Thanks for all the info from the dis boards. I'm not too familiar with all the computer lingo so I'm going to write as i normally do. Just thought I'd share my experience and provide some insight from our trip. It was a great trip, we were active all the time, and did the Stingray Excursion in the Bahamas and rented the snorkel/tubes/bikes on Castaway Cay.

We are a family of four with an 8 yr old boy and a 5yr old girl. This is our first disney cruise but we have been on cruises before. We arrived from the west coast and checked into Hyatt Regency MCO. The lobby receptionist gave us an sheet upon check-in about what would happen the next day. They informed us they would start collecting luggage from our rooms at 8:30am and to have our bags tagged and ready to go. This was going to be a slight problem for us as we weren't planning to get up until about 9am, since we were on west coast time, I didn't want to force the kids to get up at an ungodly hour. They said they usually start on the top floor and work down (we were on floor nine out of ten floors). She informed us the first bus leaves around 10am.

After tagging the luggage and reading the map, I realized there was a problem that I never learned from these boards. The instructions said if any member of your party is not a US citizen, you are not allowed to check-in at the shuttle service at the airport, and need to check in at the port. My heart sank, as I thought we'd be able to avoid the lines, after reading these boards over and over again. My husband is a Canadian citizen with a permanent green card and the rest of us are US Citizens. But this would be a total blessing in disguise more than once as will be later revealed.

We had a forgettable dinner at the food court at the airport and went to the pool at the hotel. The pool was slightly cool, but coming from 40 degrees and rain, the kids didn't care. I set the alarm for 9am (6am west coast time), hoping the luggage folks would spare us. The next morning, I still had to wake up the kids begrudgingly, ran downstairs to Starbucks to grab food and when I got back to the room at 9:30 my DH said they called and would be collecting our luggage in 15 minutes. Perfect timing! We waited til almost ten, but they hadn't shown, so we shrugged our shoulders and hoped for the best.

We arrived downstairs at the Shuttle area, and lo and behold there was a separate line for non US citizens, they would not check us in, but they did give us Boarding Group number 4 and our shuttle passes. The shuttle ride was painless, kids enjoyed the video that ran entire time. We arrived at the port around 11:15 and there was a bit of chaos. For those who had checked in, they encouraged people to go to the right and register the kids into the kids club. That line looked horrendous. The regular check in line looked pretty bad, but the non US citizen line? Well there was NO line, we walked right up to to the counter and checked us in, took our pictures in about 2 minutes. He also gave us a NEW boarding group number 2!! I didn't tell him about our other boarding number. He said, "you guys are lucky, i've seen some people come up with boarding number 39, that's really bad", so I said, "So what is it based on?", and he said it was based on when you checked in online. I was confused by this, because I had just picked a random day a few weeks before the cruise when I was slow at work to put in all the information, I didn't realize this would affect our boarding time.
"So when do you start boarding?" I asked. He gave me a wink and said "Officially or unofficially?", He said, "Officially, noon, but unofficially about 11:40-11:45". We went to the bathroom and looked at the kids club line in disdain. But we decided to stand in it. After 10 minutes we moved very little, and I asked someone, "Is it really necessary to stand in this line? Can't we just register them as soon as we board?", "Yes", they told me, "but it will be more chaotic on board so it's best to register them now."

Sure enough, around 11:45, they called the family of the day, followed shortly by boarding group 1. So I went over to the same guy and said, "We are boarding group 2, so should we skip this kids line and board?". He said "Yes. Definitely, Go! Go!". So we bolted. We were on by 11:55 and headed straight to Deck 5 to the kids club area, which happened to open at Noon! there was only one family there, and they were re-registering their kids from a back to back cruise. I don't know if we got lucky, or if the guy at the port was trying to avoid having huge line-ups on Deck 5, but the kids club opened shortly after and we registered them very quickly.

We went to Cabanas and had a nice lunch, then went to the pool area which was already very crowded. Unfortunately, this will be the first and last time we will eat at Cabanas due to our excursions. I've read people complain about the crowds and the kids, but if any of you have been to disneyland (I grew up in Anaheim so I've been there a few times), :cheer2: and basically this is Disneyland on a boat. It's complete happy organized chaos and we loved it! Kids everywhere, long lines, disney characters walking around in the heat and happy cast members. Whaddya expect? Everyone was happy and running around and this is what we should expect from Disney. Once I took the kids on a Carnival cruise and I think I saw the same 3 kids at the pool the entire 3 days. This is not that type of cruise.

