DISNEY DREAMING! A Nov/Dec 2010 PTR *12/9 ~ Hello Again!

So is it safe to say the peral you pick will fit into the carriage pearl cage? I read on another thread where they woujld only fit smaller pearls. I also read someone that said they wouldn't let the kids know about it, and would put the pearls in the cage while the kids were sleeping. When they see them in the morning they would say a "certain fairy must have tinkered with it"
So I guess I need to get some of those cages.

So sorry to hear that about your co workers son. I hope he gets better.

Thank you :goodvibes:

I have that pearl cage and I love it. Every time I wear it I think about the day Christian (my step grandson) picked the pearl for me, it is such a lovely memory.

Perfect! That's exactly what I'm hoping to create too. :lovestruc What a great memory for you.

Keeping your co-worker in my thoughts. Hopefully she will have some good news for you on monday.

Thank you :goodvibes:

I got my pearl cages already too. I got one for Myself and also one for my daughter but I am not sure if she is picking a pearl or if I am going to just get a cheap gem to put in it. Will have to figure that out.

:cool1: How great is the DIS? Never would have known to get a pearl cage otherwise. Whichever route you end up taking I hope she loves it..... maybe find her birthstone (or something that looks like it anyway!) if you don't do the pick-a-pearl.

The description of the carriages says it will fit an 8mm oval pearl, crystal or gemstone. Cruising a few threads on it, I've found a few that say typical sizes picked are between 6 and 8mm and I found a post HERE that shows her 7 1/4mm pearl in the exact cage I got.

My girls are a little old for the "tinkering" line but how sweet is that! Love it! Yep, I think you should get the cages too. ;)

I am going to have such a great trip because of all the things I have learned from the DIS. I have a friend that went to WDW over the spring. She said she would sit and give me some pointers. When I met with her I was giving her pointers on things I had learned here. It was funny. She is now planning another trip next year so she can use what she learned from me. I told her to join the DIS and get all the info but I haven't seen her around here yet.

I have a feeling DD will be picking a pearl. I know I am getting one for myself and when she sees me doing it I think she will really want to do it too.

Have you seen this thread? Things I would never have done without the DIS I actually printed out the entire thread (at work :ssst: ) and transferred a bunch of notes to my planning book. :thumbsup2

Have your DD watch others pick them for a little bit too before it's your turn. They make a big production of it from what I've heard and the excitement of that and you getting yours..... I think you're right, she'll want one too!

I agree. I didn't even know about the pick a pearl thing. Of course, I am sure there is a boatload of stuff I don't know about.

I wanted to do pick a pearl last trip but completely forgot when I was in Epcot.... I will have to remember this year, but I want a ring!!!!

Sorry to hear about your co-workers son, I will say a prayer for him in church today

Thanks for the link, now I have another thread to catch up on. At least this one is only 22 pages long. Shouldn't take long.

My greatest fear. :worried: I'm anxious to hear he'll be OK.

I so can't wait to see the Japan pavilion. I've been to Teppan Edo, but haven't been shopping or done pick a pearl, or seen the candy lady.....

Sending thoughts, prayers and pixie dust their way :)

I love the Japan Pavillion, you will have a blast doing Pick a Pearl and Mitsukoshi is an awesome shop, take your time browsing :)

Hi Tracy!:goodvibes Thanks for sharing this thread! I have bookmarked it and I plan to spend some time tonight checking it out!:thumbsup2

The carriage pearl cages are so pretty! I've been really wanting to do the pick a pearl but I've read that the settings can get very expensive. I'll definitely have to check out ebay instead.

Oh and I'm so sorry to hear about your co-workers son. I hope you get some good news tomorrow.

There are so many things I'm still learning too. May we never run out!

Thank you so much for your prayers. A ring would be beautiful :goodvibes . I have a feeling when I see all the different settings there I'll become addicted.

Thanks for your prayers Stefy. :goodvibes

We might just focus on a few pavilions instead of getting snippets of all of them. Japan will definately be one I choose!

Hi Angie! Happy reading to you too! :surfweb: Yes, do go check out eBay for the cages. There are so many to choose from but if you'd like the one I bought from let me know. She was really great and when there was a delay crossing the border and it seemed lost in the mail, she offered to send a second set for free.

