Completed!

Please don't take my word on everything as this was a "Training" Cruise, and things are definitely subject to change.

Ah...the Disney Dream. Where do I begin? Let me start off by saying its HUGE! Anyone who has been on a Disney cruise knows its not common to be docked at Nassau and be bigger than another cruise ship, but we were the biggest ship docked.

When we came over the bridge to Port Canaveral and saw the two red signature DCL stacks, we were so excited! As we came closer we could make out the detail work of the ship and Sorcerer Mickey and his brooms on the back of the ship. We were pretty late arriving that day (Unplanned!) and were some of the last on the ship. Those first steps onto the Disney Dream felt great! The first thing you see is the enormous atrium and beautiful chandelier three floors up. It sparkled like crazy and is a completely different type of centerpiece from those on the Wonder and Magic. And let me just say there are chandelier-type light fixtures all over the Dream.

DSC_0351.JPG

The statue of Admiral Donald is situated in the usual spot in the atrium in front of a beautiful, black grand piano and the The Royal Palace (More on dining later!). From here, and after tons of pictures, we went to the Dreams equivalent of the Wonders Beach Blanket, Cabanas. Very nice and beachy looking, with the seagulls from Finding Nemo situated all over the restaurant. There is a huge Finding Nemo mosaic that is amazing.

Seats were tightly packed because of the amount of people eating lunch. The food was buffet style of course, and seemed to have a wider selection of items available.

The Staterooms: After a good lunch we were able to go to our veranda state room on the 9th floor. The rooms were quite similar to those on the other ships, however there were added touches that made a difference. The first thing you notice before even going into your room is the method of entry into your stateroom. The insert-your-key-to-get-in method had been done away with in favor of a new piece of technology, scanners. You simply hold your card up to the little black box and your door unlocks for you. Very convenient.

DSC_0453.JPG

Another thing that was pretty cool yet inconvenient at times was Disney Cruise Lines new way to be more eco-friendly. We thought the electricity in our stateroom wasn't working at first. In order to turn on you lights in your stateroom (Any lights at all, including the TV) you must insert your key to the world card into a card reader by the door.

DSC_0251.JPG

When you remove the card, lights go off and wont come back on until the card is re-inserted. Only one card fits in here at a time. This method prevents lights from being on in the room when no one is there. The lights will stay on for about two minutes after you move your card but it can be annoying when you're in bed watching TV and your husband takes his card out to go get food and everything turns off.

There are a few more added touches that improved the stateroom.
The noisy sliding doors on the closets have been replaced by actual doors with handles that open outward. No more doors sliding to and fro on choppy nights. There is more drawer space too. The beds are open underneath, adding greatly to storage space. The bed were like sleeping on a cloud with super soft sheets and matching comforter. (Don't remember if there are peep-holes in the doors on the other ships, but there are on the Dream)

DSC_0066.JPG

We were provided with two free "Wave Phones" to use on the ship. These are phones that you can use on the ship (not ship to shore phones) to call the other phone or your stateroom. This makes it easier for families to stay in touch on board, as well as on Castaway. There was no charge for the phones, and no charge to use the phones. Now, don't get too excited because we don't know much about this. Were not sure if it is something they will be continuing or if it was just for this preview cruise. But it was neat none the less.

The Pool Areas: Alright. The mystery of the missing hot tubs....

Good news, they do exist!

They are situated away from the pool near the windows on the side of the ship. The bad news, they don't make bubbles :( The jets blow but no soothing, bubbling, foaming water. The good news, there is a see through bottom in them. When you look through, you can see the ocean below.

DSC_0051.JPG

The pool is amazing. Im sure most of you have seen pictures of the adult pool, and it is equally as awesome as the picture. The bar in the pool is priceless. The pool is a tad on the small side, as there is only one "Circle" deep enough for actually swimming in. The part of the pool closest to the bar as you can see is only a few inches deep, the second circle is for swimming, and the third is for sitting in and relaxing.

DSC_0062.JPG

The mickey pool looks to be the same size as the ones on the other ships. There is an area called Nemo's Reef for small children where water shoots out of the ground, and has a mini slide as well. Of course there is the traditional yellow slide near the mickey pool.

DSC_0157.JPG

DSC_0049.JPG

The Donald/Family Pool is basically egg shaped with a picture of Donald snorkeling at the bottom. It seems a little small considering the size of the ship. And of course the giant screened TV is situated above here.

The Aquaduck: We rode the Aquaduck for the first time when it was cold and windy (We found the hot tubs quickly after that!) You climb the few flights of stairs to the top and climb in your two person raft, and off you go! That first time all we could think about was how cold the water was! It is much faster than it has been shown on online documentaries, and lights up at night! It only adds to the overall atmosphere of the Disney Dream. We really didnt have any waiting times because there were so few people on the cruise. However, there were signs that said "25 minutes from this point", and "45 minutes from this point". So that is what they must expect.

