Hi - has anyone ever been at WDW during a Presidential election? If so, what's it like? Are people caught up in the news or in their Disney happy place? What's a good place to watch results?:coffee:

WDW tends to be a pretty insulated little bubble; I don't think you'd even be able to tell an election is going on. The results may be on in the resort bars, or they may not.

And just a reminder, discussion/debate of politics is not permitted on the DISboards. It's fine to discuss where to watch the results, but this thread will be closed and infractions issued if it turns into a debate.

We were there during the election one year - you never would have known it. We heard no discussions of it in the parks, and only knew who won when we got back to the hotel room.

Definitely don't want to discuss politics. We're just usually glued to the tv at home but we don't want to miss a day of Disney Magic sitting in our hotel room. We'll check our resort's pub later in the evening I guess.

:wave2: Was there when Obama was elected. Didn't notice any particular interest or excitement regarding the election one way or another.

We were too. Spent the night at MK, have no recollection of any one talking about it and were back in our room when it was called. We never heard a peep from anyone outside....and I was at UConn when we have won championships, so trust me I know when people celebrate things!

If you have a smartphone or an iPhone/iPod, maybe you can check the polling even while you're in line. :)

If you are going to want to be watching all the results come in, it might be better to plan the trip another day. :confused3 Otherwise, the only way to really watch all that would be to stay in the room and watch. They don't play news, etc in the 'world.'

Many years ago, my husband and I were at WDW during the OJ Simpson car chase, etc. When we left a few days later, we were still totally in the dark and had no idea what people were talking about. We had not heard one peep of current event news while we were there. To this day, I think we were the only people in America who did not see it.

...And THAT is the single most reason why we love WDW :thumbsup2

A place where the 'real' world goes away for a few days? I can dig it.

I thought my husband would be a little resistant, but when I told him about your replies he said "might be nice to get away from it for a while." So I guess he can dig it too! :thumbsup2

You MIGHT be able to watch returns in a resort lounge but no guarantees.

It's a small, small (insular) world at WDW. We were there during the end of the olympics. I thought maybe we'd be able to see closing ceremonies since were were in Epcot (England naturally). There was nothing of the sort going on. I did buy my little guy an olympics mascot t-shirt (on sale).

There is no access to televisions anywhere inside the theme parks. Even the lounges in the parks do not have televisions (you could say 50s Prime Time is an exception, but their TVs show nothing but old sitcom clips). The only place I've ever seen a television inside a theme park is in one of the VIP lounges.

If you want to view a televised event outside of your hotel room, you need to try a resort or resort restaurant bar or lounge. There are televisions in the resort lobbies, but those show Disney cartoons exclusively.

Just be aware that if you go during election week that it is also Jersey week there. It was very crowded. We will never go that week again.

We'll be on a Fantasy cruise that week, and will have absolutely no clue what is going on till we are back. I kind of like that we'll have blissful ignorance for once... :beach:

The most visible impact of an election is afterwards when Hall of Presidents closes for refurb to add a new president, whenver that might occur.

We were at POFQ during the Bush/Gore election. Even with Florida being the "hot spot" of the election, you only knew it if you were watching the local news in your hotel room.