Thanks for the well wishes! :goodvibes

Hello DIS friends! Please accept my profuse apologizes for the lateness in this update. I’d intended on getting it posted last week but well….. things came up.

Our first park day had us celebrating the night away at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! The party goes until midnight and I’m really hoping we can last that long and close it out. Our plans for the next morning are open so sleeping in won’t be a problem. I’ll probably end up saying this for most of our days, but I’m excited for this one. Today we’re off to……

DAY TWO
HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Monday, November 29th
Park Hours: 9am to 7pm

2009_0824pics0004.jpg

No breakfast ADR today so I’m not sure if we’ll stop to get anything in the Pop food court or just head straight to the park. Likely, straight to the park.

Sidetrack: On our last trip while we were waiting for our reservation at Sci-Fi, we ducked into a little store that had chairs around a TV that was playing old school Mickey Mouse cartoons. I never knew what it was called and I think someone told me once, but I’ve forgotten and for some reason I just can’t find it on the park map. Anyone recognize this?

2009_0824pics0142.jpg

Anyways, I think when we get to the park, for breakfast I’ll steer everyone towards Starring Rolls. I’ve never been but have heard great things about it.

Demetri and I don’t want to fill up too much (although sometimes I think that is impossible for him, the kid is ALWAYS hungry!) because just the two of us have a special lunch planned. Jessica (JPFamilyMom) suggested back in my ADR planning stages to book just the two of us when it was going to be an out-of-pocket expense. You see, Demetri loves the Playhouse Disney show Handy Manny. I’ve said this before, but he knows a lot of Spanish because of this show and he’s too cute because he says the words properly. Like with the right accent and everything. Anyways, Handy Manny is a new addition to Play ‘n Dine at Hollywood & Vine but I was keeping it a secret from him because I didn’t think we’d be able to fit the ADR in. When my ADR window opened, I booked it to be OOP for the two of us with the thought if it didn’t work out, I’d cancel it, but then when the free dining came out I added an extra day to the reservation so now it’s covered. I decided to keep it just the two of us though, and it will be something just him and I will do together. Last trip, Ariana and I had a special mother-daughter only breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

So, while we have an 11:55am lunch reservation at Hollywood & Vine, the rest of the gang are fending for themselves. Alex and Kathryn are looking forward to times they can go off on their own at the parks and I think that’s a perfect time for them to explore. George and Ariana can go off to Toy Story Mania or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster – two of her favorite rides – or even hit a character spot for pictures. The two of them did that last trip when I took the boys to Teppan Edo at Epcot and he said it was one of his favorite parts of the trip. So I think this will work out really well for everyone. :cloud9:

For the park itself, I don’t really have a plan of attack. We usually just see how it goes and where we feel like going. Like before however, here are my hodgepodge notes on Hollywood Studios of things I want to do that I’ve never done:

  • Find the singing in the rain umbrella by the stuntshow.
  • Draw a character in the Magic of Disney Animation
  • Pull the handle in the ToT fuse box.
  • See the cowboy side of the Great Movie ride.
  • Star Tours will be closed, but I’m hoping the Jedi Training is still going on and Demetri gets to do it!
  • Check out the shops, especially Villains in Vogue.
  • Spend more time looking at the signatures and handprints in cement outside the Chinese Theatre and find “Charton Heston” and Leonard Nimoy.
  • Check out the line for TSM instead of the fast pass line. (Mr. Potato Head!)
  • Stick Demetri’s hand in the dog’s nose at Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground.
  • Pull the rope at the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular
  • See the finale for the American Idol Experience
  • See Captain EO (EDIT: Whoops! This is for our Epcot day!)

The PhotoPass spots for DHS are:

  • Hollywood Boulevard
  • Sunset Boulevard outside the Tower of Terror
  • Sorcerer Mickey’s Hat
  • Magic of Disney’s Animation (I’m hoping to hit one of the character blitzes!)
  • Avenue of the Americas (on the map it shows this location as outside the Stunt Show)

Things I’ve done before and are anxious to do again:

  • Toy Story Mania Midway
  • One Man’s Dream (haven’t seen the 10 minute film before, maybe this year)
  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid
  • Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (this is the only ride Demetri is not yet tall enough for!!)
  • Tower of Terror (anyone know if the Summer Spectacular enhancements are staying on?)