It was close to 1:30, which is when the rooms would be ready. We went to Deck 9, we were in 9656 aft about 4 doors down from the aft elevators, great location, and by the stairways I spotted our luggage. "Look our luggage made it!" and one of the disney members quickly retorted "Yes we will deliver it to you!" (i.e. don't touch it). There were lots and lots of bags, and the chances of our bags being delivered in the next few minutes were almost nil. After I read the boards, I didn't think we'd have a chance to board the ship and eat so quickly, so I did not carry on our bathing suits. But now the kids had seen the pool area and were dying to swim.

We checked out our room, it was beautiful, and very large. A couch the converts to a bed and then a pulldown bed from the wall right next to the porthole. And the porthole itself? GIGANTIC! Both my kids could fit in the little perch/cushion area, they actually wanted to sleep there. I said, "Wow, do you guys know how lucky you are? your dad and I were never able to go on cruises when we were little." My smart mouthed son responded "Well, maybe they didn't have cruise ships back then when you were young". "Yes they did!!", I yelled back, "We just couldn't afford to go on them". During this retort, I heard a frantic knock on our door only to find my husband had collected our luggage when the disney guys weren't looking. I started to freak out, "What are you doing? Do you want to get us kicked off this ship?? We haven't even left the port yet!! What if they have a system and you messed up their system?? What if they brand us as "that family that stole their own luggage?", what if they send us to "disney jail??!?", Yes, I was a bit dramatic and scaring the kids at this point, "Hurry get the bathing suits out and return the luggage without anyone noticing!!!". So my husband with his stealth skills, returned the bags, and all was well with the universe. Whew. I wonder what would happen if we had been caught.

Part II Off to the Pool! There's a lot to say in the beginning, but will try to make the next few segments shorter!

Disney jail.....love it! :rotfl2:

Sounds like something my DD would say. She just loves making reference to how "OLD" I am!!:rotfl: (I am 36 by the way, yeah, I'm really old.)

I am so interested in your report, amazingly, we booked the exact same stateroom as you, 9656! Our sailing is on 5/29-6/3, 5 night though and get this, our children are 8 & 5 as well! My husband isn't a Canadian, but sometimes he wishes he was:) Write on, my friend, write on!

Part II

So off to the pool, the area is fairly small, and the kids ran back and forth to the Mickey Pool, the deep pool, Nemo’s reef and the Mickey Slide (about a 10 min wait average). My advice for the Aquaduck would be this. If the line is past the bottom of the stairs, forget about it, it will take 45 minutes minimum. We waited for opportune times when the line was about midway up the first set of stairs and from there it took about 25 minutes. The kids LOVED the Aquaduck, and they wanted to ride it over and over. In the evening, there is absolutely no line, but by that time you have changed and are ready for dinner. Maybe if both kids were older, we would have let them ride in the evening, but because my daughter was not old enough to ride by herself, neither of us were willing to change back into our suits after we had showered and were ready for dinner.

After an entire 2 hours of stuffing our faces at Cabanas had passed, my husband was eying the panini sandwiches at Flo’s. He left and I must have turned my head for a minute and I couldn’t find the kids. The last time I saw them was at Nemo’s Reef, and I circled over and over again for about 5 minutes, I began to panic a little, but I was more annoyed than anything. I was hoping I would find them before I find my husband because I didn’t want to hear it from him. Simultaneously, I spotted my husband biting into his panini and the kids around the Mickey slide area. “Why did you leave Nemo’s Reef without telling me?” My son said, “We decided to go to the hot tub to warm up”. When we go swimming at our gym at home, the kids like to swim and go back and forth from the pool to the hot tub, but usually there are about 8 people in the entire pool. So I gave them a stern lecture, “This is not like at home, there is no way we can find you or keep track of you so you have to have either mommy and daddy in sight at ALL times! And why do you need to go to the hot tub when it’s 85 degrees outside?? And where is the hottub??” So off to the side near the Mickey Slide, there was indeed a hotttub!

We were not going to entrust our kids with the cellphones that Disney provided, there is a substantial charge if you lose them, and to be honest my son would lose the nose on his face if it were scientifically possible.