DSC_0160.JPG

The first show of the cruise was the Golden Mickeys! Which...has been changed. Some say for the better, some for worse. If you dont want to know the changes, dont read the next paragraph :)

Replacements:
- Roy Disney's "Live" video call has been replaced with one from Bob Iger
- Turk was replaced with Scuba Diving Goofy
- Ensign Benson's Dress at the end has been changed as well.

Cuts:
- The Trashing the camp scene Turk was removed
- The small piece with Princess Aurora was cut

Additions:
- A scene from Tangled was added
- A scene from beauty and the beast was added
- Small things from both Tangled and Princess and the Frog were added in the video portions

I think that's all, but some of these were pretty big changes. The staff was unsure if these changes will carry over to the Golden Mickey's shows on the Wonder and Magic.

The Walt Disney Theater was amazing. There is a balcony in addition to the copious space on the stage level. Of course there are touches of hidden Mickey's everywhere.

The Royal Palace: Following the show was cruise casual dinner night at The Royal Palace. This French Restaurant is a tribute to the classic Disney Princesses. The decorations scream Royalty. From the glass slipper chandelier to the carriage shaped bread baskets and the desert menus that look like royal invitations. There are beautiful wall paintings of the princesses, and the chairs are muted red and blue velvet. The food choices were wonderful and the taste was even better.

DSC_0286.JPG

Animators Palate: The second night was dinner at Animators Palate. This Animators is extremely different from the ones on the Wonder and Magic. No walls change color, but crush, Nemo and Friends do swim around from screen to screen and interact with guests. There was supposed to be a show at the end of dinner, but I think because it was a preview cruise they chose not to do it :( The food choices were poor in my opinion, including the desert menu.

The Enchanted Garden: This was on the third and final night of our voyage. The Enchanted Garden was truly beautiful with its shades of green and pink, with vines and flowers everywhere. The restaurant changes from day to night, but again they did not do it on our cruise. The lights were pink flowers that open and close throughout dinner. The cuisine was considered "Continental Market Menu" with items such as NY Strip Steak, and Tuna. This restaurant had by far the best dessert menu with things like Chocolate mousse cake, strawberry cheesecake, and bananas foster sundae. Of course all restaurants had the sweet temptations.

DSC_0092.JPG

Remy/Palo: Unfortunately we were unable to eat at either of these restaurants. Remy, at $75 a pop was just too expensive this time, and Palo was fully booked each night. Palo and Remy are located right across the hall from each other, separated by a common check-in/reservation station and a upper class bar called the Meridian. We did however sneak in to get pictures for you all!

Wonderful! More, more.

Did you think the adult pool was a bit small? I'm really curious as to how it seems in real life with a bunch of people in/around it.

Thanks!

Yay! So happy to read a report, and see your amazing photos! Can't wait to read the rest :thumbsup2

Animated Art: The animated art was a brilliant idea! Of course, not all art was animated, but most that were could be found near the elevators on different decks. Some were placed in strategic locations around the ship, and even in the Vista Art Gallery with the "Real" paintings. The animated art is motion activated, so it will show a stationary (Digital) picture when you first see it. When you walk by or wave a hand, it comes to life with a short scene for about 15 seconds, then returns to being a stationary picture. You can almost always tell which ones are animated art because they are lit from behind. Actually you find yourself looking harder at normal artwork to see if it is animated! One animated piece was interactive. There is a captains wheel in front of it, and you can steer around a pirate ship in a lagoon. Unfortunately like so many other things on the ship, it was being repaired.

Midship Detective Agency: This is a truly innovative thing that goes along with the animated artwork. Just go to one of the few stations around the ship (Only one was operational at the time) to join the agency. Here you can choose, through a touch computer, if you want to solve the case of the missing paintings, or the case of the missing puppies. Once you make your choice, you are assigned a badge with a special number specific to you, a suspect list, and a map of animated art paintings you have to visit all around, up and down the ship. At each animated art piece, you will use your badge to solve simple puzzles. The art knows where you hold and move your badge, making it interactive. You must use your badge to virtually unscrew screws, pop balloons, etc to find either a clue or a missing painting/puppy. At the final animated artwork, you will guess who the thief is. If you are right, you have to hurry on to a surprise location to catch the criminal! (Don't know what happens if you guess wrong, we never did!)

We saw kids (And adults) playing this throughout the ship each day. It seems to be a great thing to do when on board activities are sparse

Shopping: There are three stores, two that span into different sections/rooms, so its really more like five.

Mickeys Mainsail has all of the fun, more souvenir type merchandise such as vinylmation, toys and trinkets.

DSC_0115.JPG

Sea Treasures has a lot of clothing and cruise line specific merchandise, as well as some higher end items.

DSC_0114.JPG

White Caps is the shop the will break the bank. It sells fine (Really fine) jewelry, handbags, liquor, and expensive souvenirs.

