of stock in various companies. I thought it would be cool to have a share of Disney stock. :)

(ETA) P.S. I'm not laughing at you...I'm completely amazed that someone who follows anything Disney doesn't know who Hanna Montana is...she's just really really really in all spotlights right now. So, please don't think I was laughing at you or trying to be cruel...I wasn't at all. You asked who she was, so I told you. ;)

thanks for the "tip!"

i noticed many analysts had downgraded DIS to "sell", while posters here were complaining that the parks were always full and cost too much. seemed like a great time to buy...:thumbsup2

Wow!! Disney's numbers are fantastic!! Best performer of the market, will rock tomorrow. Bob Iger gave an interview....said Disney cruise ships already 85% booked for 2008! Price to earnings ratio under 14, all analysts are talking long on this stock. Smith Barney was the broker who sold on the down, they look real bad right now. Stock is up almost a point since the news at 4, are expecting much more by tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Also said park attendance has not suffered even through this rocky economy. Would not speculate for the rest of the year, but all indicators look wonderful. Iger sites success in ABC, ESPN, and the recent movies as areas that have really turned around the numbers. No talk of timeshares! :goodvibes

I have heard of Hanna Montana, but I don't have a clue about what it is that she does.
But I do know how to spell BEATLES!!!:thumbsup2

Sorry, couldn't help it. Aging baby-boomer here ;) .

PS I recorded A Hard Day's Night last night on IFC. Looking forward to reminiscing!
Sorry to hi-jack the thread. Back to important financial things now....:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Well, the last big thing I remember was the POWER RANGERS! (Did I spell that right?) :wizard: Back on topic, we should be buying some Disney if you have some $$.

I know who Billy Ray Cyrus is!:goodvibes

I know DH owns some Disney stock in his 401K and I suppose some of my Mutual funds have some too. We're in need of good stock news these days.

Bobbi:goodvibes

LOL!! DUH!!!! Sorry BEATLES fans! I should have double checked my spelling before I posted that! :lmao: And I'm usually a good speller! OOPS! In my defense, I was at work, so I was multi-tasking! :rotfl2: They say multi-tasking isn't as efficient as some might think...I think they're right!

BWV Dreamin - That's great news about how well Disney is doing! Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes Hopefully that means no price increases for a while!

Info from the 8-K filing with the SEC.

Parks and Resorts

Parks and Resorts revenues for the quarter increased 11% to $2.8 billion and segment operating income increased 25% to $505 million. Operating income growth was driven by increases at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort Paris, and improved performance at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Domestic Resorts

Operating income growth at Walt Disney World was primarily due to increased guest spending, attendance, vacation club ownership sales and hotel occupancy, partially offset by higher operating costs. Increased guest spending was due to higher average ticket prices and increased food, beverage and merchandise spending. Higher operating costs were driven by volume-related costs, labor cost inflation and new guest offerings.

International Resorts

Operating income growth at Disneyland Resort Paris was primarily due to increased attendance, guest spending, hotel occupancy and real estate sales. Increased guest spending was driven by higher average daily room rates and increased food and beverage spending. At Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, improved performance reflected increased attendance.

I don't think there is any doubt after visiting Disney World 4 times in 2007 anyone can say the parks are not doing well. The crowds I witnessed and money pouring out of guest's wallets at DTD, parks, and resorts is proof enough to me that this sector of Disney's business is doing fantastic!

My guess is the downgrades Disney stock received was more of a future projection by the brokerage houses based on the ability of Americans to afford a Disney vacation in 2008. Who really knows for sure if they will be right.

You are not alone. I have problems chewing gum and typing.:surfweb: ;)

Bob Iger was on Fast Money on CNBC yesterday. Basically the panel said Smith Barney making a call to sell at a low point was very typical of them(ie they don't know what they are doing).

The whole Fast Money gang is very high on DIS(very impressed with resort & parks and the content that DIS is putting out). Bob Iger was very good also, up was foreign visitors to domestic parks and a good rise in attendance at Paris and Hong Kong.

I wish park attendance would have a bit of a down swing...too crowded! A good time for those crowds to go away would be mid May in DLR :)

I couldn't believe it when I saywDisney listed as a Sell by that guy..'those guys' usually don't do any better at guessing the market than we do.

I agree that I have not noticed a drop in attendance at the parks at any time. I've been about 3 times in the last couple of years and it was just as busy each time. I don't go during the Summer or during Christmas break, so I can't speak for the HEAVY crowds at those times, but the "off" times that we've been are more crowded than I had expected.

In our house...DH works TWO jobs...his second job is to help pay for extra's mainly being our DVC and our trips to WDW!!! When the kids are out of daycare, then he won't have to work two jobs to pay for Disney anymore!! :lmao:

Thanks for this report! CNBC still real high on Disney this morning. Their numbers really beat the street. So I guess DVC is having some impact on earnings!