We went back to our cabin and changed to get ready for the sailaway party. Our favorite spot to view the shows were Deck 12 starboard right near the stage. We would show up about 10 min before the shows and it was fine. Deck 11 is ground level to the show, and unless you show up early you will be at least 10-20 rows back, but the higher deck provided an angle for the kids to see everything. It was perfect for the firework show as well during pirate night.

We chose the late dining due to our west coast time zone schedule, so we decided to try out the Detective Agency game before the Golden Mickey Show. It’s a great game, and both kids were able to play their own cards. There are two different games to choose from, and even within the game there are different clues so the kids each enjoyed their own ending. We have been to the Hong Kong Disneyland this past summer and saw the Golden Mickey’s so this was a bit of a repeat for us, but still enjoyable. All the shows were good, typical Disney caliber. If you’ve seen Aladdin at California Adventure, or other similar Disney shows you will know what to expect.

We decided to grab some fries at Flos and take it back to our room before dinner and my son was very worried, “Is that legal? Can you do that?” We've been to all inclusives before but taking food back to the room was a foreign concept to him. We headed back to our room, and met our cabin person Freddy. My son actually ran ahead and the door was open, as he was turning down our cabin, but Freddy had politely asked him to step out of the room. Apparently Disney has a rule that employees are not allowed to be in a room with a minor at any time. What a great rule I thought! He was very nice about it, but firm about the rule, even though we were only a few yards behind our son. I can see this in the future being very comforting when my daughter is 14 and she goes back to her cabin to retrieve something and finds a Disney employee there. He made a towel for the kids and gave them extra chocolate, explained the electric outlet for the blow dryer, the AC control and left. Very unintrusive but helpful. By the way, all our service was excellent, our wait staff and Freddy had all been on the Dream since Germany in December, and most of their contracts were up in April. All the shows and dinners ran smoothly.

Now for the food. Disclaimer: We like to travel and eat, and we enjoy all types of ethnic foods, so we are a bit of foodies. The food was okay, nothing spectacular. On the last night we went to Palos, so we missed Animator’s Palate. The kids also eat pretty much what we eat, and when we go to restaurants, we try to avoid the kid’s menu for them. Although my son would like to have a hamburger breakfast, lunch and dinner, we decided to limit his hamburger intake to one a day. Enchanted Garden was our first stop, we were seated with another family who had children of similar age (I assume Disney makes an effort to do this). They were very nice and we chatted a bit the next few nights. It's impossible not to do so.

We ordered appetizers for all four of us from the adult menu. I ordered my son the grilled salmon from the kids menu, and the seared tuna salad for my daughter (my 5yr old's favorite two foods are sashimi and lamb chops). I ordered fish (I forgot which kind!) and my husband ordered the NY Steak. Again the service was excellent, the food was above average, everything was cooked well but a little bland for me. For dessert, my kids opted for the mickey mouse ears ice cream and after scanning the menu, my husband opted for the same (sometimes I think I have 3 kids), I ordered some type of spongy cake thing which again was just ok. We are not huge drinkers, we bought a bottle of wine that I knew would last us for both dinners and they told us they would bring the bottle to our next restaurant. Dinner was from 8:15-10pm, perfect amount of time.

The kids wanted to try out the kids club so after dinner we signed them in, and went to the District to watch Freddy Fusion- a magician/comedian of sorts. Here is my opinion of the kids club, it's very big and there are lots of rooms and activities to choose from. There are plenty of group activities, cast members interacting with kids, games being played, movies, crafts, computers, etc. Having said that, my kids are on the shy side. They would be the last people to raise their hands when someone asks for a volunteer or participate in a group activity. When we picked them up an hour later, they said they enjoyed it, and they would like to go back. The two of them went and explored all the rooms and of course they enjoyed the computer stations the most which is where I found them. I think it helped that they had each other. I think if it were just my daughter, or the child was 4 or 5, it would be a little overwhelming. When we were checking them in, there was a boy about my son's age who came to the front claiming he had been there for six hours, the cast member scanned his band, and said "Look Johnny, there is no way you have been here for six hours! It says here you checked in at 8:24 and it's 10, you've been here an hour and a half now run along!!" She had a British accent which made it sound even funnier- Mary Poppins-esque.