Not to mention all the Christmas decorations, the Block Party Parade, Fantasmic and oh a little thing which I’m the most excited of all to see….. Osborne Spectacle of Lights!

Osborn-Lights.png

This is a Fantasmic day, but I’m not sure we’ll have the time to see it with the Osborne lights. The lights start at dusk which I think will be around 5:30 – 6pm-ish and then Fantasmic is at 6:30pm and the park closes at 7pm. I guess I’ll wait until closer to the trip to find out how that’ll play out.

Another full day!

But…..

it’s not over yet!

One of my main objectives this trip is to make it out to the different resorts to check out the Christmas decorations. Yesterday we started off by going to the Polynesian and today we’ve planned a visit to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for Boma!

BOMA_1_998.jpg

Holy cow am I excited for this ADR! I’m not usually one for trying out unusual type foods and Demetri doesn’t like anything super-spicy (aka flavor) but I’m pretty sure everyone will find something here. Even just the wood roasted meats sound delicious. Of course I must try the Zebra Domes which I’ve heard about recently but are apparently to die for and the Simba Paw Prints sound yummy too.

I’m most looking forward to the atmosphere and walking around the AKL. Our reservation is for 8:15pm which gives us plenty of time to close the park at DHS and then have the rest of the night to eat and explore AKL. Those familiar to my TR know that Ariana ADORES the Lion King and the African culture so she will be in absolute heaven here.

Can’t wait! So, what do you think?

You can get some neat special effect pics taken at HS. Well all of the parks really.

Special Photos

Also, not to burst you bubble, because seeing Captain EO at HS would be pretty cool, but isn't it at EPCOT?

Oh crap you're right! I was thinking of the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area. Whoops! Going back to edit!

I'm really looking forward to all the Stitch PhotoPass ones!

I'm so honored you mentioned me in your PTR :-) I'm so excited :banana::banana:for your special meal with Demetri.

I tried to also locate the name of that shop for your, because I've been in it too. And I also don't know the name of it. but we also went in it when we dined at Sci Fi Dine in, so it's gotta be right there. I think I found it on the map, but there isn't a name or anything. :headache: Hopefully someone else has more info for you.

Can't wait to read about your adventurous meal, I really wanted to book that place also, but I don't think we are ready for such adventurous eating. Have a zebra dome for me though ;)

I'm so excited you are going during Christmas decorations, I can't wait to see all your pictures.:)

Sounds like you have a great plan going. I really need to sit down and figure out park by park what I want to see.

I am wondering, what happens when you pull the TOT fuse?

Day 2 sounds great. I think it will be good for everyone to have some one-on-one time!
We kind of have Fantasmic up in the air. I'm not sure my kids will like it or not, so it's not a must-do for us. But if we can see it, we'll see it!

I hope it isn't like the "pull my finger" game.

:rotfl: Your welcome for the mentioning. I'm honored you consider it an honor ;)

I really hope some one recognizes that shop soon.... it's going to bug me until I know. :headache: I'm totally that way.

The kids and I were bored so we went to the Disney store this afternoon. I found a really cute Handy Manny polo shirt for Demetri to wear for our lunch. I found some other great things to come up in a future update!

Sounds like you have a great plan going. I really need to sit down and figure out park by park what I want to see.

Yeah, it's a good idea to figure out ahead of time your must-do's. Try to cross off those items but remember to take the time to see the details too.

I'm not totally clear on what happens when you pull the ToT fuse, but apparantly it's 'shocking' :scared: Supposedly it doesn't hurt but I'll be doing it first before the kids do.

Day 2 sounds great. I think it will be good for everyone to have some one-on-one time!

We all adore Fantasmic and it'd be a shame for Kathryn to miss it on her first trip, but the Osborne Lights totally take priority. ::yes::

This time we are adding US texting to our cell phones so we can stay in touch with one another. Those familiar with my TR might remember the debacle that was our first forage into separate plans without phones and we are NOT having a repeat! :sad2:

I hope it isn't like the "pull my finger" game.

Ooooooh dear. :crazy2:

Love your to-do list at DHS!! Sounds like so much fun!!!! I keep meaning to pull that handle in the fuse box at TOT and just never get to it! Hopefully next trip!!!!!
