Disney Dream preferred location on deck 7, 8, 9?

After getting hit with COVID the day before leaving for WDW this week (ugh to the max), we (me, wife, girls 11/13) moved our UNI/WDW trip to March 2023. That said, we are now looking to go on a 4 night cruise on the Disney Dream this October 2022 so we have a trip between now and when we go back to UNI/WDW next year.

We are going to book a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on the Disney Dream and being that we have never been on the Dream, we are looking for tips on which deck/location (likely mid-ship) for this room type.

Suggestions?

We are a fan of that category mid-ships on Deck 7. There is a 'break' in the hallway where it shifts from the standard verandah rooms to the longer 5 person verandahs. Right about that start of the large verandahs is nice because you are far enough away from the stairwell to not get noise but not too long a walk to get back to the mid-ships stairs/elevators. We like deck 7 because we use the stairs all of the time to try to fight gaining too much weight. You are only 4 floors down to the restaurants and 4 floors up to the pool deck.

I would pick one the verandah cabins inside the red box:

Only cabins above, below, beside, or across from you. The ones closer to the elevator, too. Pretty much an every cruise rule for cabin location.

Empty spaces on deck plans are often crew work areas, that seem to have a lot of movement through loud doors. (I would rather be directly across from an elevator bank; they are surprisingly less noisy).

I skipped the first room on each side based on the possible placement of cabin door near the bend in the hallway. I wouldn’t rule out those rooms.

They sleep a max of 4 (some only sleep 3) but we love the 4E staterooms right at the very aft of the ship. They are Deluxe oceanview staterooms with oversize verandahs. The verandahs are amazing. Deck 9, then 8, then 7. If you are on Deck 9 it is just a quick dash up the aft stairs to Cabanas. Deck 8 or 7 aren’t too bad either.

Thanks for the reply. For the cruise we are going on only 8100 was available near the red box you posted. Good choice? Or book on deck 7 in an area like the red box you have for deck 8? I see many others have mentioned deck 7 also.

Depending on your cruise date in October I just saw 9674 available. I have stayed in it and it is a great cabin and Verandah.

Is there a lot more vibration or rocking at the very back of the ship?

We always stay in the aft 4E cabins on the Dream and Fantasy - we love them and have booked one on the Wish. You definitely feel vibration during docking but for us the location and Verandah outweigh that. We never found the movement of the ocean back there to cause any of us sea sickness.

For my son who is more prone to motion sickness we put the drop down berth mattress on the floor. Because that sways a bit when it hangs down. That worked well.

You also get a fabulous view of Castaway Cay from that cabin. All the staterooms on the starboard side of the ship overlook the beach on Castaway Cay.

This review is older when they were called 5E cabins. Plus the aft cabins have always had two loungers as well as two chairs and a small table for all of our cruises.

There are very few midship verandahs that meet all the criteria I listed - the missing factor on most is the space across from them.

I don’t think i would let that stop you from booking any of the rooms that category.

I probably would pay the small difference for Deck 8 over Deck 7 to get you higher up over the lifeboats for a better view. You might not notice it, so i wouldn’t get fixated in it. Or in getting just the right room. Very few are truly bad. And what someone likes, others may not notice. I just don’t like the sound of slamming doors. (On NCL, it was a workers’s door directly above me. A lot of people will not book under the pool deck, as the workers move the loungers early in the morning.

I‘lol go check the cabin reviews and see if 8100 has any glaring problems.

One review for Dream stateroom 8100. Thought it was very quiet. She pointed out that as a port side room, you are not on the lagoon side when docked at Castaway Cay. Rooms on the starboard side like 8500 or 8600 (it’s the second #, either 5 or 6, that are on that side) are preferred by a lot of people for the view, especially when the ship pulls in to dock.

(Cabin reviews can be round on this website. At the top of the page, find DCL (you may have to arrow right if don’t see it). It will take you to a page Where you choose Cabin Reviews. The next choice should have a “Look for [open space]. Just type in the number. Not every cabin is reviewed - and they list all the ships. Remember to make sure you are looking at a review for your ship (from my experience).

Thanks for all of the tips. For the most part, all of the reviews of the open rooms are solid. It is a bit of a coin flip between the mid ship rooms. Hesitant about the very aft room with more deck space as the vibrations on the Magic last Dec were bad in the aft section and did bother my daughter.

For reference, here are the rooms available to pick from mid ship:

We have sailed on the Dream twice. First trip we were in 9646, it’s a great room, so great we booked it again for this October. On our May trip, we were on deck 7. Can’t recall the stateroom number (not helpful, sorry!) but I know that 9646 was a great location for us.

We love deck 5 on the Fantasy - room 5022 is HUGE and it’s not a verandah, but the two giant portholes and split layout are amazing. Sadly, it only sleeps three I believe. Our son is 14 and goes to Vibe and he loved that we were literally down the hall from Vibe on deck 5. Edge is higher - so our stateroom location mattered less for our daughter.

If you prefer one of those rooms in the pictures you posted, I would go with 7586. It is starboard and non connecting. Or any of the three rooms starboard on deck 9. But any of those rooms would be fine.

We switched gears and decided to save $1800 and went with VGT guaranteed room as we have done once before. Since it’s only a 4 night cruise, the more we thought about it the less the room location mattered to us so long as we still have a verandah.
