Disney Dreams Ruined for me

I personally think it is unrealistic to expect or be upset about the video taping thing. When or if i tape something, i first make sure it is allowed then i tape anything at my own risk, it is a vacation. lots of people noise and obstructions around. I really cannot understand how someone can get upset, I could see if you worked for the cruiseline and it was your job, but it is for your own personal enjoyment.

either way enjoy your next vacation

It is very annoying, when people behind you are trying watch the show and there is this day-glow halo around you, you don't realize how bright the camera is in a dark environment. I'm won't get into the legalities of it, just commenting on the fact it is distracting and annoying, did it ruin watching show, NO, but it was a distraction.

Digital. Usually 800-1200 ISO using spot metering to avoid burning the highlights.

Lots of show pictures at the link below with EXIF data if you'd like to see my exposure settings.

Sam,
Just wanted to say that your photos are AWESOME!!!! Wish I had 1/2 of your talent! I have a sony cybershot dsc-100 (5.2 megapixel), but I have no idea how to work the different settings (I mostly just point & shoot :teeth: ). Feel free to throw some pointers my way anytime!

I had read this thread about a week ago today, while I was on the Magic.

That night (last Thursday), I went to the matinee of Disney Dreams.

Sure enough, in the FIRST row, right in the center, was a lady who flipped out her video camera, which also evidently took digital stills as well.

Anyway, during the scene where the girl has her eyes closed and the rising Aladdin on the couch comes up behind her, this woman decides to take a picture just when the girl opens her eyes to discover Aladdin.

The girl opens her eyes, squeals "Aladdin!!!", the flash goes off, and the startled girl yelps.

Not one CM moved until I got out of my seat (5th row) and walked to the back to get one. The CM waited until there was a lull in the production and crawled over to ask the woman to stop.

The lady stopped for about 10 minutes and took off her flash, but everyone behind her could still see her camera screen.

The minute the cast took the stage to take their bows, this woman darts out of her seat to run out of the theater.

It's not often I wanted to toss someone overboard. That afternoon I was sorely tempted.

I cant stand people who do thngs like this!!!!!! It's a major pet peave of mine!! So many times I have been annoyed by somebody with a camcorder sitting near me trying to record the show. Meanwhile the bright light from his camera is ruining everyone else's enjoyment!! Very rude indeed!!! I want to warn everyone that I am the type of person to confront the person who does this and let a CM know! So dont do it around me!! I wont give up and take it!! :badpc: :rolleyes1

Disney Dreams is the "signature" professional stage show....I think it is on both ships. There is controversy here because despite an announcement staing that video is not permitted under theatre contract legals...copyright protection, etc....there are still folks who think that the rules apply to everyone but them, and they proceed to video tape the stage shows, bothering those around them with the LED screen, running commentary, etc.

And the CM's in the theatre do not do anything about it. I sometimes feel that the CM's fear the tirade that might rain down on their head if they remind cruisers of the rules......and I have seen some serious tirades come raining down regarding video, children in the adult areas, saving chairs at the pool, saving seats in the theatre, children in the spa, etc.

Just asking because I don't know (as far as legalities)...why is taping this show any different from taping the shows at WDW. They allow you to tape Fantasmic, Beauty and the Beast, Country Bears, COP, The Cinderella show in front of the castle, Indiana Jones, Lion King. The only announcement was no lights and no flash. Now granted if they say don't do it I wouldn't but just wondering why the difference. Now at WDW the movies are not to be taped but the stage shows are ok.

The stage shows on the ships must be somehow different from the parks, if indeed it is permissable to tape them. The ship shows are more like a Broadway show.....where the "proprietary interests" do not allow you to tape them, unless it is by one of the designers for their own resumes.

I think the big annoyance with the videotaping is the LED screens. They are bright and point at everyone BEHIND you and in the dark they are blinding! Not to mention that if someone is using the screen while recording, they tend to move their arms in the air etc, to get the best shot which blocks others views and is distracting. I don't know why (if they insist on taping the show) don't they use the viewfinder in consideration of those around them. (Consideration is the key term). I went to my son's band concert in a dark auditorium last month and we sat in the balcony and there was a SEA of bright lights below us from all the LED screens. It really took away from the performance and it was distracting visually. Just my two cents.

This seems to be a case where the CMs are reluctant to enforce the rules because they don't want to upset the person violating the rules. However, by not enforcing the rules, they upset dozens of other guests.

Rather than hunting down video tapers during the show it may work better if CMs watched for cameras being brought into the theater. They could give the guest a friendly reminder that taping the show is not permitted. This way it is not being done during the show.

Perhaps some of the CM's are reluctant to say much because they are afraid the "tapers" may cause a scene. Which in turn would upset many more people or disrupt the program worse for those nearby.

I just wanted to say for the most part this does'nt bother me so much. It's because the theater is so dark! The LED light is blinding! If someone is video taping a show in the light it does'nt bother me at all. I really think before I go in I will just remind a CM of the rules and ask them to inforce it (in a very nice manner) and then ENJOY!!! the show. :3dglasses
