Disney Dream - June 9, 2013 - 4 night

I got too excited. I'm such a list maker I said I would bust out the spreadsheet. I'm more than happy to let you keep the list. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

How large were the fish extender groups on your previous cruises? This one seems a bit quiet.

I aa lover of spreadsheets as well, but think keeping a back up is a good idea. Yes, it does seem quiet. I wonder if we need to be sure there isn't a other meet up thread going that someone missed us over here. We had a decent number of folks in the last one on our Alaska cruise.

I'm thinking it might pick up closer to spring break when people start booking excursions. In reading the other boards, it appears that the three and four night cruises may have less activity. This is our first Disney cruise so I don't know what the history is. I'm going to look around at the other threads close to our cruise and see what kind of activity they are getting. Here's hoping.

We are going on this cruise too!! I don't have our room number handy. It will be myself, my 23 yr old nephew and my 2 nieces ages 1 and 11 at the time of sailing!

Yikes my one niece is 11 not one, lol. She would not be happy if I didn't correct that one!

Never been on a cruise ever and just booked yesterday for me and DH to take DD in June. Was told this board was a "must" so we could meet others on the same cruise. A little nervous about the whole thing but hope it will be so much fun!

Wonderful! So what ages do we have do far? My two DS will be 7 and 11. Our friends In the cabin next to us I believe have a DD 12 yrs old and two DS - 8 and 10? I guess I should figure that out! Can't wait for next summer.

My DD is 10 (turns 11 just a mere 9 days after we return from cruise)!

I'm so glad more people are finally joining us on the board. I'm also thrilled to see other girls approximately my DD age. She's a very tall 8. She fancies herself 16. I just went out and bought the materials to make my very own fish extender. I'm a novice sewer. I had to consult youtube yesterday to remember how to thread the bobbin, but I'm giving it a go anyway. Feel free to say yes of no to a fish extender at some point so we can keep the list going.

I have no clue what a "fish extender" is or what that group (if that's what it is) does.... Anyone care to elaborate to a newbie here?

Sorry, should have posted this with the other post but wasn't thinking that far ahead :-) How come some people already know their cabin # and some of us don't? How do we find out? I've booked, paid in full and requested my choice of specific room and deck....

If you search the dis boards for fish extender there are some good threads about it.

Regarding the room number, I got mine from my travel agent when I booked.

A simple explanation on the Fish Extender is that outside your cabin door, there is a metal fish that cruise staff leave mail, etc. A fish extender kind of reminds me of a hanging shoe rack, with small pockets and fun decorations. Ours has our family name on it and several pockets. When you join the group, you are signing up to make secret little gifts for each of the cabins participating and you also will receive gifts. The kids love to go and sneak around the ship to leave behind our gifts. Usually you do one gift per cabin, but some people like to do specific gifts for kids or adults. There are some wonderfully crafty people out there, but you don't have to be crafty to participate. We have given gifts that reflect our home town, while we have received a wide variety of items. On our last cruise just a sampling - a homemade Disney cruise line recipe book, a journal, magnets, a cloth bag printed with cruise name and date, a neat paper lantern from singapore, etc. it's a lot of fun and the kids loved coming back to the cabin and seeing what had been left behind.

I'll try a new area of discussion ... what is one tip you have discovered about Disney cruising that you definitely want to try on this cruise or will definitely do again if you are experienced in Disney cruises.

Would have to say Remy's.

Hi there! My family and I will be cruising the Dream! We can't wait!!

My daughters will be 8yo and 6 1/2yo. We are traveling with my Dad and Step Mom, along with my sister, brother in law, and their 3 boys - 12yo, 9yo, and 6 1/2yo.

This is everyone's first cruise, so we are super excited, but nervous too! I am a pro at WDW Parks, but this is overwhelming to plan! My girls LOVE Disney and have experienced the parks several times, my nephews have never been so they are in for a real treat when they see how "magical" Disney can be.

I am looking forward to the dinners where the kids eat first then they go to the club so that us adults can actually talk. We never get this chance and this is like my #1 "Want to do". My sister's #1 is "having coffee on the verandah". And then the kids all have Aqua Duck as #1. My husband talked to another soccer dad here at home who said his best memory from their cruise was doing the scavenger hunt and showing the artwork to his kids. That's now his #1 thing. And for my Dad and StepMom, they can't wait to do the Wine Tasting! I think my BIL is just going with the flow.

I'm thinking, again just thinking, not making the commitment yet, about participating in the FE. I know my sister won't have time to do one for her so I'd have to do double duty to get stuff for her as well. I think their would be a lot of jealous boys once they see what we would have in our FE. Can anyone tell me about how many families usually participate? 20? 100?

THANK YOU RunnerMomO! I'm still trying to find my way around these forums to find what I'm looking for - so much info.!

I think at this moment only two families have formally committed to doing a FE. As a first time Disney cruiser and FE participant, I'm hoping it stays pretty small. I think as a group we may be able to split into multiple groups if it gets to be too big. I'm new to this as well. RunnerMom may have a better answer since she has cruised before.

Welcome aboard. I have an 8 year old step daughter. I'm not sure I will be able to get her out of the kid's club except for the aquaduck. She doesn't know we are going yet. I'm going to try to get her to do at least one thing outside the kid's club so the grandparents can join in. We are travelling with both sets of parents, my husband's parents and mine. There are a lot of adults and only one kiddo.

Hello RunnerMom...

You stated in a thread that you are keeping track of the fish extender participants. My family of four will be on the Dream Cruise on June 9th. We would love to join in the fish extender fun. It will be myself and hubby, and our daughter-7 and son-5. Thank you for organizing this.

I do have a question...
When will the list of participants be finalized? I am planning to make a gift that will take a bit of time. Of course, I will need to know how many to make. This is our first cruise ever.
:cool1:

We would love to participate in the FE too! It will be myself and my DNephew 23 (if he isn't taking summer classes), my nieces ages 16 and 10 (almost 11). I have some ideas too but haven't started anything definite yet!

Fish Extender thus Far. I think shooting to close out 1 month out is typical, but we may get a few stragglers. Please let me know of any corrections needed. Thanks!

BetsyRNBSN, this is our first cruise ever as well (Me, DH and DD) and my DD is 10 (will be 11 just days after we return from cruise). Glad to see someone else with a daughter of the same age. I'm sure there will be many more but it's always nice to know ahead of time :-)
