Kristin... i just booked this cruise (it's our 2nd time on the Dream) I'm assuming it's it too late to join, but can you let me know for sure? We did FE the first time and it was so fun! (we're a family of 5 and in room 7596) Thanks! -Melissa

I've heard FE programs usually close at the 4-week mark, so that participants can order their FE from Etsy or the surprises on-line. Since we are about 3 weeks until the cruise (yeehaw!:dogdance:), should we make a contingency plan on organizing the FE if for some reason we haven't heard anything from the original organizer by this Saturday? Anyone with experience in a FE swap willing to take the lead if necessary and maybe guide the rest of us on how it's done? If no one comes forward, I am glad to try to bumble our way through it as a novice and organize. Just don't want to let it die since past participants report it's one of their most magical memories pixiedust:

Are you still doing this or is someone else is? Jessica

Are you still doing this or is someone else is? Jessica

does any one know if we are still doing this?
I'm going to hazard a guess, since Kristin Scheurer hasn't been on the boards since last September, and only had 3 posts at that time, that she didn't follow through with setting up the FE exchange. At least here on DISboards. There are FE groups on other social media, but they are NOT DISboards Fish Extender groups.

If you want to have one, you may have to do a quick set up for yourself.

Hello Kristin I'm Tania (47) female interested in fish extender exchange my 16 year old's first Disney Sailing Savi - Female
Does anyone know if we are doing this? I am kind of confused on this. I have not heard from anyone. Please let me know thank you

How do I do that?

I found the article in the link above to be informative on how the Fish Extenders work.

If you want to organize it, Jessica, I'm willing to help. I was just giving the original organizer a chance to come back before moving on to post a question tomorrow asking again who wants to participate and try to get all the vital info in one thread (i.e., cabin numbers seem crucial and some people didn't have them or just didn't list them on their posts, so we may have to do a quick recount to see if we still have enough interest to make a group). Hopefully, there are people out there that clicked the option in the settings to watch this thread and will reply with interest!

Setting up FE group

There's really no "rules" as to how a FE program runs. Basically someone maintains the list of those who wish to participate. The group can decide on what information is necessary to produce FE gifts. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/favorite character/favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

At some point the list will "close". Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will either post the list (usually via a conversation is best, as that's more private), or directly on the Cruise Meet thread, to confirm everyone on it is still participating. It’s important to make a statement about "anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped" at this time. A little harsh, yes, but often there are people who will post on the cruise meet thread as soon as the reserve the cruise and say “I want to participate”, and are never heard from again.

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a "pixie dust" list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their "final" list. Be sure the "pixie dust" list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others.

The other "biggie" is no other social media sites are allowed to be linked or search directions posted as to how find that other site here on DISboards.

Thank you very much for the wonderfully thorough guidance for us!
Quick question - How does one start a conversation on this site?

:flower1:Fish Extender Group Sign-Up:flower1:

Because we are getting close to the cruise and it doesn't appear there is an active FE group yet, I propose we try to start a group now. I've never participated in FE before, but with the good insight in Princess Shmoo's post above, perhaps we can give it a go. All suggestions are welcome on how to make this easy and magical for the group!!!

From what I've read online about FE groups, it seems the frequency and amount of gift giving is left up to the preferences of each gift giver. You can bring a gift for everyone listed in every participating cabin for every day of the cruise, or, at the very least, you would bring one thing for every participating cabin and deliver it at some point during the cruise. On a short 3-day cruise, people seem to lean toward bringing little gifts for each participating cabin (or each person in each cabin) for all three days of the cruise and deliver them at their convenience once per day. It also sounds like participants can choose to either give anonymously or attach gift tags indicating which cabin or family gave the gifts. Btw - There are lots of ideas for Fish Extender gifts on the Internet.

I suggest we let each participant give as much or as little info to the group as they choose. At the very least, it seems we would need the following info for each participant: first names, ages (at least of children), and cabin numbers. If you hope for surprises to perhaps be a bit more personalized (no guarantees, of course), feel free to tell the group more details about your family members' preferences (like favorite Disney characters, how you collect rubber ducks, how you're a chocoholic, how you are allergic to all things purple, etc. - just anything that helps guide gift givers).

Here is a basic form you can complete and post in a reply to this thread to become an official participant in the 2/19/16 Disney Dream FE Group. To give everyone a chance to prepare gifts, let's make the final deadline for receiving the forms this Friday, February 5th. If you already gave all of this info and indicated you wanted to participate earlier in the thread, please do it once in a reply to this message.

You must have 10 posts to start a conversation. You (and anyone else who needs to up their post count) can head over to the Test Board to do this: http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/

Once you've gotten 10 posts, it takes the system a little time to recognize it (30-60 minutes). Once it does, you can start a conversation by clicking on either the avatar or the username of the person who you wish to converse with, and clicking on "Start a conversation" in the little window that opens. You can also hover over "Inbox" in the upper right and click on "Start a new conversation" there. Conversations can be held with up to 20 people at a time. It's a great way to exchange more private information, as well as FE lists, away from the general board.

This will be our first Disney Cruise, and first cruise for me and my daughter. My wife, and mother in law both have been on a cruise. We are most definitely interested in the fish extender. I am Wes 37yo, my wife Paula 32, and daughter Emma 6. We are celebrating her 6th birthday on this cruise.

Glad to see there is interest in a Fish Extender Exchange! As a courtesy to fellow Fish Extender participants, please update your replies with state room numbers ASAP to make your participation official! (As pointed out in a prior posting, sometimes people express interest, causing others to begin preparing gifts, and then fail to report back with a state room number and the gift givers are left with gifts that are undeliverable.) Thank you!!!