DSC_0116.JPG

This all of course is located in front of the Walt Disney Theater.

Buena Vista Theater: Pretty much the same!

DSC_0174.JPG

There were so many clubs and lounges on the Dream that we didn't have time to go into all of them.
There is 687, Pink, Skyline Lounge, D Lounge, Evolutions.

687 - we did not go in to.
Pink - Sadly still under construction
Skyline Lounge - A nice, classy bar with darker wood tones (Sorry no picture)
D Lounge - This is where all of the comedians and game shows take place. Very colorful with dense foam chairs and a small bar.

DSC_0076.JPG

Evolutions - Again, a very colorful place. This dance club has lights galore including a multicolored dance floor, fiber optics on the roof, and lighted walls.

DSC_0318.JPG

Shutters: Shutters methods of getting the photos to the passengers has been completely re-designed. And it really looks great too. The pictures are put into each staterooms own personal "Folder" these folders are categorized in color, number, and character such as " Donald, Green, 58" like below. You scan your key to the world card and the computer tells you where your folder is located.

All of your photos are in here, and it saves you valuable relaxation time not having to walk around and search for your photos.

Children's Areas: Unfortunately because we have no children, and are not children ourselves, we could not get more than fleeting glimpses of the kids areas. Here are a few pictures through windows and such.

Sorry they're not the best pictures!

Pirate Party: The pirate party is another thing that has changed. Completely new songs, dances, and pirate show. Mickey no longer rip-lines across the funnels to save the day, and its much more kid-oriented rather than "Family" oriented.

As you can see from the pictures, the mickey pool and Donald pool are on the same section of the deck. Both pools can be covered to accommodate the crowd, however we didn't have too many people on this cruise, so it wasn't needed.

I'M SURE MANY OF YOU NOTICED THE GUY WHO LOOKS LIKE JOEY FATONE FROM THE NSYNC IN THE CROWD AT THE PIRATE PARTY...WELL IT IS!!!! HE APPARENTLY CRUISES WITH DISNEY ALL THE TIME.

DSC_0490.JPG

Buckaneers Blast: The fireworks show was much the same as the other ships, however they stop the fireworks every once in a while and a creepy voice sings "A pirates life for me"!!

Concierge Area: On one floor (Dont remember which) were the concierge staterooms. These are gate accessible with your key to the world card only. It sort of reminded us of the Titanic. There is also a designated area at the front of the ship where those lucky people can relax behind the privacy of glass walls.

DSC_0515.JPG

DSC_0148.JPG

Sports Deck: The sports deck was closed!! we were so upset. We caught a glimpse of the mini golf area, which is what we were excited about. The pic is hiding from me but it is on our Picasa picture link somewhere!

There were lights that were just under the surface of the water that light up the edges of the ship at night. Very pretty!

DSC_0249.JPG

For those of you who are curious, we found the Carnival Destiny life ring washed up on the shores of Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay. We asked if we could keep it and they said as long as it wasn't Disney's we could keep it! What a great souvenir (Even if it is from the enemy! lol)!

See Ya Real Soon Party: The princesses didnt come out as usual. The only character present were Captain Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Chip & Dale, Pluto and Goofy. We arent sure if this will be the norm or not. There was also a new Goodbye song.

Disney's Believe: Disney Cruise Line's Newest Show for the Walt Disney Theater! This is going to be the Dream's exclusive show, and it is one that pulls at your heart strings. It starts off a little "Eh" but transforms into a beautiful story about a Doctor (Well, okay really hes a Botanist) who learns to believe in magic and comes to learn that his daughter Sophia is "His Magic."He hasn't been paying as much attention to his daughter as he should. The genie takes the doctor through many magical moments from Disney movies such as the Cinderella, lion king, Princess and the Frog, and Pocahontas, Mary Poppins, and Beauty and the Beast while singing some of the most inspirational songs from the movies. Throughout each section the Doctor begins to come around to the idea that his love for his daughter is a magic that should be cherished. Now, I hope no one is too upset...but we couldn't get any pictures of this. The director was sitting literally right next to us and shot daggers at us when we tried to take pictures. They were also doing the official show photography from right behind us so they couldn't have lights of any sort (And our camera can be bright).

So, ask me anything you want about the show and I'll try to fill you in. As always the singing, dancing and acting were incredible.

If I remember anything I have left out I will be sure to rush back to post it ASAP.

Hope you all enjoyed the photos and reading about the Disney Dream.

Thanks for reading!!

It looks like Mickey's ears are no longer raised wading pools like on the Wonder or Magic. And that it also is covered for deck parties to accomodate the greater number of passengers I guess.

Pics are great! Thanks for posting :)

Great report, can not wait for more.

Can I ask you, what was the preview cruise, was it for travel agents or just dcl enthusiasts?

:)
