Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Question:
I received an email from Disney today about our upcoming cruise and in it the note said about packing for the trip:

Days
• Casual wear (shorts, slacks, sundresses, jeans)
• Comfortable shoes (sandals, sneakers, boat shoes)
• Beach and pool wear (swimsuits, wraps, t-shirts)
Evenings
• Don’t forget a jacket or sweater. Yes, it’s the tropics, but the nights can be a bit breezy.
• Nice dining attire (no swimwear, tank tops or shorts at dinner, please)
• Optional formal attire
• Themed attire is welcome for Pirates IN The Caribbean night.

My question is, is it really true that no one can wear shorts in the restaurants? I thought it was ok as long as they were nice shorts, khaki's, dress shorts etc.
Is that wrong?
I had even planned a nice pair of dress shorts for one evening.

I think the official line is no shorts but you will see some people wearing them. The only time we do shorts is for pirate night just because it is so much more casual. The rest of the time it is dockers/polo shirts for the boys and sundresses or slacks/nice top for us girls.

We are about 90% packed. Just have some last minute items to add and we should be ready to go. We leave Friday after work. I can't believe after all this time it is finally almost here. I hope the work week goes quickly because I am ready to get this show on the road.

Schools out for summer!!!!!!
We had a huge turnout for our "Graduation" from our Special Needs Preschool Program. We had 16 graduates and every student had someone there. 2 had just 1 parent, but several had 6 to 9 extra people with them. It was so special, but stressful as each parent wanted to speak to me and take pictures. It was hard not to cry when they were crying and thanking me for coming into their child's life To think, after all the stress the last month or so I was thinking about early retirement. After the comments made by the parents, I was reminded why I do what I do Friday was the last day and was bittersweet. It was very hard to say goodbye to my little buddy who has terminal brain cancer. The doctors are not sure he will still be here to start Kindergarten in the fall. Tears were flowing. I will see him again this week as I made a photo book for his mom and will be meeting with them to give them their memory book.

That must be so hard. Although my Special Needs Daughter does not have any physical disabilities, I appreciate all that her teachers have done for her over the years. So a special Thank You to you, Beth, for being there for all of those children and parents.

Now I can finish my FE gifts (I think I went a bit overboard, but am having fun!) and start packing the things I have been throwing in our cruise box. We leave on June 10th. I have had the oil changed, brakes checked, tires rotated, front right wheel bearing housing (?) changed, new headlight put in, and new wiper blades installed. So now once I clean out, vacuum, wash and gas it up, the van is ready to go! Dogs have had their updated shots and I bought an extra bag of their food for the kennel. We have our documents and tags, so I just need to print out the forms from online. I found a neighbor girl who will give the twice daily pills to our 20 year old cat (whew!) and stocked up on cat food for the 4 cats
The one area I am very behind in is making our shirts and magnets. I work Tues and Wednesday and then we have a swim meet on Thursday, so Friday looks like t-shirt day!

Although I have all of my magnets made, I still have not made our t-shirts. I hope to find time this weekend.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone, first at the Radisson meet and then the Dis meet before the muster drill!

I absolutely agree with you on this. Thank you Rob for serving our country, and also a thank you to all of the military men and women who have served and are still serving.

We will book a dummy date. Probably an early June 2012 Alaska for DH and I. We are considering taking a kids-free cruise for our 15th anniversary and we are thinking Alaska. We can lock in a rate with Disney and move it to a 2013+ cruise date if we decide to go with another cruise line or do something else for our anniversary.

Run run, rush rush!! The finish line is quickly approaching and I better hurry up or I'll miss it! LOL I am the worlds biggest and worst procrastinator! I have my list on the counter of what needs done this week...a few phone calls, Connor needs a physical for football etc. Some how, some way, I always get it done!!

Thanks for the heads up on purchasing booze on board. I'll call her and tell her to BYOB.

Not sure what we are going to do about rebooking? On one hand, I can't imagine taking a cruise and NOT rebooking, but I have also priced out some future dates and just about had heart failure!! They have really gone crazy with pricing!! Maybe it's time to look at Carnival more closely.

As for shorts...I dunno...we have worn shorts before as well. I think, as long as they are nice, resort, golf type, why not? a few pair I bought this week are longer, Bermuda shorts...they come to my knee, I also have a couple pair of capris that come below...I'm going with those. I think as long as it's dressed up, you're fine.

I feel like I have hit a brick wall tonight...don't know why...really didn't do a lot today....I guess I better get a good night's sleep so I can accomplish more tomorrow!