You are required to carry your disney cell phones at all times when the kids are in the kid's club and of note, they only vibrate, so if you have it in a purse and are not carrying your purse, you may miss a call. We didn't think the kids would be coming back for a while as we had an excursion planned the next day. The bracelet is like a wristwatch and a bit clunky. They were very accommodating and cut off the wristband, and told us to keep the scanner part, and they would be happy to replace the wristband part but if we lost the scanner part it would be $50. We promptly put it in our safe when we got back to the cabin. Tried to get kids in bed by 11:30 as we had to meet for our stingray excursion by 9:45am. It was a good first day.

So looking forward to your next report. We are staying at the Hyatt as well, and it sounds like when you board the ship is a predetermined event? Is that so? How does one rate on the food chain? Do you have any insight on this subject? Tell me more about 9656, I was starting to think that we reserved the motion sickness room, did your kiddo's have any problems?

I think the first bus leaves around 10, I suppose if we had gotten to the ME earlier we would have been boarding group 1. The boarding groups get called rather quickly, maybe every 5-7 minutes. I think if you were to take the first shuttle at 10 and arrive by 11, they still would not let you on the ship until 11:45ish. We were not in a hurry, and actually surprised we were able to get boarding group 4, and even more surprised to get boarding group 2 when we got to the port woohoo Canadians!

The earlier you board, the less crowded Cabanas will be, and the more time you will have at the pools/aquaduck. As the afternoon wore on, it became more crowded. In hindsight, we should have brought our bathing suits because if you wait for your luggage to be delivered, it could be well into the afternoon.

My kids and I did not feel sick at all, the four days we were in the sea, there was no rain, and barely any wind so maybe we were lucky. Our tablemates were on the 10th floor and had the same sentiment, no motion sickness. My husband did put on a dramamine patch and he felt fine during the entire trip. We did bump into some people we knew on the ship, they were staying on 9th floor forward, and the wife said she wasn't feeling well, and needed anti nausea medication and the patch, so I think it just depends on the individual.

The room is great!! there's a little curtain partition so when the kids are sleeping, you can still have your side of the room lit and read or whatever. I liked that both beds were on the floor, and there wasn't a bunk, i just felt if my kids had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, they would have less likelihood of falling. The showerhead was wonderful, both my daughter and I would take a shower together after a long day at the beach and there was plenty of room. She actually wanted to take a bath, because the shower also can be a small tub, but I tried to convince her that it was only for babies. The room is close to the aft elevators, which are far less crowded than the main elevators, I did have an issue with the laundry which I will explain later in my future post.

I also have this stateroom booked for 6/12! :thumbsup2 My kids are 11 and 9 - also with "ancient" parents of 40 and 41 :lmao:

Wonderful report!! Keep it coming. The stateroom sounds great.. :) anxious to read about the "laundry" issue..

Part III

Dragged ourselves out of bed at 9am, restful sleep, wasn’t even aware we had docked in the Bahamas until we opened our window. Our tickets had arrived the night before to meet at 9:45 for our Captain Blackbeard’s Stingray Excursion. By the time we left our cabin, it was 9:30 and we literally had 10 minutes to eat, we grabbed what we could at Cabanas and headed down to Deck 4. I really wished we could have enjoyed the food a little more at Cabanas, they had a great selection but time was of essence. The boat ride was about 30 minutes, enough time to enjoy the sights and put on sunscreen. We arrived at Blackbeard’s island, and were instructed to grab some beach chairs. There was literally no one else on the island, it was our own private getaway (about 50 of us). The kids were so excited to see the beach, but the water was frigid. We have been to the Caribbean before and I don’t remember the water being this cold! Maybe it’s the wrong time of year? Anyway, once you got in it was okay, but I thought it was much colder than I remembered (about 10 years ago). They called us over and fitted us with snorkel gear and life vests. I would say 90% of kids under the age of five were crying, partly because it was cold, and partly because the stingrays would swim right up to you, and this was somewhat frightening to the little kids, even though they informed us they had removed the sting from the rays. These stingrays were mostly rescued from local fisherman. My daughter, 5 1/2 was a trooper, no tears were shed but she was not a happy camper. My son who’s a pretty good swimmer got right into the thick of things, after about 20 mintes of snorkeling, they came out with the food. Feeding the stingrays was difficult, you actually have to dive down to their level and feed them, they will not come up and eat it from your hand. I didn’t even bother to try with my daughter, and my husband had to push my son down into the water to get him low enough. By this time, most of the kids were out of the water and onto the other side of the beach, they were done! We stayed a bit longer, and one of the instructors actually had a stingray in his hand, and we were all able to pet it, and learn some traits. The excursion says age 4+ but I would at least wait until age 6 unless your child is a confident swimmer. Maybe if it were a little warmer it would have helped.

