I'm looking at the different room options available, and I came across category 8A-split layout on the Disney Dream. From what I can gather it has 2 portholes, and may have a wall or pole dividing the room. There doesn't seem to be as much info on these rooms as some of the others, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me:

-what rooms on the Dream have the pole & which have a wall?
-for anyone who has stayed in this room type, what did you like/dislike about it?
-is it a split bath? If so, are they side by side, or across the room?
-is there anything else that I should know about this type of room?

There will be 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) on this cruise.

Thanks for your help. There are so many room categories it is a bit confusing.

To answer your questions:

1) This thread has great information about which is which:

2) In terms of what I liked/disliked, these rooms are absolutely wonderful! I always want to stay in them. Super spacious for a cruise room, two giant windows--they are just great. There wasn't really anything I disliked. I mean, I guess it would have been nice to have a split bath, but with just the three of us, it wasn't really necessary.

3) None of them have a split bath.

4) These book up fast because there aren't that many of them. Book early!

Thank you so much! I'm going to start reading that thread right now :)

A great webpage with info about one of the 8A rooms, including *excellent* photos: http://www.thephotographerswife.com/disney-dream-stateroom-5522-category-8a/ . Our room layout was slightly different (flipped, plus the sofa was along the halfwall and dresser along the long wall, which also meant a longer dresser) but the basic elements are there.

I cruise with my sister, who refuses to share a bed with me (this is perhaps a good thing: she tosses and turns at night while I stay pretty much still). So I get the "real" bed and she gets the "other" bed: sofa bed, murphy bed.

Our first two cruises (Dream, Fantasy) were in 8A's on deck 5. Our room had the half-wall separating the "bed" and "living" area.

We loved the location. we loved the amount of **space**. Enjoyed the two large seating portholes. We really really liked having our own "sides" with our own TVs.

We were fine with no split bathroom. The room only slept 3, but since we were two that was fine.

However, my sister did not like the sofa bed: she found it uncomfortable for sleeping, and the edge of it was downright painful when sitting unless you sat in just the right position. We tried putting a blanket over the side to add some padding, but it was not enough.

for our recent B2B on the Dream we decided to try an 8B (deluxe family oceanview stateroom, with a large porthole) on deck 9. great location. we liked the split bathroom, especially the shower :-) We did miss the functional space of the 8A, but there was enough space in the 8B.

The room had a murphy bed and that is what my sister slept on. She really liked it: comfortable for sleeping and sitting. After it was put down the first time by our cabin steward, we just had him leave it down the entire cruise, which worked very well, especially for mid-day naps.

So, for future cruises we have decided we need a room with a murphy bed unless there are two "real" beds. Severely limits our choices of cabin, unfortunately.