No rebooking for us right now. We will probably wait till DD graduates and take a cruise or something. After the summer, it'll be time to start planning/preparing/raising money for the next mission trip to Mexico. We went to Peru this time last year. Matter of fact we were there ON my DD's birthday, and now we'll be on the DCL ON her birthday. I constantly tell her how lucky she is!! The only vacations I got when I was young was our yearly trip to Six Flags!!!

Little did I know what I was really missing!!!
My first WDW trip was when I was 31 (2006).

I've got FE's done. I worked on magnets last night till after 12am.

Did a little shopping today, with the Memorial Day sales.

So this week will be very busy, trying to prepare for DD's "early" 16th party with family & friends before we leave!

Our plan is to have the party at 7pm-9pm next wednesday, then get on the road to Columbia, SC to get on the Amtrak. As far as the Amtrak, there are a few stations closer to us, but they all went to Washington, DC, then change trains back to Orlando!. That's crazy!

Today wasn't as productive as I had hoped. I only got the cruise shirts done. None of our shirts for the parks. We had to run out to do more last minute shopping. At least I got some laundry done. Plus, I downloaded the Verizon Disney Mobile App. I tried to download the blackberry undercover tourist app, but its not working.
I'm getting nervous. So much to do, so little time. Work keeps getting in the way. Time to do a little research. I don't remember the rules for rebooking on line. Don't you get some type of discount? Does that discount apply if you need to change the date?

Just home from the lake for Memorial Day Weekend. I would have rather not gone since I have SO MUCH to do before we leave for our cruise, but that is just not the way it works in my husband's family haha.

I spent Sat and Sun in some absolutely wonderful weather NOT!!! Rain, storms, tornados etc. I could have gotten so much more done at my house than there but i did make some serious progress on our FE gifts. Still need to, finish them this week and makes the actual FE but I refuse to panic until next weekend. We did have nice weather today and both girls and my husband got quite a bit of sun. My idea of relaxing was chilling in my chair in the shade and breeze and enjoying my book so for once I am not sporting that fun pink color.....

Michelle, I feel your Droid pain. I am on my second on and the only reason it isn't at least the 3rd is because my husband took it over to the store the couple times we have tried to dump this one and they convinced him it was me not them. Gee force closing all the time, I have to turn it on and off at least one if not more per day, text messages lock up all the time, phone sending random old texts again, never holds my stored speed dials, looses my calendar details. Yeah sounds like it isn't the phone problem. The Verizon store is definitely on my list of to-do's this week.

I am 98% done with our shopping. A few minor things to gather and then the actual packing can begin next week. I have already told the girls that all cruise clothes are off limits after next weekend. One daughter has to wear uniforms to school so she is no problem and the other can gladly live in sweats and tees for school for 5 days.

Our school system actually is in session the Monday of our cruise after having 7 make up days for snow this winter. The high school has not been real cooperative but I think we are set with all her teachers and finals. Middle school is no big deal that is a play day anyway, she will just miss the end of the year carnival. Lets see bouncy Titantic slide or Aqua Duck - yeah hard choice.

We will be leaving to drive to Indy on the 10th and then flying out on Sat am spending the night before and after at Saratoga. My parents (Grandpawelch8) are DVC members and got us rooms on their points. This is a resort I have never stayed at so this is very exciting.

It is hard to believe that we only have to wake up 11 more times before we start this vacation that was booked in Nov 2009.

My understanding is that anything that is bought on the cruise will be held for you until the end of the cruise. So, no, you can not drink what you buy on the cruise unless it is the wine that they uncork and pour for you. I'm planning to bring on wine.

Yes and No...if you buy something from Disney in it's liquor shop then they don't deliver it to you until the end of the cruise so you can't partake of it...but if you buy a bottle on Nassau you can enjoy it while on the cruise (unlike some lines that confiscate it when you re-board and deliver it at the end), but you either have to finish it or leave it behind because of customs and the opened goods things they talk about (same with the rum cakes...if you break the seal you gotta eat before you get off)...I think your right on with the wine

I hope to rebook on board, but will move it to 2013 or beyond; according to when we have another child. I agree about the pricing...nuts! But, we went on two Carnival cruises at one time: our first one and our last one . I don't think we'll do them again...we may try Royal Caribbean. So far we plan to do WDW in 2012, if not Thanksgiving 2011.

My wife and I did our first cruise ever as a Disney cruise for our honey moon too! You will have an awesome honeymoon. Make sure you check out serenity bay on castaway cay. That was nice for us!