Afterwards, we played on the beach and around noon they called us to the snack bar for burgers or hot dogs/chips/and a drink. There’s also a bar if you would like to purchase alcohol. The beach was great and really had a private feel. Around 2pm we headed back to our ship. On the way back I think the local guide may have been confused with another cruise line. He said everyone who had fun yell “yeah!!”, and so everyone yelled “yeah”, and everyone who had a really good time yell “hell yeah!!”, and my daughter not understanding yelled “hey yeah!!”. I thought it was a little inappropriate with so many little kids on board. By the time we walked back to the boat, it was 3pm, and of course since we were already dressed for the part, the kids wanted to go straight back to the Aquaduck. We obliged and then grabbed our obligatory French fries from Flos back to our cabin after the kids pirate show. The excursion took the whole day from 10 to 3, and I’d say it’s one of the cheaper excursions that Disney has to offer. All in all, if your kids like the beach, I’d say it’s a good deal.

Our tablemates had chosen the dolphin excursion. They had been to Sea World the day before the cruise and thought it was a little redundant. They also said the boat ride was almost an hour, because they had to pick up another group. I’m not sure if this is the norm, or it was on this particular day. They had enjoyed it but felt a little sorry for the dolphins, and felt they were not in their natural habitat, and had a “caged up” feeling.

That evening was Villains and dinner at Royal Palace. The food was much better, my husband had the rack of lamb, I had the wild boar, my son had some chicken thing from the adult menu, and my daughter had the steak from the kids menu. The escargot appetizer was yummy. My daughter’s steak was cooked well done, which I guess is how they would prepare it for kids, but a little tough. For dessert, crème brulee for me, mickey mouse ears ice cream for the kids, and my husband of course chose from the kids dessert menu again and elected for the princess mini cupcakes. That evening was pirate night and fireworks, at 10:30 which was viewed again on Deck 12 starboard, and by the time it was over, we were exhausted and headed back to the cabin and ready for our next stop- Castaway Cay.

Day 3 (already!) and we were in Castaway Cay! This time we “slept in” until 9:30, and mozied up to Cabanas around 10:15. I actually enjoyed the buffet at Cabanas, but unfortunately never had lunch there. There is no omelet station, but if you go to the deli meat area, you can ask for an omelet and they will fix you one. I’m not sure if people were aware of this, as it is not advertised. It does take a while though, but in about 10 minutes, a ham and cheese omlete was delivered to our table. We walked off the boat around 11, and got off the second tram stop as people had recommended on these boards where the bike station, cookies too, and pelican plunge were located. We didn’t have trouble finding beach chairs, but we were towards the back rows. We knew what to expect from the water temperature, but we had rented the snorkel/tube/bike package.

My daughter must have been traumatized from the stingray excursion. She was not excited to put on the snorkel gear, we tried to entice her with buried treasures, buried mickeys and minnies but no can do. After about 10 minutes of crying and what sounded like child abuse, I gave up and stayed with my daughter on the beach. My husband and son went out for a good hour. They saw tons of fish and found a buried anchor. We had purchased an underwater camera (a real one, not the throwaway ones, and the pictures came out really well). It may be worth the investment if your family likes water activities. My son and husband also did the Pelican Plunge, but the line was long there so they only did it once. "It's like Great Wolf Lodge on the beach!", described my husband.

We had lunch at Cookies Too and then went to the bikes to try to burn off some calories. Unfortunately, they don't have tandems but my daughter was still small enough to ride in the child seat with my husband. They do have bikes with training wheels, but there was no way my daughter could have kept up with us for the entire hour. We followed the trails which were fairly easy, and took some pictures along the way. Around 3:30pm, we decided to head back to the ship.

It was time to do a load of laundry and get ready for Palo......

:thumbsup2 Loving this report - it's making me excited for our cruise, and I'm getting some ideas! I think we'll do the bikes on CC, too - and maybe the snorkeling. Did your kids like the bike trail?
